In this video I go over why mechanics HATE when they have to do this. Also this is how to do a 3.6L V6 Pentastar Tune up and replace the sparl plugs. Also this is how to replace the camshaft sensors on the 3.6L Pentastar engone. Also this is how to replace your valve cover gaskets on the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine..

had to replace 3 camshafts on my ram, this should of been a recall by chrysler. The rocker arms are the primary defect.

Yes, but usually recalls are centered around safety. Technically there's nothing un-safe about the valve train making a ticking noise. But I see your point.

Hmmm. Yeah, I've heard of the good ole "3.6 tick" BUT I can honestly say I've never had that issue with my 2015 Caravan, and it's got almost 300,000kms on it! Never had any engine or transmission issues, but it's also been well looked after. I mean, I guess if the engine is idling and I open the hood and put my ear up to the engine I can hear a very SLIGHT ticking sound, but nothing earth shattering - and once you close the hood, all is quiet and it's even more quiet on the inside. I'd also like to point out that even with the high mileage, my 3.6 still doesn't burn a DROP of oil. Best engine I've ever had.

Thank you for this video. I managed to catch and repair mine last night before the cam was ruined. 400 miles on it since and all good, no more bangbangbang noise. Although for reference doing this on the 2015 Grand Cherokee required some creative use of curse words. Some brackets in nearly impossible to reach places block both covers from being removed. I plan to heat and bend a set of wrenches specifically for this issue for the next time.

@@OnlineMechanicTips I have reviewed the characteristics of the 3.6 2020, and although the valve train has been redesigned, I observe that they continue to use the same oil pump, and that is where the problem is, they have to modify this pump, because it is designed as a turbocharger, but these systems are efficient to compress gases, but not for liquids, check and analyze that pump and you will find out.

You've got some great videos. Now I'm a satisfied subscriber. I do have a question. I have a 2015 Pentastar on a Jeep Wrangler. I've installed the right (passenger) intake cam and rockers but even with the 10369 tool, I cant get the tensioner (on the exhaust side??) to release. I'm like 0.5mm from getting the phaser on anyway. Any ideas? Oh yeah btw, in my attempts, my plastic tool broke so I'm hoping I can still release the tension without the tool.
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks bud, let me answer that like this, without sounding reckless. You dealing with bank 1, there is no grenade pin style tensioner but even if it out, you still can get the phasers on and onto the cam. I never use a tool for bank 1 but I recommend everybody else do..you can put the intake phaser on then using the wrench, rotate that cam fully to the timing mark taking out slack (I'm sure you marked chain right?) Now take the exhaust phaser and wrap chain around it with markings in place. Go to place phaser/chain onto the camshaft, rotate cam using wrench as needed to install onto the cam. It should fall right in place without much effort. I have a video I'm bout to upload tonight on this very topic. But if you dont feel comfortable this way, dont do it..stay tune for that vid tonight (I hope)

@@aminjr If the cams are align, likely the crank will be..(Not by the mark, it may be on a different revolution) The important part is the arrows on the cam phasers and on the other cam phasers, the lines. Here's my question. He said once you hear the ticking noise you should replace the rocker arm right away before it destroy the camshaft. Ok. Let just said you are on a road trip to Colorado 1,780 miles, half way of the trip it start ticking. What should you do in this case? Stop right away and cancel the trip and go back home? Take it you a close by Chrysler dealership? Question that nobody answer. Is good to know, Because me and my lady we do it late at night. It suck to be on the side of the road 2 am with the hood open. Can we trust this engine from 2011-2016 for a cross country road trip? Lots of question that need a answer.
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 4 жыл бұрын
My man. theres really no way you can predict when problems of any engine/car will happen. And to be correct, I think what I was trying to say was that if you hear ticking noise (likely a rocker arm), you should get it looked at asap. If its determined that some rocker arms are at fault, then yes, go ahead and get them replaced before cam damage will occur. To me there would be no need to cut a trip short because you start to hear a tick. The early stages of a rocker arm failure will likely be 1 or 2 needle bearings coming apart. Its not etched in stone that you will eat into the camshaft. In my opinion, that take extended extended periods of continued driving with a failed rocker arm for that to happen..A 1780 mile trip to Colorado may not yield those results.

@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 3 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, thats likely because nobody ever been asked this. You making it sound complicated. The camshafts used on the 3.6 Pentastar reluctor tone wheel will likely attract powder shavings on them from wearing out rocker arms. Most mechanics simply use a clean cloth to clean all the shaving/debri off. The main concern is not to let anything magnetized come in contact with the tone wheel or they could send out the wrong signals.

@@OnlineMechanicTips Oh ok. I had a 2012 before my 2015. I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I heard Chrysler "rectified" the 3.6 tick problem in models from 2013 and beyond. Honestly, I'm not sure, but like I said earlier, I've never had any issues with my 2015 model.

WHY DID YOU NOT TAKE NEGATIVE CABLE OFF FIRST TO PREVENT SPARKING ? GUESS YOU HAVE BEEN LUCKY ON FIRES SPARKING OFF SO FAR. LIKE RUSSIAN ROULETTE NEGATIVE BATT CABLE FIRST OFF LAST ON

Hey bud, yes you should remove voltage from the vehicle when doing such jobs. Not sure ive ever had a problem by choosing to remove the positive instead of the negative. But you def should remove battery supply. Thanks for watching.

@qqqqqq6686 3 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineMechanicTips it was hard for me to understand phenomenon too. it has nothing to do with the electron flows direction which actually flows from minus Pole to positive, yes it is physics and it is only people approach for easier understanding that current flows from higher 12v potential to Lower to 0v, ground, It is opposite.but that s not the point here. It is simpler. We disconnect negative terminal first only for safety reasons, ground is everywhere if your screwdriver fells on positive terminal while still in the car, it is more probably that it makes catastrophic short. Same when you start engine with discharged battery from a start cables and second donnor car. If you disconnect positive terminal you still have a risk to make unwanted short because ground is everywhere around.
