I honestly started liking Briar when they started focusing on her story more and explaining why she’s a party animal and why she falls asleep. Her concern about her destiny and all it was well done and as always Apple wasn’t understanding friend but selfish.

The thing is that it's UNDERSTANDABLE, like I despise the way she acts for the first few episodes, but I totally understand why she acts the way she does. She simply doesn't want anyone to disappear or be in danger, which is what the students have been groomed to think ever since they were born if they didn't sign the book.

I agree. I dare say, EAH had the potential to be as good as MLP: FIM. But, there’s always the chance of a reboot. I’d hope Mattel would bring in some of the original writing team for a reboot of it happened though.

For a bit of context on C.A. Cupid, she doesn't actually just make people have feelings, she works with the feelings that are already there. She was a monster high character long before EAH, and her role was as like a counselor for love radio host that students would call anonymously to talk about their feelings, as seen in the valentine's movie "why do ghouls fall in love" She's also the center of a lot of fan theories because the canon juat can't figure out what the hell she is

I think the best way to understand Apple White is that she’s like a kid in a perpetual game of pretend. She loves all her friends, but a friend has to play the role of the bad guy in order for the game to work, and when the game it over everyone will still be friends and everything will be great. It's not right, but it's what she's been raised to believe. Also, Briar does canonically har narcolepsy, something she doesn't have a lot of control over. It's better explored in some of the books. And finally, as a bonus, Maddie's riddlish isn't just random, it's a string of metaphors. "If the squirrel eats an acorn but never a steak" means if you only try what your meant to do, and not even taste the opposite, then "how much water fills up the lake" means how many people will you really reach? All, or just half? I love how clever all these little rhymes actually are.

i fully agree!! people seem to forget apple is also just a 15 yr old, which doesnt excuse her selfishness, but it shows shes still just a kid whos scared of her uncertain future. she truly does love and care for everyone, including raven (which is made more clear in later specials), this way of life is just All shes known and has been raised to believe, and truly thinks its the only way everyone can be "happy". also love that interpretation of riddlish!!

@@cheese3123Plus she had a near death experience since when she was a kid she fell in a well and almost drown so knowing that she gets a happy ending in her story that she’s alive is very important to her and without that she is scared of the unknown since she knows she wouldn’t be safe anymore

Briar essentially has a form of narcolepsy (or at least that's how it's described in the books) that she got genetically due to her destiny. She also has superhearing while she's asleep.

Some context for Cupid: -shes originally from monster high. In canon, she's called the daughter of Eros, but no one actually knows what she is -she uses her powers as more of nudge in the right direction (like Ashlynn Ella and Hunter were already dating, Cupid just got Hunter to pay attention to Ashlynn). Her arrows can have creepy effects if used wrong or are used by anyone other than her, but she herself tends to be very responsible with how they're used -She's classified as one of the rebels, so her match making is considered in defiance of destiny.

Well, in the original myth, Eros married Psyche, who kind of ascended as a godess post-mortem. So she should be a godess. Excetp that I think that she is an adopted daughter, which might make her a cherub-like creature. Her power over love kind of remind me to how A Midsumer Night's Dream had fairy magic that made people fall in love, so it wouldn't be surprising if she was a dove-like fae. In fact, I found out that the play actually happens in Greece, which is super fitting! I think it is extremely fitting that she is a rebel because Eros was the embodiment of passion, and was considerated a monster feared by gods themselves, because passion was this thing that defied destiny and led to madness and all those things.

Just to clarify, as I don't know if you got it. The student body is roughly divided in Royals and Rebels, but that has nothing to do if they are royalty or not, but where each student is when it comes to their story. Royals are the students who want to follow their destiny and believe everyone should also follow theirs. Rebels, on the other hand, want to decide their destiny and/or believe everyone can decide it. For example, in the Rebels, we have characters like Raven, who don't want to follow their stories, but then we have Maddie who wants to follow her story, but actively support those who don't.

These aren't based on the Disney versions. They are based on the original tales. The snow white here is the one by The Brothers Grimm.

⁠⁠@@NaishiYTare you American? Cause at least in Europe, these stories aren’t popular cause Disney retold them. Disney retold them, because they were popular. You can only really credit Disney with carrying these stories to a new medium, but given the high amount of Cinderella films/Cinderella inspired films, it would clearly have happened anyway. Even the brothers Grimm version is in kind of the same ballpark, because they didn’t write the stories, they just wrote them down. These stories, and many like them, have been flowing around European cultures for many years, with many different versions. Plenty of which are still told to children to this day. (Like one where Cinderella has a magic cow instead of a fairy god mother) Disney didn’t make these stories popular. Disney made themselves popular by adapting these well known and recognizable stories.

