STAN EFFERDING - MATT WENNING ON DEMAND SERIES HERE:
vimeo.com/ondemand/wenningand...
JM Blakley revolutionized the game with an exercise that it known as one of best movement patterns that can step up your bench game. It's incredible that such an exercise was created in such recent memory but has had such an impact on the powerlifting and fitness world. Many people don't know about this press and what it has the ability to do for lifters at all skill levels!
Bench pressing is hard on the shoulders without the exact proper form, something that all athletes need to be aware of and adjust their workouts accordingly. That said, a key move to avoid any bumps in the road to your strength journey is going the be the JM Press invented by J.M. Blakley who was a lifter just before Matt's time at Westside Barbell. It's amazing to see someone create an exercise which revolutionizes and furthers the ability of great lifters by just adding it into your cycles in just a few short months/years.
WARNING: THIS EXERCISE IS DANGEROUS WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF WEIGHT OR WHEN USED BY YOURSELF. It's not something to be messed with when you're not feeling good, or don't have spotters. UNLESS you watch this video and see how Matt has made it safer with the proper tools!!
Learn how Westside Barbell, J.M. Blakley, and Matt Wennning used this exercise to blow through world records and maximize their training without Injury in this how to bench pressing using the J.M. Press!!!!!
Thank you to all of our subscribers, we genuinely appreciate your support!!!
ALSO if you want to reach the next level find out how to fuel your body. Matt and Stan Efferding went in on nutrition on another video we just released. You can see exactly what The Mountain and Brian Shaw were eating to dominate the Arnold Classic 2019! Watch the video here for more information:

This isn't the original JM Press as taught by JM Blakely. Blakely specifically dictates a straight vertical bar path down to the bottom of the movement, not down to the chest and a roll-back into the bottom of the movement. There are several videos of JM teaching this movement himself.

I'm still not keen on JM press without a spotter, just because you're unracking with the weight behind you. The J hooks in the gym I attend aren't as shallow as I would like, so I can't really drag the weight out with just my lats. It's fine for light weights, but if I go heavy to the point where I need safety pins to protect my face, I'm probably going to need a spotter to assist with the unrack so I don't upset my shoulders. That being said, the JM press is probably one of the most beneficial exercises that is difficult to justify leaving out.

Matt is awesome, but I’m finding it really hard to believe anyone could perform this movement using the strict form being demonstrated with 400 plus pounds. I wouldn’t bring the bar that low over my teeth that is when it gets dangerous with a heavy weight!! It’s a very weak position leverage wise!! You could lower it a height above your face on the first few reps until you determine that it’s a weight you can handle lower to your face/teeth?? So, don’t lower it that low over your face/teeth without first testing the waters with a higher position over your face!!!!! Cause often you slap weights onto the bar and not realize it’s gonna be too much weight at that weakly leveraged position and your elbows could give way injuring you severely!!

work on triceps to protect yourself, but also be sure to not overload your bar if you are just attempting these. @@WenningStrength the manner of JM press that is exhibited in this vid, nobody can come close to doing that 405, not 315, 275 maybe, but that has to be a 600+ bencher raw.

This exercise has no real benefit. What decent triceps? Unilateral movements, occasional overhead extension and avoid missing you're shots. If you're triceps are still relaticely shit then just accept it
