My soldering skill has at last reached level PS2 😆 But it was a mess bad soldering joints and a lot of wire held down by tape, I never thought of using glue ! But it worked so it was good enough 😆 seeing this im thinking I should give it another go 🤔

if you ever need any trace tracking on the boards, let me know. i have a couple dead motherboards that i used to find alt points for the previous matrix. i also found a way to restore the dvr function on these that have had hard drives replaced with ps2 hard drives. just never got around to posting a write up on psx-place

also to add to my email, currently the only compatible hard drive you can put into one is the original sony branded ps2 hard drives as the drives have some security that hasnt been broken yet.

You have OCD really bad man 😂 Nah it's great very methodical. Enjoyed every minute of it. I've got a PSX desr-7000 console on the way and want to do the same mod. Just a couple of questions please if you don't mind. Are you using 30AWG wire and what's the diameter 0.25mm? Also what are you using to adhere the wires together?

Very nice work! I have followed along with your video to put a mod chip in a PSX I bought as is. Mine has no HD as it came to me already dissembled. If you have any pics, looking to get a new hard drive connector board + cable as mine is missing. Looking foreword to your next video.

@@AndrewPaul Yes that is correct, thank you! Also any ideas on how to bypass the no HD to at least get ModBo working? I figured out a trick where If I press the power button repeatedly when plugging it in I can get the Matrix logo for the mod chip, and can also get into the config screen briefly but then it always seems to go back to flashing green & red. Wonder if there is some other bypass method.

Hi have you ever putted apps or games in the hd/xbmc menu? i saw a video with a picodrive, opl and other apps in the game tab inside xbmc, but the guy dont teach it

fanstastic work! Do You happen to have the diagram you used? I just did one and soldered the disc wires directly to the chip. I'm not seeing those alt points you used anywhere on the board.

Was that BIOS chip already modded and un-modded previously? I could predict exactly which pins you were about to solder on based on slight bumps in the existing finish.

It would be nice! I paid roughly double what I would have back in the day for this one. The only ones I can find now are over £100!

Absolutely. With the added bonus of direct boot to USB 👍 I quite like the Modbo 5 I'll be honest, especially considering you can pick them up for a couple of quid these days.

@Andrew Paul yeah. Well I just bought a psx in decent condition but he is not sure if the drive works. Is the modbo installation the same as your video? Still thinking if I should just stick with freemcboot

It should be the same, yes. You will need to find the clock signal point though for a Modbo 5 as an original Infinity generates its own internal clock.

Hey Andrew - another good vid! I’m finding that my 7000 only reads PS1/Blue Back PS2 CDs WHILE vertical / upright. Altogether, a PS2 DVD will not load All discs will load horizontally whilst a FMCB is plugged in I have a modchip that I was going to install, and then Infound that MechaPwn works for DESR now. TLDR - do you think it’s worth trying to adjust the tracking laser, or find a replacement?

If it was me bud I'd try and find a replacement for the burner laser. You should be able to find one from various PC DVD Re-Writer drives from a few years back. That's a job for me too shortly 👍

I’ve read that the lasers are somehow tied to the device, whether that’s calibration data or something else? I’ve been trying to read into what actually fails, as people just say it fails and they replace it or adjust the pots.

Xbox 360 fat modding is so easy these days. Pico pi to flash the nand, some wire and a diode is pretty much all you need to mod them.

The original chips are quite valuable now if you have one. I paid nearly £80 for mine in my PSX, the same site currently listed them for around €140!!

What does this mod allow you to do?

The PSX is a Japanese console. As such, it'll only play games from the NTSC-J region by default. This will allow me to boot discs (DVD and PS1/PS2 games) from all regions across the world. The Matrix Infinity was widely regarded as the best modchip available for the PS2 when it was in its heyday. The Modbo chips were clones of this particular chip - new ones are like finding a needle in a heystack and they are incredibly expensive when you can find them!
