my first saw I bought off a smoke jumper was a D30, back in the early 70's. I used it for a few years, to about 1981 I think and then got a Homelite SXL AO and it was a super upgrade. THe old Mac ran good, no problems there, and it had plenty of power, but that starter set up was a fight all the time, it wanted to drag and I had bought several replacement red nylon gears, they wore so fast it was not funny. The Homelite was the start of newer saws, then came some Jonsereds and the old Mac got pitched. Wish now I had kept it, because I am collecting and restoring vintage saws. Far as I know they had only one year of production on the D30, not a popular design.

Like most McCulloch saws they were all one year. The d30, though good intentions on trying to be innovative with the auto oiler and gear reduction starter, a little more time was needed on the auto oiler and the gear reduction starter was a complete miss lol. If my starter fails, I'll get a starter feom a 1-40 or 1-50 and convert it to left side start.

My old mcculloch is a two man model 1225a and it's in excellent condition and complete with bar ,chain,and also the helper handle

Yeah ,this is one of my favorite saws that I own,I am sure with some carb work this saw will run,has great compression and strong spark,I will have to view your videos and give it a try ,thanks again for such great vid

Thanks for posting this saw. I have a D30 but it does not have the oiler, they must not of ever took it back to get the oiler added after the recall. I would be curious to see how you do the "in the tank fuel line and filter". I just went to napa and grabbed a fuel line and filter. It works but I'm sure it is way to rigid and wouldn't work for felling etc with the saw on its side. Thanks for the link, I will be ordering me a gasket.

I just slide a tygon line on the barb fitting in the tank and put my own pickup on the end. Needle nose pliers set of cutters and 2 minutes tops
