Excellent interview and comments by both director, Tom McCarthy and the actors. Matt Damon's answers were very much in line with his character, enthusiastic and forthright. For once we are not going to watch a gun toting movie but one about relationships and development of the players. Must watch when it comes.

Gun toting? Maybe I'm confused about what you are saying, but the movie was based " loosely" on Amanda Knox trial. Aka murder trial. Relating to or not relating to Oklahoma has nothing to do with gun toting. I apologize if I misunderstood what you were saying.

Oklahoma is my home, and I am proud of where I’m from. I wish these multi-millionaires would re-connect with their own empathy and central part of North America for a year, and see how true Christians and Americans actually love their neighbor, and truly care about others, and maybe you’ll see that’s nothing that should be “novel”…it’s something that should be contagious.

I believe all politicians should really tour our country. They would be as surprised as Cambridge born Matt Damon. The people in the middle are smart, hard working nice people. No reason to to be snide. We should admire successful people. We should all strive to be successful regardless of our field of work. You can only become better that way. On the other hand, constantly looking at what others have and ridiculing them for it helps no one, least of all yourself.
@janetlynch5804
@janetlynch5804 2 жыл бұрын
@@rasputin7633 Are you talking about those, that you consider successful, as those who come from a dynasty, wealthy by inheritance, those wealthy who are given more privilege, and opportunity for gain, those famous for being famous, because of their connections to wealth, and those wealthy by taking it off their workers backs, those who use their wealth to buy politicians to change laws in their favor in order to continue accumulating more and more wealth without ever earning it, or those who are wealthy because of grifting and manipulation, those who do nothing but sit around, as money continues flowing their way? etc.etc. I.e. most of the Walton family, Big Pharma and creators of the Opiod Crisis the "Sackler" Family, and Manipulators of the Stock Market thru their connections, and skirting the law; Politician's who are handed large amounts of money to do their bidding, as the "for profit" policians are now put in position to invest for their personal gain, Yeah, that's right...most of those did not come by their wealth honestly with their kickbacks, government subsides, and paying their workers peanuts for faithfully making the products in order to reward the wealthiest with humongous bonuses, and outrageous profits, while feeding workers chicken feed for their gain, thus stepping on people to get there. And all of it is driven by Greed, and Power, and the smug arrogant Notoriety that comes with it. As an American, I cannot, nor will not look up to any of these so-called successful people. These people represent the modern day Gilded Age of the "Robber Barons" that led our country into a Depression in the late 1800's, and returned again in 1921-1933 and leading to the crash of 1929, and followed by the Great Depression. Yep, Trickle down has never worked, but they are back again, and this time with a better plan, which will destroy our Country, if we let them. The only successful people are those who contribute to the betterment of mankind for instance the Doctor who discovered Penicillin, and its use... who never took a penny for his discovery, and many many more...those people had integrity, which is more honorable, than any of the Billionaire Class today...Who are crooks, and wolves in sheep's clothing and leading America (they came back this time with a better plan) down the road to destruction. And they do not care, and when it gets bad enough in America, they will simply escape on their Jets to their Private Islands, and their Secluded and Gated Mansions all over the World leaving the rest of us here to implode, as they continue to live comfortably in their bubble. These people actually are cheated by never knowing or having the real experiences in life. Therefore without developing a conscious these people are subhuman, and out of touch with the real world.

In one of his interviews for this movie, M. Damon said that he made a friend for life while in Oklahoma. Judging M Damon for who he is, isn't the answer, but rather showing him what Oklahoman's are made of, is.
@gmb858
@gmb858 2 жыл бұрын
I agree but I think Damon grew a bit himself. He grew up in Cambridge Mass, I lived for a few years on Beacon Hill in downtown Boston. He lives in Beverly Hills, I worked for several years at Wilshire and North Beverly Drive in the epicenter of that burb, lived in Santa Monica. I know how people think in both places. I I didn't go to Stillwater; I went to Norman after my first 18 years of life in Oklahoma. Having said that, I think Damon caught enough of a glimpse of us to understand that this "red" culture is more plain spoken, which means they are more honest, they value their faith that says do unto others as you'd have them do to you. Despite the smear job that John Steinbeck did on the Joads in the Grapes of Wrath, people here are salt of the earth in the most literal way. Oklahoma is just a few generations away from a self-reliant life where you depended on your neighbors. If someone's barn burned down, everybody within shouting distance would come help rebuild one. Not for money, but because there might be a day ahead when you need their help. Interdependence on a personal level, community, a uniting of effort, a people with common goals. Not as diverse, but still appreciating the differences between people, showing respect and to be tolerant of those that don't see things the way you see them. It's a wisdom born of hardship where life is a struggle enough without complicating it with phobias and imaginative self trouble-making. I think Damon saw some of that and I think he liked it. He said the "people there treated us wonderfully." That's about right. The welcome mat is always outside the door.

