Steven Rinella and his friend Ronny Boehme drive into the mountains of southwest Montana to hunt the high ridge tops for dusky grouse. Ronny’s Bracco Italiano hunting dogs have been bred and trained for this work, but can Ronny handle the altitude? The duo prepares dusky grouse jalapeño poppers and grouse fettuccine with a white wine and cream sauce.

I use to get called that when I moved to Montana, funny thing is, it really wasn't any diffrent from hiking in the blueridge to me, just rockier and higher altitude, at times. But ironically I met alot of montanaens that couldn't keep up with me.

Dude, you ought to be able to squeeze 20 minutes of time to yourself even on a honeymoon. If you can’t get 20 minutes to yourself, how will you ever get to hunt? Set the standard early that you need time to yourself.

As an avid upland and dog guy, this was without a doubt my most favorite episode you have ever put out. I'd give a weeks pay to hunt with Ronnie. I am putting this on my bucket list of bird hunts.

I loved this episode. It reminds me of my first pheasant hunt with my dad in SW Kansas. What a big deal it was to finally get to go with Dad. Some of the best memories of my life.

He has a show called meat eater. It’s a great show. I love it. You should look it up. He has his show on this KZfaq channel. Look through his videos and watch them all. He’s added fishing series’ called “das boat” and “fur hat ice tour.” Also check out his “Back 40” series. They are all great. His narrating is definitely awesome and I love his perspective on hunting because it gave me a tangible explanation for how I feel about hunting. He was able to get me to explain and understand how I felt about hunting and feeding ones body and soul.

I love hunting dusky grouse with my German shorthairs here in Wyoming. I look for young forest and lots of open edges. Better in Sept. They start moving up into high mature forest later in October. I put bells on my dogs because bears in good bird habitat. Nice looking Braccos

Thanks to Steve I went on my first scouting trip on VA National forest land 3 days ago and I'm going back for a 3 day archery whitetail hunt and taking my .22 roger for small game after christmas. It's awesome being up in the mountains of N.America

Duskeys like an escape route. They are very often on the edge of a hill side or cliff they can use to elude predators. You'll also find them near water sources.

Great video, guys! Hunting blues is a fun slog. There is always slope to contend with, but it takes you to some pretty fine places. Hunting with dogs just makes it that much more enjoyable. They can be elusive, or they can explode from your feet in a rush of unexpected noise. They are a wee bit stupid, as you saw, thinking you can't see them. Ronny is right - they have stinky guts, but once cleaned out the meat is tasty. Looks like you had a great two days. Thanks for bringing us along.

Omg i can't believe an Italian braco love it . I'm 52 and I grew up hunting with my dad who had a braco before I was even born . She was the best bird hunting dog that existed in Chile in the early 70s . My dad later got a Brittany spaniel here in the US. Well, let's just say not even close she even retrieved ducks !

I love how Steve always cooks the wild game at the end of the video. This guy can really cook! I killed a rough grouse one time and pan fried it, it was the toughest thing I've ever tried to eat and I've never had the desire to kill another one. LOL

I grew up hunting Hooters (blue grouse) in Juneau, AK and they are still my favorite grouse to hunt and eat....... I would try to bag a couple for my Mom on Mother’s Day each year, would usually bag two or three, but on occasion I would have to thaw out some teal or mallards, lol!! It was always a tough, gritty hunt and you knew it was when you would see my. Goats hunting them!!!

i love the Bracco Italiano, have one too, straight from Genova, italy: best dogs ever. hard working, loyal but also amazing natural instincts (either as a hound or a pointer) trained mine on blood - very kid friendly

Nice way to clean it! Here in Canada we step on the wings and pull the legs, that's cleans everything nicely. All left is to get the meat that still attached to wings and you're all good!
