In this DCS: Mil-24P video, we’ll explore use of the 9M114 Shturm anti-tank guided missile, or ATGM. During the early access period, we will also add the high-explosive warhead version of the Shturm and the more powerful 9M120 Ataka ATGM.
Delivery of ATGMs in the Hind can either be done through the operator station using the Raduga, daylight, optical sight, or from the pilot seat using Patrovich AI.
The Shturm and Ataka are effective weapon systems against armored vehicles like main battle tanks, but much depends on the angle of attack, and it may take more than one shot to score a kill. Maximum engagement is range is between 4.5 to 5.5 klicks, based on launch conditions.

Stepping away from F1-F12 command lists and making the UI way more intuitive with the directional commands is so nice to see, and the target acquisition was impressive. Gives me hope AI is approaching the point where we can have seamless multicrew. Thats the kind of tech people will pay $60+ for. In a few years might even get voice commands working, that'd be sick.

@arthurvilain7270
@arthurvilain7270 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the best way to begin is probably just to jump in the aircraft that tickles your fancy the most and learn it at your own pace, one step at a time. And now is a great time to get in DCS, with the recently started free trial program. You can test drive any module for 2 weeks, so you can really try everything and find out what you actually like :) Whenever you get a new module, the first thing to do is probably to download the relevant PDF from Chuck's guides ! They are THE ultimate resource for learning an aircraft quickly IMO. Joining an online community of DCS players is also a great way to get started, and the player base at large is quite beginner-friendly. I can personally recommend Hoggit on Reddit and Discord (and they have some great PVE servers), but there are a lot of other nice groups out there. Finally and most importantly, remember that there's no wrong way to play DCS. If you're having fun, you're doing it right ;)

bit late on my answer but also consider that the KA-50 has a pretty decent camera system and you can target stuff from miles away, and you have ABRIS for situational awareness and a data link with other KA50's - so all in all, visibility through eyeball mk1 may not be that great in comparison to the electronic arsenal of the 50 :D

Yep, the hind was a helicopter designed before having a bunch of electronic displays and such to assist you along with power voltage. To add to the complexity you’re also given the option to communicate with the other member in the helicopter. They must be definitely proud of how they made petrovich. Above all else, he could’ve been made more complex but they made him simple for us.
@ErdenizS
@ErdenizS 3 жыл бұрын
To me it's completely the other way around: it looks simple and straightforward. A lot less complicated than Ka-50, or the upcoming AH-64D, or even the upcoming OH-58D. Unguided weapons employment is simple and straightforward (no pun :P), and ATGM employment is also quite intuitive it seems. And with Petrovich AI it is almost too simple, so I see myself flying with it mostly off often.

I note the Petrovich AI has a delay built in for finding targets - well done. Q1. Is the Petrovich AI susceptible to normal battlefield obscuration from smoke, trees terrain etc? If so, does this apply to both before and after missile launch? Q2. What is the search area that Petrovich will look around from the point you designate? How wide/ far from there will he search? is their a pattern to it? Q3. What happens if the Petrovich can't find a target in the search area? Does he tell you in some way?
@darkest_eclipse8271
@darkest_eclipse8271 3 жыл бұрын
To answer the first one, in early access I imagine that the ai won’t be super advanced. So they won’t necessarily be obscured by smoke, but terrain for sure. Note that pretty sure the optical device used to guide the ATGMs is laser guidance so any kind of terrain will obscure the laser for the missile.

I was going to comment that "I'm a little concerned about what Wags has going on the side because of the "Roxanne" remark," but somehow that seems inappropriate. I will comment that the Petrovich seems pretty decent. Good job ED.

Looks very nice and I'm glad controlling petrovich doesn't seems overcomplicated! Only question I have is about VR support: how is the ATGM scope going to be represented? Some "virtual cinema" where the screen is in front of you and is black all around? A floating window Popping in the middle of the cockpit?
