I am so pleased to have met you at the Strongsville show and everyone that I met at the get together was awesome. Great conversations about what we all enjoy talking about and great times were had. Love your 49 Bowman Jackie and I am also partial to your 63 Fleer Mays , thanks for sharing Mike.

Great story on the Mays and great advice. Take the money and buy something else you like, that’s what I do.

Exactly! Those who bought in 2020 when they should have been selling are most likely under water. Take the loss and go buy something else to make it back

The greatest pick-up in all of that was the lovely note from Drew. What a lovely, heart-felt, note. Also, the kind gesture of the signed card that accompanied it! Added to that, the thoughtful gift from Randy. Top-draw, gentlemen! Forgive my sentimentality, but despite all the bad in the World, let there be people in the World who are a shining light. Let this light shine bright. Happy collecting everyone, and thank you for your content, Mike. 🙏

Nice pickup Mike. The checklist might be the toughest card to get in the set. I like the 1963 Fleer set. Small set with some great players. I purchased the Mays a couple of years ago and would like to get the Koufax next. Thanks for sharing Mike. I believe you to be a down to earth guy and we collectors are very lucky to have you in the hobby. Take care.

Hey mike, nice Willie! I agree, the 63 fleer set is a very cool set. Nice hall of famers. Good deal on it too. Negotiating as you know can be annoying but it is what comes out of it for your benefit.

@BaseballCollector, I also have one 1968 Topps baseball card. As soon as you told that story, I instantly thought that I probably have one or two 1968 cards. Mine is #104 Dick Dietz. OK condition, nothing special, but I'm happy to send it your way if you need it for the set. Set building was always a passion as a kid, too bad that was late 80's baseball!

Thanks for that, but I already have that one.

Nice Fleer Willie. I'm a fan of that set, even though I don't have any yet. I like the Fleer Koufax more than the '63 Topps.

@mikethesportshistorycollec19472 ай бұрын
I'm still not sure why a lot of dealers don't understand the basic principle of not sitting on inventory. Obviously you don't want to always take a loss, but sometimes you invest too much in a card and by sitting on it, you're missing out on putting money back in to other cards that will go up or have a bigger profit margin all together. Oh well, nice card and good price, Mike.

Taking a loss on a Willie freakin Mays card! Ouch. If you're losing on the one of the greatest players of all time, you might need to rethink things, if selling is your goal. Nice stories and pickups Mike! Looking forward to hearing you and Andy talk about the pros and cons of Strongsville.

Also, I'm sure the dealers frown upon customers buying from someone other than a show dealer. Would have been a 150 foot walk and do the deal in the lobby. CLASSY

"cash reallocation" ... my kind of fancy talk. But I'm confused. If you saw others for less in the same grade, why did you get this one and pay more ? This one is pretty off centered. How worse off were the others ?

I misspoke. They were less but in a lower grade. I saw 5s and 4s for cheaper.
