@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel One thing I would highly recommend is using cut resistant gloves of some kind. Those metal edges inside older dryers is often sharp enough to cut by the weight of the object across your fingers.

It's ridiculous how helpful this was. This was VERY much appreciated! One of the support wheels on my dryer was obliterated, so this was exactly the fix I needed. The only problem I had was getting the front panel disconnected like you showed, so my fix was to disconnect the cables at the bottom right. I just had my wife hold the thing while I changed out the wheels. She got over it.

Awesome, helped me considerably in taking my machine apart properly. One support roller was shot, but changed them all, along with idler pulley. Belt was literally threads, but still hanging in there. The entire inside was coated in shredded belt fibers..........Really appreciate people like whim take the time to do these videos and post them.

I have a Maytag Series 5000 Dryer. Since I couldn’t find a video for the 5000 Series I used your video as a guide. While it wasn’t exactly the same or quite as easy as your video, I was able to do it because of your video. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Thank you for this video. The accomplishment I felt by repairing my old dryer and saving myself about $500 on a repair bill was amazing. Took me about 2 hours to do, but that's with smoke breaks.

Well...... Add me to the list of believers! I ordered the tuneup pack from amazon (20 bucks) and I am glad I did. My support wheels were fine but my idler wheel was SHOT! I replaced all 5 wheels and belt. She's purrin like a kitten!!!!!! My wife is happy, I am happy!

I can't thank you enough for your video and tutorial on how to fix the squeaking. I am not handy at all and was able to fix the dryer!! I went from believing that I need to buy a brand new dryer for $800(probably more), to fixing dryer for $25 in parts. More importantly, I feel awesome! Hey bud I cannot thank you enough for this video. A service call would have been $120.00 plus parts. I got the kit off Amazon for 15 bucks came with 6:50 idler wheel ,support rollers and belt. Took about 1 hr 15 mins… saved me over 100 bucks… thanks again bud….

Thanks for a great walkthrough. Worked like a charm. Some notes for others who might have a slightly different model - 1. the user interface panel on the front in my model had two plastic tabs on the inside of the unit that needed to be pushed outward to disengage with the frame, then there are two more plastic tabs on the top near the corners of the interface panel - a larger slotted screwdriver slipped in and twisted disengaged them (they were a pain to find). 2. the metal brace above the drum (that the interface panel hides) is removed with two screws left and right front, before you can remove the door panel (at least in my case). 3. Be careful about the replacement wheels you order, mine were all the wrong size but the belt worked. I cleaned and re-greased the 4 support wheels (red/black) and the white idler wheel. Squeak gone :) Took about 3 hours start to finish as I did some cleaning and had to figure out the plastic latches on the front interface. Much appreciated for the video Scott!

thanks for posting this video, it allowed me to fix my squealing Maytag 5000 series dryer. i only had a slight panic attack getting the belt back on motor and tension pully, i had a bunch of slack, then i figured out that i had the incorrect configuration. and like other posted, i also disconnected the wire harness on the bottom right because my dryer is on a pedestal. in addition, i got the parts from Amazon as well.

Bought kit on amazon to replace rollers and wheels and loved the detail in here. I ended up taking apart the entire dryer cabinet for experience and so the wife could it. Thought i put it together wrong when it was running nearly silently when finally reassembled. Great video. Disconnected the control panels electrical was the hardest part, as the plugs wouldnt separate with a flat head.

Awesome video. Took our dryer which was making a racket. Wasn't squeaking but sort of clunking along. I also replaced the heating element while I was in there and cleaned it all out. Probably saved a ton. $60 wheels + belt and heating element on Amazon for $60.

I have the Maytag Ymed3500fw0 model and this video while not exact, did help me ALOT. I ordered the repair kit from amazon for my model and installed it yesterday in about an hour. The replacement wheels fit a little tight so i was concerned about the drum spinning. Replaced the idler pulley and the drive belt as well. Ive run 2 loads through the dryer now and it seems to be working with no squeling. Fingers crossed its fixed and I was able to save myself $300+ with a service reapir tech.

This was very helpful. My only criticism is that he didn't explain how to set the belt up on the motor pulley and idler again. It took me a bit to get that right. Otherwise, really helpful.

Thanks Scott. Took me all day to get it apart but it did help a lot. One hour trying to get a single bent screw out lol. Ugh. Questions though. How do you know if the drum roller shaft needs replacing? Also, no grease huh? Guess it would clog up pretty quickly given what the inside looked like? And last, after 8 years should I see fairly significant lint throughout the inside/should I replace foam gaskets all around? Thanks much.

Used this for Maytag MEDE300VW1 and it worked great. Small difference in wiring between my electric and the gas version in the video but it made sense.

@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel also lots of the reviews on Amazon for the idle wheels say they are too tight for the shaft. I had this problem as well but fixed it by running the smooth part of a large drill bit around the inside of the new idle wheel for a minute and after that it slid on and would spin.

Sounds like it isn’t getting enough water during fill. I would replace the intake valve

I have a nearly 30yo maytag dryer which has worked perfectly until now. Will the process be the same vs. all these new electronic ones. My control panel is manual knobs at top back of the dryer.

Thank you for the awesome video! However, my Maytag 5000 series dryer seems to have caps on the end of the shafts that the dryer rollers are on. I removed the plastic triangle piece, but the rollers will not slide off. Do you have instructions or suggestions for this?

Can you put some oil on those shafts, and wiggle and pull toward you? They’re just stuck and need some force👍

At least as of today's date, the dryer repair kit at the link in your notes is unavailable. Amazon says they don't know when it will be back in stock. 😞Hoping to find maybe just the support wheels and idler wheel by themselves.

Hi Scott, I fixed the squealing, but now getting an error code of L2, cleared that and now it turns on, burner comes on and then get a F22 code and it shuts off. We were missing some of the sealant foam around the blower wheel, so fixed that, but still getting F22 code. Any suggestions.

I’m shocked at how closely this construction resembles the Whirlpool Duet Steam Sport which I just replaced with a set of this 5000 series. I’ve disassembled and reassembled that dryer at least 10 times throughout it’s life but our last set of power surges fried so many wire connections that I called a time of death officially. Haha! I will say to be careful with greasing the rollers and pulley. Mostly because any lint free floating gum it up quicker and the friction can melt the plastic pieces. Sometimes all you need to replace is the little plastic but that holds the wheel on. I haven’t seen your newer videos but I hope you have stopped using the head cam as this can make it difficult for people to see the direction you’re working on. :) It’s also always a good idea to inspect everything and vacuum out any dirt or debris while you’re in there.
