MATT brings the Jeep to FAB RATS garage!!
Matt, from Matt's Off Road Recovery brought the Little Yellow Banana in for some maintenance work which included a new exhaust system custom built by Paul himself in the Fab Rats garage. Matt chose to use a Flow Master 40 series delta flow 2.5" muffler. In this episode, come along while Paul and Matt work together to create an awesome exhaust for the famous Banana!

13:08 Ray Flugger, owner of Flowmaster, invented the glass pack muffler, and called it Hushpower. He also designed the exhaust for the Stealth Bomber and gave it to the military for free. He sold Flowmaster to B&M Racing in 2011. Sadly Ray passed away February 8th 2020 at his home in Santa Rosa, California, at the age of 79.

I had Flowmasters on my beloved 1985 350ci Suburban. That truck would set off car alarms a block away when I was under load at a specific RPM. Don’t get me started on the hell I could raise in the parking garage at the mall. But alas, I got tired of the ringing in my ears and a year later had my muffler guy put quiet mufflers back on that truck. My wife, kids, and neighbors thanked me.

I never knew Ray though met him a few times, but knew his older brother Edwin, Ray's wife, and his niece (Edwin's daughter) who lived with me awhile. I was on a stockcar enduro racing team for a decade. I contacted Flowmaster and asked if they would like to sponsor us, and they sent us Flowmaster's for the racecar. I could always tell where our car was on the track even without looking, because with the Flowmaster exhaust it sounded different than all the other cars. The team had planned to come out of retirement to compete in the Lone Star 600 (two 300 lap races) this October in Mesquite, Texas. But with the China Virus situation I have a feeling that's not going to happen.

I am a single guy in my early 30s in the San Francisco Bay area, and most of the people around here suck. It’s so hard to find wholesome traditional values and lifestyles. On top of that we have the quarantine and everyone around here locking themselves in their house for months now. Yes, the lack of safety glasses is literally the only thing that isn’t great about the videos on this channel! Hey Paul, here is the same suggestion that I just left on Matts off road recovery channel . My original Idea was to build an off road camper trailer and power the wheels on the trailer. In short, how many home made trailers have you seen made from the back half of an old pick up truck with the drive shaft simply disconnected. The are a number of ways one could supply power again, Electric for sure would work but you would then need batteries to provide the power and they would weigh a lot plus a speed controller... A much easier way would start with a Toyota pick up rolling chassis (including engine and trans) remove the front suspension, add a hitch out front and you would be half done! All the driver of the Jeep would need is a "fly by wire" throttle for the trailer engine to provide some more push when needed on those sandy hills All in all you would have an articulated 6x6 ... Oh, one last thought, that engine on the trailer tongue could also turn a generator - think welder. PS... That lathe is awesome, that's what got me watching your channel. and in the same spirit as Matt's Corvair wagon, I built a Vega wagon back in 1988/89 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNCent1nrseZoGQ.html

Turned out great, I used to work in a muffler shop in the late 70,s we used welding rod to make a mock pipe and then bent it on a custom bender. Kyle Warren Matt is a man like me, he notices details that others would miss, like how he points out minor imperfections in his videos that most would never notice until he makes them known . He comes off as a pretty carefree guy but at the same time you can tell He is about his business and is very aware of and concerned about how he is perceived. Not like vain, but more like self conscious. His channel is popularity has also skyrocketed, I just started watching his videos and videos that are only a year old have people commenting about how he should have more than 1000 subscribers, now he has over 200,000 or something? At this point the KZfaq channel may be the most lucrative thing he does for a living and so he is taking it extremely seriously. But you are right, we all fell in love, entertainment wise, with the competent yet casual Matt, not the stressed out Stoic Matt we see in some of his videos that you are referring to. I know I'm a little late with this but, when I was a kid my mother sowed a heavy string to each of my gloves and ran it up thru the sleeves on my coat. I could take my gloves off but never loose them. They were always there when I needed them. Ha Ha your Awesome.

13:30 You say you are going to do a tip turn-down to Matt and you guys agree as if it’s an understood the thing do. Does that serve a particular purpose, The slight downward deflection? I have turn downs (and outs) on my Camaro right before the rear axle but that’s just to get the exhaust away from, well, the rear axle. On older cars the hidden turn downs were standard, now all cars have straight out the back exhaust that can be seen(style), and now after seeing this my curiosity is killing me! Also, nice mom joke to whoever was filming LOL Little John would be proud

We do it just to get the sound away from the Jeep. That’s all. It doesn’t really serve anything but that purpose and I like the way it looks.👍🏻