Yeah, not everyone in the midwest is a "rough neck" or lives that church on Sunday, conservative lifestyle. People are people, and they are different and the same no matter where you go in the world. The United States is a big place as well. So labeling people doesn't really make any sense, anyway. Blindly labeling millions of people as ignorant "rough necks" like they aren't even human, when in reality that culture is very specific, is its own kind of ignorance.

Can't help but to come on here and leave a comment after reading 3 critic articles earlier about this movie. Ultimately I was interested because of the base of the movie like " taken " but the more I read each article the less it discusses the movie entirely as a whole. Unfortunately the majority of what I read was simply and politely bashing any American that didn't vote democratic or didn't play the role with skinny jeans and purple hair being a victim running with a certain narrative or agenda and simply calling anyone who disagrees or a different opinion a racist or phobe of some sort! These articles claim that most foreign countries citizens can't stand America or Americans that voted for a certain individual but I'm here to correct them. I've been to over 16 countries since 2017 and all over the nation. They're are more people by the millions who approve of conservatives especially Trump than anyone in Hollywood or New York will ever want to admit! The critic say because your a Trump supporter then your automatically labeled a racist or terrorist to other countries when in reality there were outstanding supporters from all ethnicity groups and sexes for Trump so are they all racist too? Finally I believe the left has terrorized America the past year with their riots than anyone foreign has ever accomplished even attempted while democrats promote even donate to them! Movies are bullshit these days and everything has become a victimized agenda and political just like our sports and the ratings prove my points and they deserve nothing more!

A number of times the exact same comment is repeated by different people. A ton of accounts with foreign names. I checked out a couple and they have random 30 second uploads from this interview. Guess Hollywood thinks this is their way of advertising so Trump supporters watch the movie after only receiving 15,000 or so views for this video. Thanks for your input. It doesn't feel like they've properly addressed the "Justice" question in the sense that the reporter probably wanted to discuss how the daughter was "maybe" guilty just as much as Akim - and I say maybe because it's a situation that got out of hand and she didn't want her lover to be killed - So they could have stated that everyone got what they deserved in a way - 5+ years for the daughter and even more for Akim - they could have said that but it's not really PC. After that, the Welcome Home scene felt very necessary in its critique of US Political reaction to the outside world and often misplaced sense of Pride But anyway , it's there in the movie for all to see - although in a subtle way - if one wants to consider these questions

Hey Matt. Here's a tip. A lot of people don't think it's depressing to live in Oklahoma or the middle of the country. Furthermore, we work honest jobs in the oil industry and other places, and we vote our conscience. If the oil industry were actually destroying the planet (the sea rises about 10 millimeters per year), many people would seek to do something else. As far as guns, you kinda have to wonder, don't you, how the "epidemic of gun violence" doesn't affect Oklahoma and plenty of other places where LEGAL gun owners are common? Love many of your movies, but in all honesty, you come across as a little arrogant and out of touch in this interview. You'd think Oklahoma was another planet filled with working class aliens.

Good for the people in Oklahoma, what a great "culture"! I respect Matt for giving an honest reflection of the people in the South, the "evil Trump voters" aren't so bad after all!

This is what the French and cannes think america and Americans are like why they keep picking hillbilly movies like stillwater and pig to represent them

Damon has sickeningly downed these people for years with insults; now he's promoting a movie in the way that benefits him such as trying to be "fair" hoping it'll go over. Damon's opinion is not worth any more than a roughneck's opinion. Their opinion and two bucks will buy a cup of coffee.