I don’t think you can really tie a real life company, that is completely unrelated to EAH, into the lore. I think it was done for two reasons: 1) the in universe explanation probably is that her stories call her “the fairest one of all.” In this universe, that includes all the other stories too. There may be other royals, but none of them are as fair as Snow White, so she is the queen. 2) from a writing perspective, it makes the conflict a bit more high stakes from a royal perspective. If Briar or Ashley didn’t follow their destiny it would suck, but the consequences wouldn’t really effect others. apple is destined to be the future queen of this land. she is the royal above all royals. If she can’t follow her destiny and goes puff, that will effect EVERYONE. Cause who is going to rule the kingdom now? It also helps with the hole “royal vs rival” since raven is the first one to openly question her destiny, she ends up leading the more rebellious students. Apple is peak royal, and everyone loves her, so she is more a leader for the destiny loving students. It perfectly shows just how different they are. (I don’t know if I made my point properly. May edit a few things if I have time later.)

@@NaishiYT I am still struggling to see that point. Disney has nothing to do with EAH, except they played a part in getting it canceled. In a real world setting, Snow White being the first Disney princess wouldn’t necessarily make her more popular. I mean, everyone has seen just how popular frozen is. And even before that came out, Snow White wasn’t more popular just cause she was the first. If we talk in the EAH universe. That would mean Disney is a thing there, and the characters care about Disney and who gets a movie. But that also doesn’t really make sense. Cause Disney has made many movies that aren’t appearing in the series. Like Hercules and Pocahontas. So how would the EAH characters care about it. Not to mention Disney changes plenty of these stories any way they want. Like having aurora only sleep for a few days instead of 100 years. In this universe, where following your exact destiny is so important, wouldn’t people like master grim be having a problem with that? And if it isn’t specifically Disney, but just about having a movie adaptation, Cinderella should be queen, cause she has endless amounts of movie adaptations, from many different countries. Or Robin Hood should be king, cause that guys first movie came out 1908, and he had many more in just the 1910’s alone. Not to mention all the ones he got since. I’m sorry, I just don’t see why Disney would have any effect on this universe. That company has nothing to do with the production of EAH. They just use the same source material for their stories. That connection is so meaningless Disney even made their own “kids of fairytale stories” franchise. With the movie “Decendants” and all it’s sequels. Again, I just don’t see the connection.

I just don’t think, matel also having a toy line with Disney would effect the show in such a specific way, and then barely effect it in any other.(we’re talking about Disney, and the remakes proves just how much they love shoving their classics down our face. If they had any actual influence, EAH would look very different.) Especially with so many better potential explanations. Her own fairytale describes her as “the fairest of them all.” In this universe, that also includes everyone from every other fairytale, so that could be why she is so popular. Or (from a writing perspective) you would probably pick a fairytale for raven where she is a lot more active, and has a much more unhappy ending. they picked that one, cause the evil queen is just a lot more present then most fairytale bad guys. Especially in the princess category. Most of them just set up the conflict through cursing someone, and then leave the story completely. The few who don’t, usually don’t have magic to begin with. Making raven magic is crucial. But she also needs to actively do evil stuff, and then have a terrible ending for her story to work. Sleeping beauty is one of few well known stories that has that. And when raven needs to be the daughter of the evil queen, you don’t really have a choice but to make apple Snow White. It’s also a bit of a stronger conflict if ravens antagonist is the girl who gets the best ending out of everyone. If apple wasn’t the most popular girl, with the best ending, their conflict would be weaker from apples perspective. But if they went with a different fairytale, that is still popular enough for kids to easily recognize, it would weaken raven. Either cause she doesn’t have evil magic, she isn’t as actively evil, or her bad ending is less certain. ( for example: The evil fairy in sleeping beauty just cursed the princess and then went on her merry way.)But maybe we just won’t understand each other. It happens. Have a good day.

17:28 That's actually a loophole as in the original snow white story, the evil queen married a Good King. So Dexter could pursue Raven if he really wanted to without too much push back from others. Meaning Headmaster Grim would probably fully encourage it since in his eyes Raven would be following her fairytale destiny if she got together with Dexter.

It's not really explained in the show, but in the books all the characters inherit traits or magic linked to their fairytale. So Briar tends to fall asleep randomly, Raven has evil magic powers, Blondie tends to randomly open locks, etc.

All the princesses and many of the commoners have magic; Raven's is her magic I think, Maddy's is unclear, Hunter's is that when he makes a 'Huntsman to the Rescue' pose, his shirt tears and trumpets play (yes, that's canon), Ashlyn can talk to animals but her clothes turn to rags if she's late, Darling, if she flips her hair, can slow time for everyone but her, the Pied Piper's daughter can force people to dance who hear her music, Cedar has a wooden body but can't lie/will blurt out the truth compulsively, Ginger has food magic, etc.

