👍🙏I’m so grateful and thankful that I had the chance to meet her and have a conversation with her in 2001. She was legendary while she was alive and most certainly so with her passing in 2014. 🙏🤗

Honestly. Mavis is the Best interviewer! She gets so immersed in the interview. It's more like a simple conversation with an old friend.

I disagree. She seem to focus on killing Maya's mood & bring her spirits down, at the same time declaring her deep seated jealousy for her successes.. Maya shines though. Not a caged bird for sure.

@@tonyausten2168 I don't know if you're from the UK or not, but Mavis was a very very respected and well-known interviewer. She also interviewed people like Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Nina Simone, Bette Davis, Liz Taylor and many other incredible people. So it's doubtful that she was "jealous". Did she always get things spot on? Probably not, but when you compare her to interviewers today, it's hard not to feel that something has been lost over time.

Maya Angelou is so powerful and inspiring, and as Mavis says, magnetic. I wonder if the Oracle in The Matrix was modelled on Maya. And Mavis Nicholson was such a brilliant and authentic interviewer.

🤔This Mavis woman, the interviewer, who seems to have been a friends to Maya, seems to me like she tries to act like Barbara Walters....speaking of which....why didn’t Barbara Walters ever interview Maya Angelou (or did she? Maybe I missed it) 🤔
