Dreamcast File #70 sees the Sega console get what is maybe it's first truly great shooting game: MDK2, a sequel with an impressive pedigree, both for the team at Shiny Entertainment, the creators of the original MDK and the EARTHWORM JIM series, and the up-and-coming team at Bioware, who took on the mantle of expanding the wacky '90s humor and sharp, vivid combat of the first MDK, and didn't get the benefit of the doubt because BALDUR'S GATE had yet to release.

Loved this game! And the demo…was awesome! It was included on one of the DC demo disks. Three full levels.

For as many forward-looking features the DC delivered, a twin-stick controller should have been one. C'est la vie!

i have thought about this game every day since i played the demo. i still listen to the music, i drew Kurt 2 days ago, my license plate says MDK 909 (that MUSIC!)... much appreciation!

Thank you for helping make this great game. I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 and I would put MDK2 in my top 5 games ever made. Everything in it worked so great. If I was a billionaire I would fund MDK3

Loving the series despite never owning any Sega machine, I was on the big N yard on the 90s before the PC master race attacked ;) Hopefully the algorithm will catch up, cheers! 🎉

Thank you friend! I never had a Dreamcast either, it was NES-SNES-N64, then a short stint with a PS1 and a long stint with a PS2, part of why I wanted to do this was because I never had one and I was interested! I appreciate the well-wishes, thanks for watching!

Honestly never realized BioWare was involved in this one, very interesting as I’ve been playing through mass effect recently and seeing how it is the culmination of a lot of BioWares work up to that point

I never understood why the controls were backwards in MDK 2, with no option to switch it, on Dreamcast. Just, why?? lol Nobody wants to move with A, B. X & Y. and aim with the left stick Thats why i play it on an emulator, so i can map the face buttons to an analog stick for movement, and aim to a right stick

Surprisingly I had no trouble with the controls, but that’s a fun idea for emulation! Just map it to make it a twin stick! Neat!

@@SchmidGame yeah it works great! Same with Fur Fighters. But yeah I mean I did get used to the controls back in the day and still played the hell out of those games lol, but would've been nice to have the option. I feel like that Saturn Pro controller that just came out recently: That should've been the Dreamcast controller (Although the Pro Controller has some issues at the moment; just the design itself, that would've made for a perfect Dreamcast controller)

I didn't have issues with the controls as long as I didn't play anything else. I had to stick to MDK2 until I finished it because my brain would have to readjust every time I came back to it.

@@funnymcfunfuns1455 yeah I hear ya, but at the same time: that's my whole point lol. Nowadays I just play it via ReDream (with an Xbox Series controller), and map A B X & Y to the left analog stick; and map the left stick to the right stick, and: voila. Good to go But yeah like back when Quake 3 came out on Dreamcast, as frustrating as the backwards controls were at first.. that didn't stop me from just getting used to it and having a hell of a good time playing online matches! lol

I kinda liked the first MDK for PC, but I couldn't get into this sequel. It received so many 9/10 marks at the time. But I think it is both a bit boring and frustrating at the same time. 6/10

Yeah I was surprised how well it worked for me, and grateful because I’ve been so underwhelmed in the action/shooter genre so far.
