Nice work on the psx. The new mic is sounding beautiful. I see (or rather hear) that you've solved the problem I brought up in the comments of that video, which was the plosives being very prominent.

Cheers :-) Had a play with the Rode Connect settings which seems to have done pretty well with it. I'm still going to grab a filter for it though shortly 👍

Enjoyed the video, The format seems acceptable.. On another subject.. One thing I have found is, When trying to catch, or measure to some degree, a transiting voltage it is best to use an analog meter. The response time is almost instantaneous and the needle swing/movement is a lot easier to see. The meter does not have to be accurate or really cost anything. I keep my 50year old radio shack cheapo analog meter that I purchased back in the early 70s's handy for this purpose, Keep the battery fresh and it works perfect, still fairly accurate too given the age. So if all you need is an indication of a voltage change or if a semi-quasi in the ball park accurate near instantaneous reading will do then use an analog meter... Good, Informative video Thank You...

Great idea. I have an analogue meter thinking of it, I'll dig it out and see what the result is. Many thanks for the suggestion 👍

Thank you for these videos on the PSX!! I'm glad you are trying to fix things on this as I have one that doesn't read any games and would love to get it working again!!

in regard to the bad cable, ive read that thats a common fault if the wrong laser module is used or some other messing around, one of the ribbon cables burns up for whatever reason

Thank you for the great series! So hard to find any good repair/mods for the PSX. I have a 7500 that works except for the sound; neither the composite or the digital. Video works fine. I’m thinking this could be a cap issue? I didn’t see any suspicious caps on the daughter board though. If you have any thoughts please let me know!
@AndrewPaul

Glad you like them bud. Could well be a cap issue, either that or an issue on the ribbons between the AV board and motherboard. I'll try and have a closer look at mine and see if there's anything else I can recommend.

Finally a video of the psu! Is there any way to make this psu compatible with 220v?

I did consider looking at this, but what concerned me was the extra heat generated in what is already a tight, hot space right next to that hard disk drive as it is. Still torn though as it would be nice if possible 😂

Great work! I am working on my DESR 7700. I unfortunately have strange issues and feel its hardware on the main board. My HDD still works. I replaced both lasers with new replacements however it still refuses to read CDs or PS1 games. Those discs barely spin for about 1 second then stop. Ps2 games will be read and play but once gameplay is started(not just booting game into game menu, actual gameplay, user controlling character etc etc) within a short period of time the system freaks out. The game will freeze or act as if youve encountered a bug in the software(screen glitching, sound repeating). You are able to switch back to xmb by using the quit game hardware button so the whole system apparently doesnt crash. Ive tried another ps2 laser with same results. Hopefully I can figure this out. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Keep up the good work!!

Hi, thank you for the comment :-) When it starts to glitch and you quit back to XMB, if you try to relaunch the game straight away, will it load back up and be OK again for a few minutes or does it start to misbehave straight away again? Any weird clicks or spinning up/down noises from the drive etc?
@Drunkmanatee
@Drunkmanatee Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewPaul Thanks for getting back to me! i can relaunch the disc in xmb. The disc drive does not appear to behave abnormally. No clicking of the drive heads or the disc motor ramping up or stopping. It will usually launch the game again but to the same symptom. Sometimes it wont and the system needs to be rebooted(not the common outcome). The only Japanese ps2 game i have is Initial D special stage. It plays the into video and everything fine. Loads the main menu. You can select game mode, your car(all 3d models and music are loading fine), your stage....then it loads the stage. Here is where we get trouble. Sometimes you can play 30 seconds into the race before everything goes nuts, sometimes it freaks out as soon as it is finished loading the stage. There is no set time it takes, it is random. It also does not matter the stage, car, or game mode(i tried). It is funny sometimes. Almost resembles some sort of logic issue. Sometimes the screen goes black with repeating engine noise, but your HUD stays visible. Sometimes your car flys through the air spinning around with the background glitching. When the flying car happens I noticed the speedometer starts rising rapidly. I was apparently flying through the mountain stage at 870 KPH. Thats probably a record of some sort lol. I should upload a video. It wont be for a month though.

Hey man nice vid! I'm struggling with my repair, when I turn it on I get to the splash screen then it goes to static...
@AndrewPaul
@AndrewPaul 7 ай бұрын
That's usually down to a defective hard disk drive :( You can still get some use out of it, just use Free MCBoot to bypass the XMB.

Your wire management is giving me PTSD. how tf do you manage to make them all clean looking ?
@AndrewPaul
@AndrewPaul 7 ай бұрын
Thanks man. Key is to plan out the install - before you start place the chip where you want it, look at the grouping of the points on the board and orient the chip accordingly so the wires have as natural a run back to the chip as possible. Attach all wires to their motherboard points first, then group them together and run a tiny bead of super glue across the wire group as you go back towards the modchip.

Did you buy those fluke leads or make them at 6 mins in? If you bought them do you have a link?
@AndrewPaul

Sure - they're Fluke TP-88s here: amzn.to/3HiXS0W There are some cheaper non-Fluke branded ones on there also but I've no idea what the fit / quality of those are like.
