Although it's clear that performance and battery wise m1 mac was better I wld still like a review on the matebook bcz touchscreen js kind of a necessity for me. Also while battery is definitely better on m1 mac, I don't rlly care since for coding it will last all day, and for coding 16 gigs of ram makes a huge difference compared to the m1 macs 8 gigs, forcing me to get the macbook pro. Ultimately I'm a bit confused as to what I should get the macbook bro or the matebook x pro.

I owned Macbook air for about 3.5 months now and I have to say its faster than any notebook I used before which comparable in size. It doesn't have cooling veins at the bottom so I can put it anywhere I want (on my lap, on pillow, etc) which I love the most, feeling relax when using it.

@@kaberigomes2117 I suggest you wait till WWDC, they'll release the M1X in the 14" MacBook Pro. 90% performance increase for 200-300 bucks, it's really a no brainer! Also by that time, maybe crucial apps like Adobe's apps will get optimised to ARM. It's really a win win.

I do still like the “How much does the Windows laptop throttle when unplugged” test but I love the new battery test. Maybe after looking at the battery results you could do one more quick benchmark but plug them both in and see if anything changes. (This could also test how fast it charges based on the few percent it may charge while running the test)

This M1 chip is astounding. The optimization is unbeatable. They could have priced this 200USD more than the Huawei based on that comparison. Where I live I can buy the top of the range Macbook Air M1 for 150EUR less than that Huawei MateBook X Pro.

NO windows laptop can come near the m1 macbook air unless they switch over to arm chips and update windows on arm to translate x86 based applications efficiently

amd has a better chance than intel,x86 is just way too inefficient in power consumption, x86 will fall in the laptop segment as they consume too much power and the batteries would run out too fast, amd already announced they have plans on shifting to arm based cpu manufacturing,so arm is the future for laptops but x86 will still be around in the desktop for quite some time untill arm chips are powerful enough to replace them too

There is an apple fork for tensorflow 2.0, and it is using the m1 MI acceleration. Iam training neural networks with it, and it is blazing fast.

To be completely fair, I had bought a Matebook D14 for both my mom and girlfriend, since they both use PC and needed a new one. I had read good reviews and the price was pretty decent (600-650€) for 512GB and 8GB RAM. My thoughts were that the computer would be great and, unboxing it, it looked really nice (although Huawei definitely takes inspiration from all apple products). Unfortunately the actual users pointed out some pain points: - my mom had issues with the trackpad registering false touches - my girlfriend sometimes had false touches, sometimes the fingerprint reader would not work and I’ve also noticed that if you clicked on the space bar in the far right corner (where I usually tap), the click is often not registered which is super annoying. Good on paper, definitely not as satisfied as I am with my MacBook. I could definitely pay more for a machine with close to perfect experience. No Windows deciding it wants to update whenever he wants, undoubtably the best trackpad and multi touch experience I’ve ever seen, great screen with P3, great build and materials… And now that M1 is there, even the complain about overpaying for average performance is gone

I really, really love that the Apple M1 Macbook Air is fanless : it means it is super quiet to use. I only wished that Apple would have prioritize the Apple M1 Macbook Air battery life even more significantly and push it to ~25+ hours web browsing (versus 15 hours according to Apple website) even if it would have mean lowering peak performance by 15% or 20% : it would still be good enough in most usage cases, and open new usage scenario (full day worry-free battery life, and so no need to take the charger with you during the day...).

