Remember Arkham Knight? Where there were all these different villain side quests and they all ended so unsatisfying? For Marvel Spiderman 2 PS4(TM), gimme the opposite of that. Gimme a side quest where I need to mess with a bunch of water valves and end up in a dramatic boss fight against Hydro Man. This guy has some of the best villains ever, they deserve good, fun set piece boss battles. Also... Having old bosses break out and mess with the open world? Just be a swinging and suddenly: BOOM, DOPPELGANGER SWINGS IN AND YOU HAVE THIS ARIAL, SWINGING BOSS ENCOUNTER.

But for hardline spoilers. I think they should prelude the Venom arc with the Goblin arc first. Have Norman and Peter’s relationship turn into a complex bittersweet fallout which will give rise and reason to Harry becoming Venom and hating Spider-Man further down the line. While introducing the rest of Spidey’s rogues in non sinister six fashion like sidequests like fighting Hydro-Man, being hunted by Kraven, neutralizing Sandman. While making Otto, a more mentally complex villain in the process

Haven't seen the video yet, but that crying "aaah!" at the end of the Spider-Matt intro always gets me.

I think the sequel should have Miles and Peter be a sort of gta 5 type thing where it switches you for the story the first few times then you can switch between the two and each have their own side missions and collectables. Someone else in the comments mentioned different seasons and I think swinging around new York in a massive blizzard would be amazing.

The next game is gonna be a VERY direct sequel, let's be real. It'll still be this Peter Parker's show, he'll just share more of the spotlight with Miles, who'll probably get some actual combat and be available for free roaming. MAYBE we'll play as Harry, if they're getting to him as Venom right away. Spider-Gwen sounds inevitable, but that might be for the third game (We already know it's going that far).

Speaking as someone that has been a fan of Spidey since I was a literal baby, this is my favourite piece of Spider-Man media since... I can't even remember. They got Spidey incredibly right, they got Peter incredibly right, they even got side-characters and background characters and references incredibly right. As much as I enjoyed Homecoming, I felt like there was something missing in it and I didn't know what it was until I played through this: defining Spider-Man moments. Moments in which both Spidey and Peter selflessly throw themselves into a situation and HELP. PEOPLE. Sure Homecoming had some these moments too, but a lot of them were undercut by the Stark Suit doing 95% of the work. Spider-Man PS4 frames Peter as a selfless hero while retaining his humanity outside AND inside of the suit. This game brought me to tears FIVE MINUTES IN when Spidey lifts a shitload of rubble off of some civilians trapped in a burning building. I'm incredibly glad I picked this up and played through it because it really solidified just how important Spidey and Peter Parker are to me.

Super pumped for the Miles Morales game

Agreed on most counts! I’m just surprised you didn’t mention the soundtrack, especially the theme that kicks in when you start web slinging. It just makes the game that much more immersive and epic. The level of polish on Spider-Man PS4 was excellent. I’m curious to see how the 2020 Miles Morales sequel will fare. Miles’ backstory and relationship with Peter and friends has been well established in the first game, the character is likable and it’ll be fun to watch how Peter handles his new and unexpected friendly neighborhood Spider-Mentor role. 😁

This game along with Spectacular Spider-Man are what I believe to be the best adaptations of Spider-Man in any media outside the comics.

I'd like a Spider-Man 3 type of switch system between His regular and Black suit, or like you said, a switch to some of his AMAZING FRIENDS.

I was so badly hoping for the Punisher, Daredevil, or Luke Cage being in the game. They all live in NYC and often cross paths with Spidey. Still, pretty amazing game, and I'm looking forward to the DLC featuring Black Cat and Silver Sable.

I was pretty blown away at how good this ended up being, like I knew it was likely going to be a good game, but to be the best version of Spider-Man in entertainment right now is incredibly impressive and what they are hinting at with the sequel could very well lead to that game being better than the first, so I'm pretty excited.

I feel like after the sequel would be the prime time to finally give Spider-Gwen her own video game. I have a feeling after Into The Spider-Verse comes out in December, her popularity is gonna skyrocket. Her topsy turvy world would be a fantastic palate cleanser and a great opportunity to explore the more wacky side of the Spider-Verse.

MJ should have LA Noire style interviews in the sequel

I just think that if they'd like to have stealth sequences in the game, they should just have Black Cat playable. It'd be a 1-1 equivalent to Catwoman in ArkCity, but still. More than that, I'd like them to not be so afraid to put characters who happen to live in NY in the game. It's cute to make jokes about Strange and Daredevil, but still, it's *weird* that people aren't there.

I love how in spiderman ps4 how the tone shifted after Miles' father past away. I thought it was just going to be a happy game throughout and I was about to get bored of it.

I would love a classic Mysterio in one of the sequels. It seemed like the hallucination scenes with the Scorpion would have originally been meant for Mysterio. However, in the comics Mysterio has other schemes going on besides solely relying on his illusions, and this can be exploited in the future.

