Had this happen on an electric cable replacement before. They kept telling me that I was wrong even after showing them that that's where my equipment was telling me it was and I just told him it's probably just really freaking deep. My receiver said it was 12 ft deep.

What I've noticed among experienced locators is that some struggle because they don't fully grasp or trust their equipment, leading to frequent challenges and damages. That's why radiodetection has made significant advancements, upgrading their equipment to enhance reliability in accurately identifying cable paths.

@@811chicago5 they eventually dug down deep enough and found it. It was 10 foot deep and they just bored right over it.

What about sonding the damn MCI line, is it an option for you? I do it all the time, better safe than sorry. Past on the responsibility. Every equipment comes with its limitations. DON’T KNOW WHY THESE BORE CONTRACTORS HAVE TO GO SO DEEP !!! no respect for us that come behind them to locate . Also that end to end ground NOT being present make a lot difficult to perform a quality locate. Happy locating ✌️

I'm going to talk to MCI about this problem and figure out what they want to do. Since the fiber is pretty old, I'll check with them to see if it's still in use or not. Thanks!

Many contractors realize that just seeing dots out here doesn't convey much information. Most of them understand that our goal is to precisely locate the cables. For these contractors with questions of the dots usually re-call 811 for a follow-up visit.