This only occurs in the books (hence why I'm mentioning it because Apple is a more 3D character in the books) but Apple actually struggles with insecurity and was looked down upon as a child because she has blond hair not hair as dark as a ravens wing. She therefore ended up overcompensating into this perfect princess and yes narcissistic and selfish person to try and make sure that people do not doubt her ability to lead or actually be a good princess again.

It’s awesome to see you reacting to the web episodes. As short as they are, they do introduce the characters and give us time to get to know them all. Seeing your turn around on Maddie is awesome. Think everyone agrees that her, along with most of the wonderland characters, are always fan favorites. Maddie ain’t on either side of the Royals/Rebels debate. She’s just happy to be on Raven’s side. While she’s excited to follow her dad’s footsteps, she also wants Raven to be happy. Oh you blessed soul. You have nothing to compare Cupid to. She was a character introduced to the Monster High series a good while before EAH was revealed, helping the Mh students find love. It’s explained in her doll diaries that she was adopted by Eros and is constantly looking for her origins. She’s the link between the worlds. However it’s also explained that her reasoning for coming to EAH is part her search for her origin, and also because she saw a photo of Dexter Charming and became enamores. Cupid on her own is awesome. She notices the love and crushes in others and helps them gain the confidence to pursue it. She’s a Rebel not out of a distaste for her destiny, but because she desires for people to follow their own true love. Excited to see you continue watching this series. It’s fun seeing you dislike Apple and Daring. They’re such divisive characters but they’re so hard to root for in the beginning.

Also: Don't be to hard on yourself if you end up feeling more warm to Apple as the series goes on, or if your feelings towards her evolve. As the characters gain more depth and learn and grow, you might find you like who they are later on. They're in high school- they're not finished growing as people. Edit: Rumplestiltskin's fairytale is that he spun straw into gold as a favor to a woman, and then later on he demanded her first born as payment unless she could guess his name. When she gets it right, he gets so angry that he tears himself in half. I'm not even joking.

Honestly Apple was GREAT for the short duration in which she was a villain. And it always seemed like Snow White and Evil Queens children were switched. The evil Queen had platinum curly blond hair like Apple. I always thought it would have been a nice twist. And would explain A LOT of things about them.

@@blueboy2976 Who Said magic is something one inherits. She could have obtainted It through other Means. Or even THAT be the reasons some side force behind did It. Because Raven had magic while Apple did not. So they made EVERYONE think Apple is Snow Whites daughter while Raven was Evil Queen. Which would prompt EVERYONE to free themselves from the book and those forces behind them.

Literally the Evil Queen is super smart and one of the most intelligent characters from this show. She would know for sure that Raven is not her daughter . And Raven powers works kinda like Evil Queen powers (that would be really too weird that Snow white daughter had powers just like enemy of her mother ) I dont buy it sorry

I will be an Apple White defender forever. I love her so much. I understand somehow maybe annoyed by her, but ever since I was a kid I loved her. Now that I'm older I realized why I love her so much, I saw so much of myself in her, we both grew with a toxic idealogies and fully believed in them for the longest time. I did thoroughly dislike Apple at first. I didn't realize just how blind she initially was to her own privilege at being all set with a Happily Ever After when so many others were being pretty much frogmarched to the guillotine all while being expected to be happy about it. For the longest time Apple simply cannot understand how those people might actually feel about their grisly fates, about the fact that they are denied the right to live a happy life pretty much at birth, all so that people like her can obtain everlasting happiness. It's sordid and twisted and all boils down to the fact that Apple is terrified of the unexpected.

The Apple hate in this video in unjustified. Never thought I'd be the person to scream "Read the books!" but here I am. Apple is the same person in the series and in the books, we just get to see more of her internal thoughts in the books that would help people understand that she's not a bad person...at all. She wants Raven to be evil, but that doesn't contradict her being Raven's friend. Apple wants them to fulfill destiny together and still be friends after. She's *definitely* misguided, but not a terrible thoughtless person.

She just isn't willing to give up her freedom so that Apple gets her destiny. Remember there was an episode where Raven tried finding someone who would fill the role of Evil Queen.

