Hello viewers, Hope you all are well. I've got sometime to install this new part. As we all now these skyactiv direct injection engines produce a carbon build up on the intake valves. There's no 100% solution that we can do other than to REDUCE the amount of carbon build up or else to trade in the whole car ??. So todays project is to install the Oil catch can kit to the PCV side to slow down the carbon build up from occuring to this Mazda CX 5 Skyactiv engine. Left hand drive owners have to find another mounting location for the Oil catch can.
Parts:
Universal 2 ports baffled Oil Catch Can.
Modified line fitting to elbow shaped.
Custom mounting bracket.
Fuel / Oil hose line (1/2" - 3/8")
** I used 1/2" OD 20mm , ID 12mm **
match the diameter of your line fitting
Intake Manifold gasket If replacing
(Mazda part# PE01-13-111)

I installed a catch can a while ago on my Mazda 3, there are kits but they had the hoses running all way round engine bay. Glad to see you installed exactly as I had. Worth checking the hoses behind the manifold in a bit as the rubber on mine relaxed and started leaking a little on PCV side.

2017 and up, the catch can is built into the PCV valve assembly. Look in the service manual. The oil drips into a baffle plate, then returns to the oil pan. Mazda already figured it out.

13:05 This would be a good location to put in a T-junction for valve cleaning. The down part of the T branches to the catch can, the top part connects a cleanout port with the intake manifold. The cleanout port should have a straight shot into the intake manifold without a bend. Use the cleanout port to shoot in your favorite GDI cleaners such as CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve Cleaner or Seafoam. Do the cleaning before each oil change and that may keep your valves clean. Cap the cleanout port after shooting the cleaner to prevent vacuum leaks.

Surely the point is to prevent oil vapour getting into the inlet manifold, the way it's done on tuned old school Ford engines is to block off the hose to the inlet manifold and then run the the hose our of the catch can into a small air filter low down in the engine bay, known as "venting to atmosphere", which is technically an emissions violation, but not actually tested by anyone anywhere.

Hi, so I followed your other video on cleaning intake valves. Great video it helped me a lot I replaced the pvc valve with a new one and added a oil catch can on my 2016 Mazda CX-3 at 68k. The catch can has baffles, I paid almost 400 usd with shipping, My question is, how long, how many km before I start to see oil collected? Keep the videos coming 👍

I would probably fit the oil catch can to the right side somewhere in between the battery and head lamp. I'm getting old and stretching all the way back to the firewall to work on something gives me a pain in the back. Especially if you'll need to check the oil catch can periodically.

Hehe , Yeah definately possible to mount near by the battery / air intake area for easier access. Otherwise with mine one its just sometimes a pain to get to due to minimal working space.

Thank you for uploading the video. I am in the process of installing a catch can on my CX9, 2.5 turbo. I noticed the inlet on the intake manifold is the same. Not sure about PVC outlet. Please let us know how much oil you capture in the can. I have 53kilo on my CX9 already.

Hi Felix, sorry again for one more question because I am plan to install OCC to my '21 cx5 so I would ask the expert like you to make sure I will do it correctly because I have never done it myself. Is it correct that you connected input(occ) to pcv and output(occ)to air intake manifold? In order to do that you have to took out factory tube that came connected from pcv to air intake manifold? Lastly, there is no other tubes that left open that needs to plug it or seal in close? Thank you very much :) I am appreciate you advice!

Hi, May I ask you...Do you know if your engine size vs. 2021 cx5 2.5 cc. NA (I have 2021 NA)are the same layout? Also am I correct that you connected input(occ) to pcv and output(occ)to air intake manifold? Yes it is still the same layout for the 2021 engine.

What about that last hose that goes to the Top of the Intake hose by thr throttle body? Wouldn't oil go through there as well?

That has its own catch seperator so we dont need it.

Great video I have a few questions (my tb is at the front in mine 2.2d . Firstly where did you get the torque specs from ? (A manual maybe ? If so which one ) . 2nd what was it running like before you done the intake clean? I have so much more to remove as my air intake goes to the turbo which is cooled then the tb/intake . Great mode many say its a good thing and I'm sure my pcv (which I'm guessing it's connected to - not taken all video in yet due to kids lol) I'm sure my pcv is at the rear left of the exhaust pressure sensor

Its located inside the transmission drain pan control valve body. Theres transmission oil pressure sensor A and B.

isn t it easier to connect the oil catch can inbetween the hose that you detached first ? the one on the top that connects the camshaft cover to the intake ?

so in this video we r installing OCT kit to prevent carbon build ups within the intake. If you were to attach OCT kit to the rocker cover breather hose it would rather do things differently maybe cleaner TB port instead of preventing the intake valves from carbon build up.

i just checked i caught about 10ml. just done about 3500kms since the install. not many . i found a small leak on my fitting had to retighten it. i will do another post once reach to 5000ks for my next service. :) stay tune.

you should try installing one as i was surprised what i caught there, i just did another basic service after 5000kms ive collected a good amount approx 60 ml to 70ml of oil.

Yes the one for the pcv line can use smaller hose 3/8 , the intake valves use the bigger hose 1/2.

@@xdejablu3x or you can find small piece of reducer tube from 3/8 to 1/2 just attach small piece of tube coming from the pcv then add the reducer to it the use 1/2 hose up top.

@@FelixDanGarasiAuto I'd have to buy a 1/2 hose regardless because I currently have only two 3/8 hoses on hand. I'll keep it in mind though for future projects. I'm just going to return the hose for a 1/2. I never ran a oil catch can with two different hose sizes before. Hopefully no issues arise with pressure on two different hoses.

fungsi dari OCT hanya memperlambat kerak karbon dari mesin direct injection. Tidak memperbaiki kebersihkan pembakaran pada mesin.

it is a very good reliable car for me. Fuel economy. Very zippy. i would rate 8 out of 10. Engine and transmission is very good.

what about crankcase pressure? aren’t you worried about building it up and the gases escaping from somewhere else or worse, mixing with the oil?

nope not possible. The PCV system allows for cleaner exhaust, prevents blowby at seals and gaskets, removes crankcase gasses generated by the combustion process that will sludge up and destroy the engine if left unchecked, and allows the engine to run more efficiently thus creating better fuel mileage.

@@taichihead42 very much identical. Well many users also dont mind not having oil catch can added to their car which is fine. Just use a good fuel and service your car regularly with good engine oil will be just fine. But if you want to add one like on this video you can do it too so you get a peace of mind that the intake valves are not caked up with carbons as before without oil catch can.

1:33 why did you need to modify the fittings? I thought the fittings that came with the can is dia 1/2"? What's the ID of stock hose?

I had to modify the fitting to elbow due to it is hitting the battery and some part of the engine. The id of the stock fitting is 12.9mm.

i just checked and im surprised it collect some oils within the catch can. :) i can confirm it is working as it should be. i Will do a follow up video for us.

@@oktaviowibisono8379 bisa potong sedikit 2cm selang yg aga kecil diameternya buat nge ganjel adapter di pcv valve nya. Jadi pas masuki selang 0.5 inch bisa di clamp dengan padat. Soalnya memang aga kecil ukuran pcv valvenya. 2500 cc sama pcv nya sperti 2000 cc.

i dont think this is the proper way to do it, the catch can is suppose to be lower than the pcv valve, i know this because i have catch can on my mazda 3 and bmw and it science that the the oil in the pcv cannot travel upwards

mine is fine n works it catches some oil in it will show you very soon on my next video. but if u want to install it lower area you can.
