Today we check out Matco's latest cordless stubby impact the MCL1614SIW, it's rated for a lot of beans so we put it up against is closest in size competition, the M12 2554-20 Milwaukee 3/8" impact wrench.
Torque of TTC is working in product development for Astro Tools who also make impact wrenches (air). TTC is not the only testing out there, always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

Every week, often before the video comes out, we update rankings found here: etsy.me/3G8j3QK Both the impacts shown today are super versatile useful tools. This size range opens a lot of doors on stuff you might have done by hand before. When one of these is in a roll cart next to where you're working, they get a lot of spill over usage you might not normally reach for an impacts to do! Torque, who started TTC, is working in product development for Astro Tools (who also make impacts, but not cordless). Always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

Agree, but when I comment to this reply I can't just mention project farm. These 2 are basically the best tool testing channels that I know of. TTC is great, kudo's to them. Project farm is a bit more variable in his testing, and by God I love the way he tests tools.

@@BinneReitsma I actually haven't seen any Project Farm videos until 2 minutes ago after I read you reply. Definitely good information to be had over on that channel but I work as mechanic by trade and TTC videos are more focused on tools I use every day. Also, I find this testing to be more scientific in nature. I know TTC wouldn't agree with me using the word scientific but it's a more standardized method of testing if that makes sense. Either way, I will be checking out some more Project Farm videos so thanks for bringing that up!

These little 3/8 guns are all impressive and capable of doing jobs they are not designed for. I think it really comes down to what platform someone uses, their power tool needs and their budget. The main thing the Milwaukee and Dewalt have going for them is a very diverse list of power tools that use the same battery.

Great video idea: Hey so I've been binge watching your channel for a week or so now since I've been needing a new cordless impact (decided on the 2962-20) and I saw how you tested the IR impact socket that increases torque and the video showing how the impacts actually work and it got me thinking: What if you used a Tungsten anvil or Tungsten part that strikes the anvil? It's more mass (or so I think) so I'm thinking it would have to improve the torque specs. Granted I would assume there's a reason that people aren't already doing that but I can't see why not

@@TorqueTestChannel Hmmm... Maybe an alloy would work? I should've remembered it was brittle but there's gotta be an alloy of it that would at least be strong enough considering Tungsten carbide at least is used in some saw blades and drill bits and I think even some rock/hammer drill bits so it would have to handle some kind of impact. But then the question is the cost of it and if the weight of the alloy would be enough to have a negligible effect.

Battery Question... A while back I bought the Milwaukee M12 3/8 stubby (2554-20) in this video. I have only used the small 1.5AH batteries on it. It is rated and SUPPOSED to deliver 250Ft lbs. but I don't think it comes anywhere near it. So I was gonna add something bigger to my collection, was researching, but then saw this video and figured out that I MAY simply need to run a bigger AH battery on the stubby to get max Ft lbs. out of it. I THINK I know the answer to this, but don't want to assume I do. So asking, will it deliver more Ft Lbs. with a 6AH battery???
@jasonmcdonald7487

Absolutely !! You get full power starting at the 4.0 battery and extended run time with the 6.0 battery. I did the same thing. Then I bought the 4.0 battery and never looked back. Trust !!

Hey bud I love your testing! But as a scientist I would like to make a suggestion to calculate how much work each tool is doing. 1. Take area under the curve for each tool 2. Subtract the AUC for each tool! This will give you the actual work done per second by each tool. The AUC is quite different for the tools. 3. This will tell us that besides looking at peak power some tools will lose bolts quicker!
@TorqueTestChannel
@TorqueTestChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I know we're not scientists, but area under the curve for a non function (like not just F of X) custom data set is pretty dang tricky. Can't just plug it into something, appears to be requiring a model/software. We have the average power ranking now that follows this main rank chart and is average torque per second that balances this pretty well though. And is more relatable because it's in ft-lbs and not an area measurement that would be hard for the average person to normalize to any personal experience.

@TorqueTestChannel

@@harisjaved1379 Yes, over 2,000 test rows of data spit out into excel. But the median runs you see here are about 650 of that, can be extracted from excel/spreadsheet into the software we use to make the graphs. The interval is always taken at 1 second, so using our graph/curve wouldn't be that important as long as you have the raw data/per second import + some smoothing I guess.