I think you misunderstood the concept of Royals and Rebels in EAH (at least from what I remember in the series). Royals are everyone who wants to follow their destiny and Rebels are those who want to defy it

Okay so the show kind of fucked up their own definition. That is what is supposed to be but not what they did in practice. For example, Blondie has lines about trying to convince others she's a royal due to her family being somehow linked to princesses. Plus, characters like Cedar, Cerise, Maddie and some other are called rebels even though they WANT to follow their destiny (or dont care). Meanwhile, Briar is considered a Royal even if she hates her destiny and doesn't want it. And some villains who are shown to want to continue being villains (i forgot the name of Malleficents daughter) and shes a rebel. In the end, while its described as you said, it's made in a different way

SPOILER WARNING It was originally more about how the characters believed others should approach destiny, rather than how they felt about their own. Royals believe EVERYONE should follow destiny regardless of personal feelings bc it's for the greater good to keep stories going. Rebels believe everyone should have a CHOICE on whether they followed their destiny or created a new one. That's why characters like cedar & maddie are rebels despite wanting their destinies, they CHOOSE to follow bc they enjoy & are proud of their role (maddie) or want the end result of their story (cedar). Briar & ashlynn start out as royals despite not liking their destinies bc they believe the legacy system is needed to maintain order & keep everyone safe in the long run. As the series went on the creators kinda dropped the rebel/royal conflict as a story element, but since it was still part of the doll marketing they had to keep it for branding consistency. So it just became Royal = wants their assigned destiny & Rebel = wants a new destiny.

apple is actually such a kind soul, but she has sm trouble to understand the way raven and the other rebels think bc she was raised to believe there is only one correct way of living, it’s hard for her to overcome these beliefs, although her friends can do that easier. but i used to be an apple hater, too, she really was a pain lmao

Honestly, I always thought that Briar Beauty had Narcolepsy... But it also makes sense if she's just stayed up too long partying. Also, I remember reading the ever after high books and being kinda sad that they didn't include some parts in the show. I didn't realize this when I was younger, but the books show how much more twisted their school is with things.

a lot of the students have curses that stick with them till they live out their story they don’t explain this too well but u kept asking like why is she sleeping and why is he turning into a frog briar sleeps cedar can’t lie the frog dude turns into a frog (forgot his name) goldie can open any door a lot of them hv curses and stuff which is a cool addition to the universe in my opinion

Briar isn't cursed with sleeping for 100 years yet but she does get tired and fall asleep really easy. and I believe Raven does like Dexter, she just isn't the type for romance especially since she has other things to worry about

I don’t hate Apple White anymore because she does go through major character development. It’s actually my favorite storyline in this whole show. So I hope you continue because there is a specific scene that involves Apple and it changes everything for the better. It happens way later then where you are now in the story but it is worth it to get to that point.

The artstyle is enchanting and beautiful as always the animators really did a hat-tastic job❤ There's a few more reasons as to why Raven doesn't want to be the next evil queen. *Possible spoiler* this is also a things that many of the Fandom didn't really catch at the start ⬇️ This is the last warning I'll give to whoever reads this The evil queen is Snow White's stepmother! Meaning if Raven follows her destiny she'll have to ruin her stepsister's ( said stepsister being the current snow white) marriage possibly through killing her, then marrying the current good king therefore becoming Apple's stepmother. Then Raven would have to have a child regardless whether she wants it or not knowing that her daughter would go through the same pains she felt. After all that the vision she saw at legacy day in the mirror would be fulfilled. Also Raven is Apple's aunt, now this is mentioned in the book like once. If you go to TVtropes and search for ever after high you'll find more facts about this cartoon that was made to market a doll line♟

I feel like out of the Charming siblings you like the third the best i won't say much about them as to not spoil anything but they balance out Daring and Dexter well. Also if you want more lore the books are a great source of info and actually gives depth to Apple not trying to defend her cause she is SUPER selfish but a least the books expand upon why and give her an actually personality.

I am new to your channel and I was a huge fan of ever after high when I was younger. While I was watching your three videos on ever after high it brought back memories. I had the same thoughts and opinions as you on Apple White and all the characters. It was really entertaining watching you mock Apple White and be invested in this show. I can’t wait for more ever after high content and I hope I can see you watch Way to Wonderland and the Dragon Games because those are the two best parts of the show where you can see what happens with Apple White, Raven, and other characters in the show.

I believe the reason we see characters from other stories, like Alice in Wonderland, and characters like Baba Yaga, from certain legends, is because Ever After High is a school that includes the children of all legends, myths, folklore, and fairytales. It is called “the Book of Legends” after all. Legends could very well mean the students that attend the boarding school include all those from famous works of fiction, so this wouldn’t be limited to just fairytales. Also, Madeline is one of my favorite characters, she really has that Pinkie Pie vibe.

Rumpelstiltskin didn’t actually steal children. He did favours, and in return he asked for the first born of the person he helped. He loved gold. And his only weakness was his name. If you knew his name, you had power over him. But as told in the story, who’s going to guess a name like Rumpelstiltskin. So I’m the fairytale the man is lucky to overhear him gloating about his name to himself, which allows him to keep his first born.