Insomniac's Spider-man is very polished and competent, but the movement system is a smidge too straight-forward and bland for my taste. While the animations are pretty for sure, you don't really get to add much style by your own input. Airtricks were nice but didn't always mix smoothly due to a slight delay. I think movement and combat should have special control layouts that you can switch between. The parkour and wall crawling mechanics especially got the short end of the stick, and improving those could even make stealth more interesting. Maybe there are times you can't use your webs for whatever reason and you have to rely on just agility to sneak by

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!! edit halfway through the video and going on a tangent: about open world stories ohh matt you guys should reeeeeeeeaally play horizon zero dawn. granted, the first couple hours are straight up a generic focus-group tailormade AAA supertitle. But underneath the first hours, the well goes deep, and it's a really well-thought, cool af sci-fi well like no other.

Watching this on the eve of Spider-Man 2 coming out, it's awesome to see Matt calling out Kraven and Symbiote as possible sequel stories, along with the expansion to Brooklyn and Queens and making Miles playable.

I think if they’re going forward with what the Arkham series implemented with multiple different playable characters. I think this platform is a Good way to introduce the Spider-Family to some extent. For instance Miles May have a DLC which I definitely see Prowler become a villain focal point in the story. Also while incorporating Miles different abilities into a more a stealth driven and subterfuge based gameplay given that Miles will not have access to the same sets of tools and skills like Peter.

The ONLY misfire I can think of with this game is how the side mission structure forcing you to fight waves of enemies, completely negating the benefits of stealthing the entire mission. Happy to say they removed that in Miles Morales.

Wow, this game was surprisingly amazing. I wasn't even bothered and liked Yuri's performance.

With the open world structure; The first time I played this game I was amazed at how closely it followed previous games in terms of gameplay but got so much more right with the dos and don'ts and the consequences that followed. The story itself was a great Spider-man tale that sucked me in instantly and I loved the culmination of the sinister 6 done to 11. I am just hoping that the same levity and enjoyment of the characters and story are brought to the sequel. Then the symbiote story and Venom will really shine and we will finally have a game outside of "web of shadows" to enjoy using the black suite.

After so long I didn’t care about the swinging speed because I was too busy looking around at how beautiful they made New York. They fleshed it out so well I was more than pleased to be swinging at that pace getting a nice look at everything.

I was thinking a Spider-Gwen game would make perfect sense, at least as a miles sized game to come out after 2. Just the thought of all the spiderwoman suits they could use and her different style new york.

I think you blew past spoiler warning when you revealed spidermans identity. I'll never read the comics the same way again...

Fantastic breakdown of what made this iteration of Spidey in game form really stand out. I'm personally really stoked for the upcoming DLC and a hopeful sequel. And I like your idea of after that trying for something really out there like Shattered Dimensions. This game really nailed the feeling of Spider-Man for me and brought back my nostalgia for the character that I had when first playing Spider-Man on the N64. As a big fan of a certain marvel character that was teased at the end, I already can not wait for the sequel. Also so they can iron out the few things that hold it back for me to put it above akham asylum and city. They can easily do this with the foundation they build for this game, becouse fuck, I enjoyed myself with this game. Way more than I thought I would. I got the platinum like a week ago, and I still play it to just swing around, and complete some benchmarks.

If you can watch a movie about Spider-Man fighting a purple alien monster on another planet that has the power of a god, then you should have no problem playing a game where New York gets Venomized lol. i think the only downside of this game was that the miles and mj sections were strickly stealth sections, sure the part with rhino as miles or the subway as mj worked great as stealth, bt they should have had a bit more diverse sections for example osborns house would have been fine without the stealth at the end as just an explore and find clues mission

imo the best spider man story and amazingly well written story in general insomniac has a lot to do to follow up in spider man 2

I absolutely can't stand the fact that there's no version of the black suit in this game. I really hope they at least give him the cloth version in the Black Cat dlc, since she gave it to him in the comics.

My biggest question about a sequel is where do they set it? Spider-Man is MEANT for New York, which is why no open-world game has dared take him out of it, but surely they couldn't just deliver the same map with different missions, abilities and costumes. That may as well be DLC. Do they just open the bridges to more New York? Do they go somewhere else, where the web-swinging might not work as well?

You know what would be crazy/stupid? Clone saga game...WITH MULTIPLAYER!!! Whole bunch of Spideys swinging around NY in custom costumes. It would probably suck, but just putting it out there

Amazing spiderman 2 is a game that wasted my money & time, it's a glitchy boring & repetitive game. Web of shadows is a much more fun game same with ultimate spiderman

I strongly dislike MJ in this game. She's not even MJ. She's Lois Lane. Consistently and frequently puts herself in life threatening situations with no regard to the feelings of anyone she cares for or who might care for her. Does it without any kind of powers or training. Then gets salty when she is told RIGHTLY what an ass she is for doing that. She's totally not MJ in this game, just Lois Lane with red hair. I'm 80% through the game, so I don't know what happens, but I want Peter and MJ to stay friends. I'd rather have Felicia/Black Cat.
