I grew up on a farm. One of the more onerous tasks we had to perform every year was clearing the fields of fist sized and bigger rocks. This was to prevent damage to our machinery. Anything smaller than approximate fist size would just harmlessly pass through. The reason I'm saying this, is because I remember multiple times as a young teenager picking up a cluster of stones and throwing them in the carrier to be hauled away. Then I'd look down and notice a smaller rock that had just "lost its friends." Cue me throwing that rock in too when my dad wasn't looking. I'm not sure what to call it. Intrusive empathy, maybe?

Right? I love it, although it's a little scary. As a kid, I'd get so absorbed into a book that I couldn't hear people talking to me, unless they said my name. And even then, I'd look up, but more than half my brain was being sucked back into the story. It was a little scary, especially when I considered the possibility of a never ending book. I was released at the end of each book, but what if I were trapped... FOREVER!? And then I read the "never-ending story" and was pleasantly horrified that I wasn't the only one to have this thought!

Literally, as long you aren't spending more than you can afford who cares? The internet is wild with those videos like "ohhh I'm a gifted kid burnout I quit things all the time if I'm not good at them" oe "I do hobbies for only a little bit then move onto something new" like my brothers in christ, that is normal behaviour for everyone. You maybe get into something a bit more than a neurotypical but we all like new stuff and trying new things😅 the. I swear the people who pick one hobby and stick with it and never do anything else are usually neurodivergent people who just happen to have a more productive hyperfixation tendency. Like are you really gonna live maybe 80 or 90 years and not try everything you can??

Ugh, what I wouldn’t give for a family member to understand ADHD. 😂 I’ve always gotten shit from my family (especially my dad) for not “sticking with something.” Then they didn’t want to invest in my passions because “I’ll just drop it anyways.” So then, I stopped trying things as a teen. Now, I’m 34 and am trying to reignite my cyclical passions again. It’s fun to have a hobby of hobby shopping. 😊 I don’t have to stick with anything if I don’t want to.) My dad is a one-trick pony, and only likes _one_ thing, and that’s airplanes… he’s an aerospace engineer and that’s fine, but it’s annoying that he gives everyone (in the family) shit for liking literally anything else. (Every other interest is confusing and weird, or “crazy,” to him except that. Yes, he does have a metric shit ton of unresolved childhood trauma, why do you ask? 😂😂😂😂)

@@thedarknessofnana Wow! This could damn near be my story, down to a Dad who was an aerospace engineer. When I was 9, I started taking ballet lessons. My Mother brought me to the first lesson, discovered our neighbor also took lessons, and set up that I rode to lessons with the neighbor. Approximately 4, maybe 5 lessons later, the neighbor girl was sick, and thusly didn’t go. Well, that was all the more my Mother needed. I ended up having to quit because, “well, you missed and that tells me you’re not serious, and I’m NOT shelling out money for you to waste it, goofing off and not going to class!”….never mind the fact I had no ride, and she had refused to take me. Apparently, that was somehow my fault. Uhhhhh. Now, as a Mother myself, my children have to give anything new, 1 full month…if, after that, they decide it’s not their thing…we’re on to something else.

The Bible is truth. To understand this read genesis, Mathew, and one book of the Bible you chose yourself. As you do this practice forgiveness. It's about what's in your heart, love Is the key. If there's love in your heart you forgive. The act proves the truth. To be forgiven we must forgive. Start with your parents, they've loved you, they're easiest. Look inside for the grievances we all build up there and Genuinely forgive from within. It teaches you something you can learn no other ways. You have to learn first hand by what this process does inside your soul. Please trust me. Break down before Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness today. It's not too late. God loves you. Please trust me. Jesus Christ is the way truth and life.

It's a blessing and a curse. Having hyperfixations is a big motivator for me. Im more willing to get up and feel energized when I have something to focus on, but the downside is that it doesn't transfer over to the rest of the things I need to focus on. And, when I don't have a hyperfixation, Im extremely depressed and have an even worse time focusing on other things. I can't live with em, can't live without em.

@er6730
@er6730 Жыл бұрын
I don't allow myself to buy expensive stuff for my hobbies until I see that they cycle back around. And then I choose my favourites and I move through them. When I'm into sewing, I pull out the sewing machine and the serger and go nuts! When it's not fun anymore, I put their covers on and put the cloth in some totes, and forget about it. Maybe now I'm into gardening. That's good, but I try to stand on the brakes pretty hard, and DON'T dig up more of the lawn, but instead tend what's there. And then suddenly that's not very interesting and I'm into personality types. Now it's child rearing. And we're knitting some mittens. But suddenly it's summer and I want a sun dress and I find the sewing machine again. 😅 I am lucky to have a basement, so I just keep totes of stuff down there and pull it out as needed. However, when I'm feeling in that restless mood where I'm about to get into something, I purposely steer myself into something that I already have, by looking at Pinterest. I still collect new hobbies from time to time, but mostly I rotate around my favourites.

@@er6730 Seems like you've found a system that works for you! I've just become super strict and don't allow any hobbies at all anymore. Plus is no stressful new (or old) stuff. Minus is not developing any new out-of-work skills and feeling like I'm a person with no interests. Can't win them all I guess.
