Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

Күн бұрын

This fire truck was bought in a job lot on Ebay. No ladder and heavily painted by the previous owner I knew I could make this near new again. I just had to spend some time and money on it to make it happen. Little did I know that it would consume almost a whole day of my life! - I hope that it was worth it. The finished model viewed under the microscopic Samsung S8 camera reveals every flaw no matter how small! But rest assured, if you were to look at it on the shelf at a swap meet you would believe that it was in mint condition! - It will now be placed into my restoration display cabinet with all of my other 40 plus restorations.

Just a great job, bringing these fine old toys back....I am 62 and I still have the majority of my die cast toys from childhood... most are actually in pretty good shape, many were really played with, but never abused..

Brings back memories. My father was a fireman so I of course had multiples of any matchbox fire related model (I even had the firehouse). On top of that, an uncle who collected Matchbox vehicles died when I was about 3 or 4, so I picked up a whole new batch to play with when I was at my Grandmother's house.

Brilliant Marty, just brilliant. Since finding your videos a couple of days ago I’ve regained the enthusiasm to dive into that “fix it” box of discarded toys. I loved these as a child and remember rushing to the local papershop with my pocket money to collect the next one in the series. I love the technique for fixing the missing window pillars, something that has prevented me from fixing a lot of broken toys....not anymore. Plus, I love your method of creating new axles. THANK YOU.

The four circles at the top rear represent the hard suction hoses which join together so the pump can draw water from a river or open source. They connect to the middle of the five lower circles, that being the pump suction, the four smaller circles either side are the pump discharges. Great restoration BTW! Keep up the good work!

Another great video, Marty. I certainly had one of these fire engines back in the 1960s - in fact, I think I may still have it in my attic somewhere with dozens of other vintage cars from that era, including the BP vehicles you have restored! Great to see you bring them back from the grave and remind me what they looked like when new . Fascinating to watch you work - I really admire your skill and tenacity.

Come on Marty, will you stop it? I’ve got other things to do but I just keep watching your videos. Mate I think you have everything a video needs. Excellent camera work, nice clear commentary, good explanation of what you are doing and no bullshite. Aldi recently had an oversized electric toothbrush unit for cleaning bathrooms? I find it excellent for getting into tight spots when I’m restoring tools and Tonka’s. I think it says a lot about your quality of work that you seem to have a lot of viewers that are not into Matchbox yet love your videos. Well done. Cheers again Stuart 🇦🇺

I don't know why I find these all so soothing. But I do! The starboard horizontal detail on the cab roof is the siren, the other side vertical detail is of course, the rotating beacon. A modeling tip I can pass along is for the mating of the "split pin" new window framing. Here in America, there's varieties of stuff called Evercoat putties and glazes-- all made for fiberglass or metal repairs and such -- in automobiles and boats, etc. The tough stuff is Evercoat Metalglaze. I have no idea what it might be called down under-- but I guarantee there's something just like it. it's not exactly cheap, but as it is a two part system, I recommend keeping the two parts separate when storing. It cures very quickly -- so quickly, I recommend not believing the product statements as to "working time" and rush like hell -- but it sands and feathers out beautifully. I believe it is much stronger than the modeling putty you use. I don't know if you've ever had a putty joint fail in those positions, but this will add greater strength and security. Also, it can be sculpted, sanded and drilled and tapped (just in case!). Another borrowed from the automobile body-repair industry, is the use of fine vinyl masking tape. So thin and flexible, it goes around very curvy shapes. This may help keep the hand-painted line sharp around details like the front grill here. Hope these help.

You don’t give yourself enough credit. I like it. U did a great job. I built a Tamiya 1/14 scale semi and every one I learn something new. But my favorite is the first one I built and I play with it the most. It always gets the best parts and electronics. But I own 4 but I like it the best. I’m sure u will feel the same after awhile.
