Anna flew away and brought home a spruce branch.
Then she started feeding the little ones. The second born got first.
The older pecked a little. But I think that's normal sibling rivalry. It was not an aggression. We have to wait and see what happens next.

I was hoping the littlest would get a little bit more to eat. Mom tried, but of course the sibling wasn't happy with that 😪 I also hope the little cutie can make it. Like you said we will wait to see. 🤞 Thank you for sharing liznm 🌷 ❤️🦅🐥🐤🦅❤️

Thank you for the capture of the video. The mother is quite persisting to feed the youngest which I normally don’t see it very often from watching birds of prey.

Its wonderful to see mom feeding her children but soon she will teach them to fend for themselves and the cycle will continue

likely they were born too far apart not to forget; can the parents provide prey for two? I know she is behaving as she would with any young but rivalry on these nests is serious.

Jane, In this case it doesn't matter how much feed is brought. The chicks' genes are programmed to kill their siblings. We were lucky not to see a fight. This is called cainism. It also happens to golden eagles, black eagles and greater spotted eagles. In only 5% the second chick survive.

liznm wow! I didn’t realize really all of them...! but then I’ve seen it before. on the WTSE nest. also at GS Bluff the GH owl got both offspring this year. just nature though.

That is on purpose. The 2nd egg is smaller. all power is given to the first egg and the first chick. A second chick is only if the first egg is not fertilized.
