Matt Skiba Talks New Blink 182 Album (Alkaline Trio At Slam Dunk Festival)

Matt Skiba spoke in an interview with Rock Sound magazine about the upcoming Blink 182 record - All three members (Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, Matt Skiba plus producer John Feldmann) recorded at separate studios and communicated about the songs / album regularly. He has described it as Blink, but a progression.
This was a little while before Alkaline Trio were scheduled to perform at Slam Dunk Festival - Which looked like it was super awesome and they got to perform their punk rock hits to a large crowd.

@@peter9111 each to their own... I think everyone would prefer Tom but I appreciate Mark and Travis carrying on the legacy and Matt is a good fit

Trio are my favorite band along with Bad Religion, cant wait for the BR/AT tour. Also, I LOVE Blink with Skiba. California was good, but NINE was even better and I know alot of people shit on the albums with Matt but I think he's the best thing to happen to Blink 182 since Travis joined. Now, we just need Mark to pull through with this awful cancer diagnosis!

Blink is lucky to have Skiba. Blink should take on a darker side of pop. Maybe a little more like Alkaline Trio thats my take on this shite.

I do really like Matt, but not for blink. Nothing against him personally it's just not blink with him in the band. I don't think blink is a band where you can replace Mark or Tom. blink's success is due to Mark, Tom and Travis' creative differences and the collaboration between them. P.s. have I said blink enough times?

THEY LOST ME AT DUDE IN THE POOL MARK YOU ARE LIKE 50. Focus on song writing. MOST IMPORTANTLY : ALL THE LITTLE COOL GUITAR RIFFS ARE ALL BUT GONE. AND ALL WE GET IS STRAIGHT 8 bar power chord intros mostly now

ANOTHER new blink album? weather or not you like their new music, they're putting out too much damn music. Spread it out a bit damn. I understand the demand is high, but as a band of their stature, you have wiggle room to play with. Why you wouldn't use that is amystery to me.

The only fan I’ve ever seen say there’s too much new music. Who says that lol, it’s also been 2 years since NINE, and before that it was 3 years since California, that’s plenty of space

I think it's fine. 3 years between albums is good (as they won't release the new album until next year at least, so that Mark is well enough to tour). It's not like they pulled a Weezer just yet

This is not blink stoppp. Nine and california are regressions and lack any creativity. And I still do not understand the choice of skiba. Like alkalyne is good but skiba is only a mediocre guitarist and his voice is closer to mark then tom. They needed someone more exciting sounding and skiba is not the most wild guy in the world and his voice follows his personality. To be honest I consider alkaline pop not rock

I love Skiba, and think he's doing just fine... I love the two albums BUUUUTTT I did think it was an odd choice at first. Mark wanted to work with Skiba previously, and they have a similar voice. But I think there are other singers who could've been cooler - Ryan Key, Pierre Bouvier and Adam Young for example
