Both, the Anemone and the Barnacle, are small but very versatile utility pouches from Maxpedition. They would be even more versatile if Maxpedition had provided them with a belt loop on the back.

Really wish the barnacle had a belt loop molle patch like many other maxpedition products. This pouch was exactly what I’m looking for but sadly no belt loop

WAYYYY over built & bulky compared to the little amount of space available to store things. That's a common issue with Maxpedition. I have the Mini & Micro pouches which are fine with space, but these would be too little for the bulk it creates. For example, if you pack the inside by using all the pockets then you can barely fit anything in the outside panels.

@mrmonkeyman50 Thank you! Yes, melting the ends works quite well. But I've come to use the TacTies only for attaching MOLLE items permanently; for items I frequently attach and detach I prefer the SpeedClips.

GREAT VIDEO! You really helped me make a thorough decision. The ANENOME is definitely the way to go for me. Thank you for a very educational video.
@tetsubo5712 жыл бұрын
That is what we are currently using. But they 'slouch' on my wife's narrow belt. There is a lot of slop. I think the speedclips might afford a more narrow profile and hold the pouch more closely to her body.

I was hoping you would put a pack of cigarettes in the barnacle and a zippo lighter in the front pocket. Would you say the barnacle would be good for these items?

Great review! I wish the Anemone was still being made.. I have two barnacles though.. I thought an anemone was a sea creature that attaches itself to rocks that also may have barnacles attached to it as well..
@Corsair8X13 жыл бұрын
Good comparison. I really wish they had included the pen-slots on the Barnacle. That would have made it a perfect small edc pouch. I think the Anemone is just a little too bulky for too little gain so I could not use that. Really wish the Barnacle had the pen slots.

Great vid. I must have compared the barnacle and anemone for about an hour before settling on the anemone. It's a great pouch, I have it attached to my fatboy but I reckon it it makes a better waist pack than the m2, the m2 is clunky in comparison.

@stschmalhaus Another great review - love comparisons. Your joke about German names was hysterical! If you want to fix your frayed tac ties, just hold a lighter gently in the frayed area and it will melt the frayed parts and give you a stiff edge again.

My wife carries a Barnacle as her belt pouch. A belt loop would have been a nice addition. Do you think you could use the Blackhawk speedclips as a belt loop?
@vuileasbak13 жыл бұрын
isnt it a drawback to use the speedclips in stead of the tacties? i can imagine the pouch *flopping around* with the speedclips because of the fact that only one molle strap is attached to either the bag or the pouch in your opinion? whats the best option when you are going for max retention putting a pouch on a bag? thnx in advance and greetings from holland

Stefan, thanks for the review. I agree about the Tac Ties - they are hopeless, awkward to use and as you say, the ends fray with use. I owned an Anemone for a while, but when I replaced my mobile phone with a Samsung Galaxy S2, it would not fit. (I had an old Nokia clamshell phone which did fit.) Does the S2 fit inside the M2 waist pouch? I think that may be the replacement.
@StefanSchmalhaus12 жыл бұрын
I'd rather use the Maxpedition TacTies in this case. They are more flexible.

Great Review! Really assisted me in broadening my choice in Add-ons for my Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger. I am thinking about getting the "Monkey Combat Admin Pouch" for the Back. The "Hip-Flap" will have a "Double Sheath" and (thanks to you) the Anemone. But i JUST stumbled over the "Triad Admin Pouch" which sums up the last 2 and adds an extra "document" compartment.. Mutti! lol Ich hab Keine Ahnung Dr :) Greetings, Dutchman from Downunder.

Sounds like the wannabe surgeon from the movie Hostel... im kinda scared right now... lol jk, good video, looking to check out molle pouches for transferring essentials from my edc redrock assault to an INCH pack if full shtf calls for getting out long term. My INCH is for 4 people so cant obviously be a work bag but a lot of my edc will need to go with the INCH but if I cant take both bags I want a fast incorporation of the two. Thanks for showing me some good options.
