Dreesen was kind of a gamble to have as a panelist, as he was more known to people on the big city circuits, Vegas, New York, Chicago, etc. He was one of the comics that Frank Sinatra kept in his rotation when he toured. But, to Mr. & Mrs. general TV audience, he may have been unknown.

Gene had a lapse there for a minute.

Interview with Gene I watched today, he said they filmed 15 episodes over a weekend every 2 weeks because he lived out of state. Imagine arriving with all of the outfit changes each day per celebrity. It's not ALWAYS a wardrobe provided. For Gene, perhaps though.

When the celebrities are being shown at the opening of the show, all year long, Richard has had his head turned away with his face hidden from the camera. They used to call this "Short Timer Syndrome".

I thought he was extremely rude doing that. 🤨

I figured it was because they wouldn't add that he was from Family Feud.

I thought it was just his choice for the intro. He used to write a card almost every time. I like the pinky wave he does every so often and his head on the desk made me bust out laughing.

Bad outfit for Gene. He’s been smoking those funny cigarettes again and acting goofy around the young ladies.

H/H match update: ... ~~~Trivia: I was watching "Airplane!" (1980) again recently, and of course Joyce is in that film, but I got to thinking that maybe it's the single film with the most MG alumni of all time. Along with Joyce Bulifant, we've got Leslie Nielsen, Barbara Stuart, Ethel Merman, and Jimmie Walker. Can anyone think of a film where more than 5 Match Game panelists appear? ~~~Today's action: Our champ was two "Drills" short of achieving a tie. He departs after winning two games and $6,200. *Today's audience match question: "________Bust"* (My thoughts: Boom or, California or, Drug) The celebs: Richard (Hollywood or), Brett (Big), Charles (California or) The choice: California or The answers: Pikes Peak or, Big, California or - Kudos to Charles for coming up with the top answer in third position! Our new champion starts off with a $500 Audience Match win. She somehow managed to resist taking Richard's suggestion (and wisely so). Will she manage to resist choosing him for the head-to-head? If I had to bet, I'd wager she picks him anyway... She does. This is now King Richard's 64th consecutive H/H attempt. (No other celeb has played a head-to-head question since Fannie in 1132.) Stats: Richard has matched 153 of his 353 most recent attempts (43.3%), 92 of his last 213 attempts (43.2%), 45 of his past 105 attempts (42.9%), 31 of his past 78 attempts (39.7%), and 14 of his past 36 attempts (38.9%). His overall success rate is *42.3%* and this is his 831st attempt so far. For the sake of comparison: Joyce has matched 3 of her 4 attempts (75.0%), Charles has matched 34 of his 70 attempts (48.6%), Richard has matched 351 of his 830 attempts (42.3%), and Brett has matched 30 of her 71 attempts (42.3%). Neither Debralee Scott nor Tom Dreeson has yet answered a H/H question. *Today's H/H question: "________Spirit"* (Holy Spirit? Evil spirit? I think Holy Ghost sounds more common than Holy Spirit, so I'll go with Evil Spirit. It feels like I'm missing something, though... Oh, how about "Free Spirit"? That sounds very hippie-era. But I'll stick with evil.) The camera cuts to Richard as he finishes writing his answer. He meditates on it for two or three seconds and slips it in the slot. He has an air of confidence today, as if he's only thought of one good answer instead of being torn between two. The new champion says "Ghost spirit." This is another occasion where I think they're confusing Password with Match Game. She's unlikely to match Richard today. The audience agrees. Well, it hardly matters what the champion said. Richard wrote "Blithe" which I think is a long-shot answer. ("Blithe Spirit" is a 1941 comic play by Noël Coward that was adapted into a film released in 1945. The play was revived in London for a run in 1970-71.) No H/H match today. (And once again, Richard drops below Brett on the leader board.) ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts). Charles - 48.6% (34 wins in 70 attempts). Fannie - 48.5% (16 wins in 33 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 42.3% (30 wins in 71 attempts). (42.2535%) Richard - 42.2% (351 wins in 831 attempts). (42.2382%) Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1192, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)
