Testing a theory put up by a few of my subscribers: Can a drone restart its motors while in a free fall after the emergency shut down has been engaged?

*It would have recovered even if it were inverted.* Try holding it inverted and giving throttle - only two adjacent rotors spin and the other two are almost stationary. This would create torque to turn it over (and thus upright). The engineers who built this drone are smart people and know about gyroscopes!

On the edge of my seat!!! Thanks for sharing. I'm currently nursing 2 band-aids because I tried to catch the drone mid-flight to avoid smashing a clients property indoors. Was flying in tripod mode, landed for a sec then back to the air and didn't reset to tripod mode again. It shot to the ceiling faster than I expected....lol.

Mate, that was absolutely EPIC! You have a huge set of cohones to even attempt that with such an expensive bit of kit! I just got my Mavic Pro and she hasn't even had her maiden flight, so you can imagine how I felt watching you do that - I felt like you were doing that with MY drone!!! Congrats on pulling it off! Now I need to take a sedative and have a good lie down! Sheesh! Lol!

I am curious, when the motors restarted did it automatically halt its fall? I have tried this once with a Phantom 3 and whilst the restart worked, the yaw spin halted instantly, it continued to fall, it took me a second or so to realise the motors restart at idle. For what it is worth the restart also reset the home point which might be something to watch out for.

I did this same exercise with my Wingsland M5 out at my country place...in a pasture. It's a much lighter aircraft and did not fall a like a brick which was demonstrated above. When I was watching that video I thought that Mavic was going to smash into a million pieces in that parking lot. You're dangerous Maverick....that's a Top Gun reference for those of you who are too young.

Great information thank you. Question a little bit off-topic: are you getting anything remotely close to 4 miles distance when flying a Mavic pro? I understand the obstacles but at best we're Ifly once I hit between five and 6000 feet I begin to lose signal. Furthest I've ever been able to fly out was just over 8000 feet. What are you experiencing to be the norm?

Wow, I was wondering if that manuever would work since reading about it in the manual on how to stop the motors. I too was thinking about birds attacking it, and getting away as fast as possible. I'm in Jacksonville Florida, and where I fly, there's lots of Hawks, buzzards, and seagulls, etc. They will come after your drone. We just try keeping an eye on them, ( your spotter), and haul ass away from them in sports mode, as needed. No issue so far with them. You had me so nervous with that manuever, man!! My wife flys her Spark with me all the time, so we both were wondering about that process. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and fly straight. J & D.

@GadgetReviewVideos
@GadgetReviewVideos 7 жыл бұрын
Karol Babioch if you keep them their then it won't reset the command sequence and just keep falling. You have to put them back to center and then back again. One thing I forgot to try in the simulator is maybe a slightly faster way. Both sticks to the outside stop or start, and same with both sticks to the inside. Maybe you can take them from the outside to stop, then change them both to the inside to start. It would only be about 200 milliseconds faster. But who knows, sometimes ever millisecond counts.

Yeah I know what u mean. My neighbor hates drones and even threatened to shoot my Mavic down and I said go ahead just be prepared to go to jail. I always take it far out and up high away from houses but take off in my front yard. Guy is just a jerk and complains about everything even when my daughters basket ball went in his yard by accident he came out cussing at her and she is only 10 let's just say it didn't end well because she was in tears. I obey drone laws always.

As a 107 License holder, I can tell you 100% that it is NEVER legal to shoot at a drone. The FAA considers it an aircraft, and shooting at ANY aircraft is strictly prohibited. The neighbor's airspace is dubious. If it went to court a judge would consider what was "reasonable". 200 feet above his property as long as the intent was not to spy on him would be fine. Especially if it is a transitional flight, to get to somewhere else.

Hi Chris, what did you do exactly? First emergency shit off the motors, and then? Same gesture for take off? With a little while in between? Thanks BTW this may be a rescue tip if the drone is very high with little battery. Speed for lowering the drone is very slow, and battery consuming.
