I am a big fan of pulley systems for some stupid reason, and I am amazed by how few people actually know how they work. What other configurations do you use? Set of fours? How about compound systems for heavy loads?

I've used a very basic method for tensioning the lowering line on the bollard. I use a nylon sling with a large pulley tied in a klemheist to the downward leg, around the bollard twice, and through the pulley. I've wanted to make a tension set for ages now, I'd like two paw rigging plates and four pulleys. But I just can't stretch to fund it for its occasional use projections. Even two DMM rig pulleys on steel o biners with one eye and eye hitch will be expensive, when we can create a system on the hoof with what we do already have. It'd just be nice to have the dedicated system in a bag ready to go 🤷‍♂️

mechanical advantages are always in odd numbers, this is indeed a 3:1

@@TreeTopVantage Look up '2:1 mechanical advantage' . Two lines between the blocks.

This is a 3:1 or a 2:1 system. It depends which way you have the system oriented. One way it's a 3:1. The other way, it's a 2:1 with a change of direction.
