New 720S Spider, McLaren's most successful convertible supercar, combining the thrill of outdoor driving with dynamic performance unmatched in the Super Series
Lightweight, stiff and extremely strong Monocage II-S carbon fiber core with Integrated Rollover Protection Structure (ROPS); does not need additional reinforcement compared to the Coupé
Custom carbon fiber body structure and new retractable hardtop (RHT) support the lightest dry weight of 1,332 kg - the lightest in its class at 88 kg less than its dry weight. closest competitor and only 49 kg more than the 720S Coupé
Unparalleled visibility thanks to unique glazed flying buttresses which also accentuate the aerodynamic purity of the design and increase downforce
The patented roof system is electrically operated and offers the fastest run time in the supercar class, lowering or rising in 11 seconds at speeds up to 50 km / h (31 mph)
The retractable hardtop is available glazed with an electrochromic glass panel that can quickly switch between tinted and clear states
The 4.0-liter McLaren twin-turbo V8 engine produces 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque, with a power-to-weight ratio for the 720S Spider at the lightest dry weight of 540 hp / ton
Acceleration 0-100 km / h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds - identical to the 720S Coupé; 0-200 km / h 7.9 seconds; top speed roof raised 341 km / h (212 mph) - lowered 325 km / h (202 mph)
Active aerodynamics of the rear spoiler automatically adjusted for closed-roof or open-roof driving
Active Dynamics panel allows drivers to select Comfort, Sport or Track modes, transforming the 720S Spider from a luxury touring car to an exhilarating driving machine
The optimized Proactive Chassis Control II (PCC II) suspension guarantees the same range of dynamic capabilities displayed by the Coupé
Luxuriously appointed cabin features beautiful materials including nappa leather, ensuring the driver appreciates the interior ambience as much as the thrilling driving experience
“The new McLaren 720S Spider offers an unmatched blend of extreme performance, engineered luxury, driver involvement and everyday usability, all with the added euphoria of outdoor driving whenever needed. As the most accomplished convertible supercar of all time, the new Spider delivers a remarkable range of capability at exceptionally high levels, and as the lightest in its class with an increase of just 49kg over the 720S Coupé, puts us even further ahead of our competitors in terms of weight. race."
The design foundations of the new McLaren 720S Spider are shared with the 720S Coupé, with the organic shapes that make up the second-generation McLaren Super Series combine to maximize downforce, minimize drag, improve powertrain cooling, and optimize aerodynamic balance.
For the new Spider, a new Power Retractable Hardtop (RHT) and new buttresses have been seamlessly integrated into the design. Like all McLaren cars, the 720S Spider has a carbon fiber core, in this case referred to as Monocage II-S. The strength, rigidity and lightness of the structure are the basis of the dynamic excellence for which McLarens is renowned; the Monocage II-S is a development of the Monocage II of the Coupé, without the central front-to-rear “spine” above the cabin and with the rearmost part of the upper structure also unique , to accommodate the retractable hardtop.
Comfortably the lightest car in its competitive lineup, with a lightest dry weight of 1,332 kg - 88 kg less than the 1,420 kg dry weight of its closest rival - the new 720S Spider is also more lighter than 9 kg than the first generation Super Series 650S Spider, as well as having improved refinement. The new Spider weighs just 49kg - or less than 4% - above the 720S Coupé, the difference mostly associated with the RHT and tonneau system. The low weight and astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 540 hp per ton (compared to 485 hp for the 650S Spider) are the basis of the dynamics, performance and efficiency advantages enjoyed by McLaren car owners. .
