DCS: Mi-24P Hind | Unguided Weapons

In this DCS Mil-24P video, we’ll review use of unguided weapons in the Hind. This includes the 30mm cannon, rockets, and GUV machine gun pods. Later, we’ll explore bombs, submunitions dispenser, grenade pod, and other rockets.
For the 30mm cannon, S-5 and S-8 rockets, and the GUV machine gun pods, a continuously computer impact point can be displayed on the ASP-17 gunsight for excellent accuracy. All other weapons are based on manual-sighting, but you can receive optimal range data for some like the S-13 and S-24 rockets.
When matching the weapon against the selected target, the weapons can be devastating against unarmored and lightly armored targets.

Well pretty much any helicopter with a tail rotar turns more quickly in one direction then the other so usually the helicopter will turn in the direction that is easier. For the Hind those are left turns hence the cockpit is designed to accomidate that.

For the AH-64 Apache if you watch air shows they turn right most often because they're main rotar turns counterclockwise.

Oh! I see eyeballs! Nice! I bet there will be some amazing paint schemes for this beast of a machine. Also having served in the military and having fired many various weapons I was impressed with the gun run. The ricochet off the target was enough to induce flash backs. lol

Great video, really looking forward to this. One minor observation, related to the Cyprus terrain - a couple of times in the vid it looked like the AI civilian traffic were running out of paved road, onto fields. Hopefully that's something the map dev can look at.

You actually don't, after you align and fly straight towards the target the gun from a Marder, a wire guided missile from a BMP or 20mm from AAA will take care about that. IFV/APC AI is crazy accurate in DCS against helicopters. 😇

@@Eleolius Detection is actually quite ok and reasonable (group communicating over the radio, front/side/rear arc different and LOS affected by stuff). It's more the insane target tracking and lead calculation and aim with ATGM against Helicopters at 3000-4000m distance, that makes BMPs sometimes more dangerous than most AAA. 😇

The glass reflection on the instruments looks much nicer! I think it's a shame that the rocket smoke is drawn in white. Gray would be more realistic, right?. Good video! thumbs up ✌.

Yes, this is our new glass tech. We recognize the rocket smoke color and on the to do list. Not just color, but also needs to be more volumetric.

Just a question: is the speed drop really valid during the fast burst of the GSh-30K? As far as I know, if you set the fast burst mode, the cannon could slow down the entire helicopter in the air, by a 100km/h, even if the speed was over 250km/h. I saw several times the Mi-24P firing in real, at the local firing range with both cannon mode. The slow rate of fire is the mostly used way of firing, because of the extremly huge back kick of the high rate mode.

Hi Matt aka comrade, I have 2 questions. what does the "fxd mg 30 RELOAD" button stand for? can you refill ammo with a stopover somewhere in the field? as far as i know the hind likes to have extra ammo for itself loaded in the soldiers transport compartment. and what are the 2 switches in the top center 1-3 with the RECHARGE heading?

The 30mm is much more effective than the inaccurate, low damage effect peashooter on the D that can only inflict damage on infantry and unarmored vehicles.

Hey wags, what rockets did you have loaded aboard for this? That seems to be a sort of short range for the maximum range on the gunsight, there's footage of hinds in Syria getting accurate hits with rockets from significantly further out.

What is the penetration value of the armor piercing rounds this cannon fires? Does it fire APDS?

It only fires a standard AP shell. Like the A-10C, closer the target the better for maximum pen.

Hind turns to the left quicker due to tail rotar. Cockpit is designed to take advantage of that. Just like hornets orbit left and Vipers orbit right because the position of the targeting pods on each aircraft.

Mind a suggestion to improve this video? I know you went over it at the beginning, but, as you line up, a brief "weapons check" to go all over the switches and dials and whatnot. Please do this in the future, it would be so helpful. Knowing me, I just know that I'd be all ready to fist-pump having brought the enemy to their knees only to drop my rocket pod like a bomb on them! haha.

You can adjust the keyboard pan speed in the view.cfg file.
