One question that often comes up when Dave is out riding is "why did you go with the Sport X RC over the base model X3 X RC? We in this video, Dave answers that question by comparing the pro's and con's of each machine. Which one is right for you? That will depend on where you ride. Watch the video to find out!

I have the 2019 MAVERICK SPORT XRC, and my fuel gauge seems to work just fine. The longest ride I have taken was 97 miles, and the gauge showed 1/4 tank. When it was filled, it only took 4.5 gallons to fill. I remember when I had the 2013 Commander, we rode out to "Chicken Corners" area in Moab a few years back, and I put 106 miles om the trip, and only took 6.4 gallons to fill that tank, but the "low level" light had been on since the 80 mile mark! I appreciate all your Video's, so keep them coming please.

This is a great video, not enough attention on the canam sport machines. I’m running two x3’s and love them but really enjoyed this video, it’s all about having fun and actually riding, the machines are all so good now.

Great video and every machine has its pluses and minuses no doubt. I bought a RZR 570 as my first SxS back in 2015. Converted it to 60" wide with a superatv kit and ran a set of 29" tires on it. It did great in our ky/tn trails and held up great. I recently sold it and bought a Wildcat X. I was wanting something with more travel, interior room and horsepower. The Wildcat has some quirks but I think can be solid machines over all, especially for what they sell for used. First thing I have noticed is with the seats being lower and more slung back as well as the rear mounted radiator I have lost some visibility. The short little RZR had really good visibility. However I have already noticed on the one ride i have taken the wildcat on that the stability feels amazing with the long wheel base and low seats and it rides great with the trailing arms. I think trailing arms provide the best ride and travel but like you mentioned they will hit at times. As for power, I was only ever lacking power in the 570 on muddy uphill sections where momentum was needed. The 1000 X is a lot of fun at 90hp and we rarely ever get out of low range anyway. I think most these machines are pretty good if you drive with some sense and maintain them.

The seat position is what sold me on the sport vs the X3 and the sport suits my riding style for the tighter trails. I don’t ride dunes and 100 HP keeps me in check. Good comparison though. I’m sure someone will come out with suspension improvements soon for that bucking. But that’s the case with any short base vehicle.

Like you say it depends where you ride. A budget. And how you ride. Having both they both get it done. Each has a pro and cons vs each other. When I hop back and forth you feel the difference but also realize how great they are at being different and getting most things done very well. (Not inc whoops in a sport, just tried that, pass lol) So I think Can am did well with two great option and the 64 base turbos in the middle. Great breakdown and awesome points. Hope you get to rip an X3 one day, they are something else even if you still don't want one. Thrilling experience.

Good news, I took the sport down to Shock Therapy on Monday so they can develop a kit. Now my shocks are 2.0 with less travel, but it suffers the same issues. They will be creating dual rate springs with a cross over for it. They think it should do some improvements that will get rid of some of the rear end bucking in the whoops. It will improve ride height and smooth out the low end stuff. It should create some bottom out resistance as well. If it works for me, it will work better for your machine.

I really like the sport and would love to purchase one but it seems lacking in the softer ride that I’ve had in other machines, I hope Can-Am can iron it out for the next model I love the XRC because of the width outfits on trails everywhere I’ve noticed watching your videos that I don’t see the articulation on the sport like I do other machines even the X.3 I’m thinking and I’m not sure but I think the springs are too stiff for the sport for rock crawling they may be too stiff in general I wonder if there’s an aftermarket spring because you can always turn it up but you cannot turn it down below soft and it’s not soft enough for rock crawling let’s just say it’s 25% less capable than the other machines and I think it would benefit it with softer springs.It seems great otherwise for trail riding

I have had both once you get used to x3 the visibility gets better. You definitely have to lean forward and look out but its honestly not as bad as it seems when you first get in one. Between the sport and the x3 there is little comparison. XRC rides rather firm the x3 is a pillow.

Dave, just wondering if you looked at/considered the RZR XP1000 Trails and Rocks edition? It's right in the same price point and features. It doesn't have a selectable front locker but has features such as lower transmission gearing, more sensitive differential activation, and arched a-arms and radius rods. I have some experience in one and don't really have any complaints but when looking at what I want to buy personally, I'm comparing these three models (plus maybe the KRX). Just curious if you considered it and, if so, what your thoughts between the Sport and it were. Great video!

If you want my two cents...between the two you mentioned buy the Can Am just for reliability reasons. I’ve been doing this side by side thing since 2004 and seen a lot. But you should go look at the 2019 and 2020 YXZ sport shift! Go watch “TCB OFFROAD” and check out his in action...

Honestly I didn't look at the Polaris at all. We had a 2017 xp1000 and is was enough to make me not want to look at another one. The KRX is an awesome machine and for the money can't be beat. The xrc is a little too expensive when compared to the KRX.

When it comes to the fuel gauge I think you're making a mistake. That is intentional. It has 4 gallons of reserve when mine is empty I have burned 6 gallons of gas that is so you never run out. Did they perhaps make the reserve a little too big? I do think so. The only thing I think is weird is they don't specifically call it out that way. But my first buggy was a Honda pioneer 500 and I think it had 5 gallon of capacity. But they only counted four gallons on the gauge and the last gallon was reserve. Honda did tell you that right in the manual. I wish Can-Am more specifically stated it in their manual as well but I do believe that is the idea

Well I must be lucky so far my gas gauge works. I sat in a x3 I didn't like the laid back position not being able to see tires. One thing I hate with our rc is brake squeaking drives me crazy I don't know if they all do it or not or if there's remedy. Other than that I like the machine.

The Mav Sport, slap on a Force Turbo kit, and that wakes it right up! Does it have the capability of the X3? No, but the pros outweigh the cons on one vs the other in all other categories! The heater option sold me alone, the X3 doesn't have the option and the aftermarket kits are garbage! The Sealed up cab needs a heater if you're going to keep the windows clean in winter. The Sport seating position is much better for all around usage, especially for pushing snow or cruising around on trails etc..
@ttp_007

Well, there a re lots of variables to be considered. X3 with more power can handle bigger tires, that means more not only more clearance but smoother ride over obstacles. Trailing is proven to be the most used by real rock crawlers. You will not see a problem with A arms over even steps, but A arms will get stuck over small tall rocks and there nothing you can do to improve it. While the trailing arms will slide over them. Just use skid strips under the trailing arms to prevent damage. Sitting taller not only affects you CG making it more tippy but rocks the driver and passenger body way more. Is the X3 better? Yes, for sure, more room for upgrades, storage boxes available for the back, it looks better and more fun to drive, you will not get bored driving it after awhile. What machine is best for you? The one you can afford and use very often!