I think this comparison it's a bit unfair towards the Matebook X Pro. I owe the 2021 model as well and I'll tell you why: You can't put these two laptop one against each other. Because even if M1 macs are totally on another league, there is still people who needs either Windows or Linux for their workflow. Of course, if you need specific MacOS programs for video or photo editing, you'll better go for the macs M1 hands down. But what about comparing this laptop with competitors on Windows side? Then you'll be able to see the real value behind it: A stunning laptop made with an alluminium unibody, with a 3k display 3:2 aspect ratio (and this is VERY important), and slimmest bezels on the market. This device is supposed to compete with the BEST of premium WINDOWS laptops for professionals: Dell XPS 13. After thermal paste change, my Geekbench 5: 1470 single-core 4500 multi-core on BATTERY. 1570 - 5500 plugged in. And guess what? If you want to buy a Dell XPS 13 with SAME SPECS (i7/16gb/512gb) and 4k screen in Europe, it will cost you MINIMUM 2300€. Matebook X Pro 2021 came out with an MSRP of 1899€, with multiple gifts from Huawei if bought on their webiste (Monitor, backpack and mouse). Still, I've bought it from China and I've paid it 1500€ in total (2 years global warranty included from Huawei). Bottom of the line: if you need to use WINDOWS or LINUX, this is one of the best choices available for your money. A highly competitive machine if bought for the right price. PS: Using Parallels or any other virtual machine to run Windows RELIABLY everyday, is definitely not an option for most of the professionals out there.

I actually saw in some other review that the m1 machines don’t have really have an impact on performance when they’re plugged in, not that they need it in the first place but it’d be interesting to see if you could do a performance test when they both are plugged in.

If you're looking to buy an Air or something in that price point I would buy one now because it will take a while for that to get replaced. The M1X/M2 laptops that come out first will cost a lot more than the M1 Air.

They _were_ mislabeled, but he was right when he _said_ the Matebook X Pro had the larger battery (at least according to Google). MB Air says 4,379 mA-h in their specs; X Pro says “56Wh” in their specs. (The mW-h vs Wh calculations don’t seem to make sense, but best case the X Pro has 27% more capacity. Worst case, it’s like 12x the capacity!!)

I was skeptical about the M1 but After all these videos I decided to return my M1 MacBook Pro and buy an M1 MacBook Air and yes , you are right , with optimized software it is unbeatable . So unbeatable that I have also ordered a 2TB Cellular 12.9 iPad Pro and look forward to putting my hands on it , confident that Apple will surprise us at WWDC 😀

On the CineBench tests, every time you get the fan running on the Huawei, it’s blowing the hot exhaust onto the MacBook Air. Any thermal throttling there?

For future tests in Lightroom Classic (especially when testing the upcoming larger iMac and MacBook Pro), could you do comparisons using the spot removal tool? I find that if I am cleaning up marks it is so laggy (on a 2020 27" iMac) compared to the clone tool or healing tool in Photoshop but I don't want to have to round trip every image if I'm not doing other Photoshop work. This would be hugely helpful and a good comparison to something that is commonly used but the Intel chips suck at.

If you want an air or something in the $1000 price range just buy it now. it will probably be 1.5 years until the new air. The new Pro's will cost a lot more $1800+ for the redesign with M1X/M2.

The M1 was meant to dominate $1000 - $1500 range. M1X is meant to dominate $1800-3000 range, where the M1 will be a little lower in terms of performance then the i9s and 5000's of that price range. There the the M1X will be analogous to the M1

Also you are comparing with a gaming laptop.... In case of upcoming Apple M2 or M1X with 12 core it will easely outperform 51m in i9 in CPU dept no doubt..... And in gpu as expected from a gaming laptop alineware will be much better for sure with dedicated gpu

8:37. The M1 Macbook Air cannot run at 4k and nor can the Matebook x Pro. Also, the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark test was inaccurate and flawed because the Matebook x Pro has a much higher resolution compared to the M1 Macbook Air. In order to make the test accurate, you would need to reduce the resolution of the Matebook x Pro to 2560*1600.

I'm curious as to how you achieve Cinebench R23 scores of 7668 points on a MacBook Air on battery and the best I get with mine plugged in is 7011. My MacBook AIr is up to date with Big Sur 11.3.1 and I disabled widgets and iCloud to free up memory. What changes were made in order for you to get that score?

@@theotherphil No, 8-core. It does not take very long for the machine to get up to 95 degrees Centigrade during the Cinebench benchmark test.
