I just replaced the belt on my dryer that came with the house. I think the belt on it may be a size too large since it did what yours does when I put it into the grove. However if it's placed on the drum about 1/2 inch outside the groove it fits like the previous one did. I've still got a squeal but I'm gonna try lubing/check the rollers and maybe replace the drum glides next paycheck since it didn't squeal when empty.

It is important to note that the belt does not go in the groove of the drum, but rather should be 2-3 inches in front of the groove on the flat part of the drum.

RepairClinic.com also the idler pulley has a flat edge on it that should face out when putting new pulley on. That's not mentioned either.

Thank you for the comment about the groove! The belt was scraping against the guide and we couldn't figure out why. We properly placed the belt NOT in the groove, and it works perfectly now!

This is an excellent video! But the only thing to make it better, is why would someone need to replace the idler pulley and how you can tell when it's bad/broken?

Because it will be very loud and obvious that something is wrong. In fact, the machine may still function for a while, but other parts will become damaged, such as the idler arm, if you don't fix the easy repair immediately.

I need to replace the motor on the exact dyer that is in this video I changed the belt a couple years ago and it was rather easy but the motor seems more complicated it has a hard time starting and then it goes for 5 minutes and shuts down it also smells a little and make a screeching noise while it runs

I put the belt as instructed in this video, but the belt leaves too much slack & rubs between the back sides of the belt from the drum & the motor pulley. Also, from the metal bracket on the idler pulley. The number from the old belt matches the one. Any ideas why it rubs?

My idler pulley bracket has a lot of play where the sheet metal screw holds the bracket to the metal tab in front of the motor is it supposed to have a lot of play from the front of the motor to the back side of the dryer?

I noticed that the washer for the idle pulley wheel makes it very loose from left to right on these Maytags, at least the dependable care one I currently have. Should it be tighter? I noticed it wiggle in the video just the like one I am working on right now. I replaced the maytag washer with a standard washer to make it tight. What are your thoughts on that?

If your just replacing the Idler Pulley, You do not have to pull the front off the dryer. There is a access panel in back you can remove to replace the Idler Pulley.

Most dryers are in confined spaces with no room to work behind them. So you'd have to slide the whole dryer forward far enough to get behind it (if you even have enough space in your laundry room to do it). Disconnect the vent and disconnect the gas line if there's not enough slack. Then reconnect them again when you put the dryer back and a lot of dryer vents can be a huge pain to line back up to reconnect if you can't get your hands back there. Trust me. It's a whole lot easier working from the front of the dryer.

@@soyouknow9951 What lubricant is used on the pulley shaft? grease or oil? also same question for the wheels where the drum rest in the back oil or grease to lubricate the shaft? in the video he did not say what to use. Thank you

On our Maytag Ensignia QS 200, the drum isn't rolling when clothes are inside but does roll without clothes. Any suggestions ?

The belt could be stretched and slipping or the rollers or idler pulley may be binding and causing the drum to turn hard. The only way to know for sure is to take the machine apart and inspect the parts. *None. Roller shafts & idler pulley shaft are kept dry to prevent lint build-up and premature part failure.

I've seen videos where the flat side of the belt goes outside with the grove (ribbed) part on the inside, grabbing the drum. This video, like others, shows the opposite. Which is it?

You are absolutely correct, and yes, this is confusing. However, this is why you need to study these videos and watch more than one, as some will leave out this important fact. I could be wrong, but this style idler puller arm (WP6-3033630) always has the ribbed side out and the smooth side against the drum.

Probably means flat side (not grooved side) of belt against drum.

Wait a second, I thought Maytags never broke down and their repair men just sat around cracking nuts with their tools. Times sure have changed for the worse.

When I took off the old roller, the washer was on the inside, not next to the c-clip. After I put it back together that way, it squeaks constantly, instead of just a bit at the start like it used to. So I went back and looked that this video again, and the washer is supposed to go next to the c-clip. Weird that there isn't a washer in both places, I guess. Fingers crossed that this works...

You may not have realized this, but there are 2 (two) carbon washers involved in the replacement of the idler pulley (white wheel). They will be on each side of the wheel. Make sure you don't lose these, as they cost about $10 each. You may not have replaced one or both of these washers, resulting in squeaking.

@@markw4692 it’s been too long now, I can’t remember. The dryer rumbles more than it used to, but there’s no squeaking, so I’ve been Ok with it.

This video does not emphasize that the idler pulley (white wheel) must be placed flat side against the metal bracket, and there will be 2 carbon fiber washers on either side of the wheel, with an e-ring on the outside of course. Again, there is only one way to apply the white wheel onto the shaft of the idler arm.

Repair clinic: none of your videos shows the problem. And to somebody who isn't an expert, it's important to know what your buying & fixing (with any luck) is going to fix the problem. For example: A certain noise replicated. Otherwise we're fixing something not broken.
