I'm loving watching this journey from both you and Chris's perspective. The fact that you work well together makes it even better! My grail card will be any Jackie Robinson from the 1950s. Owning that piece of history will be so amazing one day. Glad to see you are documenting this for me to follow. Thank you!

Amazing progress Mike! In my opinion it is a special kind of collection that allows this type of progress and based on the cards I have seen in the multiple videos, this was a very special collection. I would also think the purchase price was a key factor in the overall success, as well as the hard work both you and Chris are putting into this. Congrats my friend, well deserved.

You're damn right it's been hard to believe it's been a month! That has FLOWN by, Mike! As always, I really appreciate your transparency with all with us, thank you. Definitely difficult, as a collector, to juggle the financial return Vs. 'I want this for my own collection' dilemma. Given that you've got c. 75% of your money back within the last month, it seems that you've done a very good job of appeasing both sides... and with plenty of room for making a healthy profit, and keeping big-ticket cards for your own collection. You and Chris have obviously crunched the numbers, but after keeping what you're both keeping, where do you hope to be at the end? 50% profit? Double money, after keeping items for your collection? Or is there room for even more profit? Of course, you don't have to share this, it just would be good to see how you're tracking along the way. In any case, I'm cheering you and Chris both on through this. Best of luck. 👍

Mike that’s outstanding! So glad you guys got to work together and things really worked out. I’m still interested in seeing if you or perhaps John would have any 65 Topps Baseball for sale. I’ve been working on this set for a few years and want to finish. Most of the set is EX/MT with around 20% VG/EX. I need 172 cards including the Mantle. Let me know if I send a list that you guys may be able to help. Thanks brother

Must have been agonizing to sell the Ruth's but totally get doing that to recoup your cost in. I couldn't get Sewallmmo to work - but did find the link to his normal eBay account from his channel. Wow... going exclusively with PSA was an "interesting" choice. Hope you are happy with their endless wait times and sloppiness of assigning grades. Hopefully the randomly-assigned PSA grader was in a good mood on the day he reviewed your cards. Best of luck.
@robertlanham7830Ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly. PSA is a crap shoot and often times a clown show when it comes to grading vintage. Not only do I personally prefer the look of vintage cards in the SGC Tux, but their vintage grading is light years more accurate and consistent.

what about the cost to go purchase the collection and the cost of the Strongsville trip ? What does that add up to ?

I was going to Strongsville either way so that does not factor in. When I travelled to Philly, I used miles for the airfare and stayed with John so no real costs there. I appreciate your concern for the details.
@CVMGAMАй бұрын
@@BaseballCollector I've asked a couple of other guys the same question, as the little things add up when you travel. You had mentioned adding in the cost for supplies, so I asked out of curiosity, not that I thought it would really hurt your cost average.

Not sure what the rush was to sell the Ruth's, considering they were on your want list, and you'll only have to pay more down the road to get them back. Not my cards, not my money, but I think we're only talking about $17K for the Ruth's ? I would have held them to the end, to see what the final numbers looked like & if there was enough profit to justify not having to put the full $80K back. Again, you're money & I don't know how important that $17K is to you.
@BaseballCollectorАй бұрын
I got close to $20k for those two cards. It mattered.
@CVMGAMАй бұрын
@@BaseballCollector I never really had interest in these older cards, but nowadays it seems I put a pile of 2-3 modern fodder cards like a Mattingly Donruss PSA 10 and other similar cards from my collection & walk away with something far more significant, regardless of the grade. I would have considered moving out some of my cards to keep the Ruth's. Again, just my opinion, on this day. It's just hobby talk, right ?

@@victorfrankenstein50202 No, I don't believe so. I think the theme is terminology used by card geeks to express scarcity, rarity, one of a kind, hard to find, etc. "Pick-ups" can be easily confused with nappy hoes on 8 mile road.
