I'm working on my 1988 Maytag LDE512 very similar to this one. Very easy to work on and they sure don't make them like they used to.

You can access the idler pulley thru the small access panel in the REAR of these dryers also. Just remove the 4 screws and metal panel to reveal the idler pulley system and provides easier access to this repair. These machines are fun and rewarding to keep running.

This design was around from 1976-2006. Commercial use began in 1972. Not a bad run.

What lubricant is used on the shaft of the idler pulley?

You make it look so easy but I can't get the belt over the idler pulley. When I finally did the belt fell off the drum.

Then I got it back onto the drum and it fell off the pulley. This is so frustrating.

The belt is not long enough even though it is correct for my model.

There is a smaller access panel in the REAR of these Maytag dryers located right at the idler pulley. Unscrew the 4 screws and remove the metal panel. Now you can see the belt and loop configuration more easily, and also remove the pulley wheel easier. Hope this helps. These machines are fun to work on and very reliable.
