I started as a med surg nurse and it was ROUGH. Now I'm in the OR, and much happier. I'm thankful for the skills I acquired but I felt like my license was at stake daily smh

I’m still on the fence if I want to try something new. I think I just do not want any extra stress on me bc the only thing I’m really interested in outside of working on the ortho unit I usually work is critical care/ICU and that just seems like TOO much, I’m not ready for all that learning and being all new and doe eyed. Plus it will be a pay cut

I’m glad u like OR nursing, I talked to one and she said she had so many kidney issues d/t not drinking enough. Is that a thing in the OR?

@@yourfavnurseb9699 I work In the OR and pop in to take a BR and drink break after I drop off the patient to PACU. We also get break and lunch relief. If you call the schedule desk needing to go to the bathroom someone will come and relieve you also. Wayyyy different than the floor. On the floor I always made sure I would take the time to drink and use the bathroom between patients though. It may have been more doable because I worked at night. What we may have not gotten was a true break or lunch.

I forgot to mention that the OR has a different kind of stress though. Room turn around times, needy surgeons etc

@@Nurse4Life255 I preferred Surgical PCU , Med surg was a catch all, 6:1 ratio just a lot overall she like she mentioned in the video and where I work my CN had just as many patients the nurses had . That’s insane to have a patient load and have to be a resource as well!

I love your enthusiasm cause girl, I can not go back to the M/SFloor! I’ve worked as a case/care manager in hospital and clinical outpatient setting since 2016…different stress! But people really need to take their health seriously and get it together because nurses are burning out on those medsurg floors and it’s only going to get worse as people get sicker. But if I could work with you on the hospital floor I would because I know you are not lazy and work hard (like me)

Aww thx I don’t mind working hard and actually enjoy it sometimes esp when you are working with a team and we can all help each other. But coming into craziness everyday (which to me is always the case when I pick up on the med surg unit) is just too much, esp when your charge nurse has a full team…or there aren’t any techs, how can anyone work together!?

That is a major safety issue! Not enough staff. I work med surg telemetry and our ratio is 4 pts to 1 nurse. Charge has no pts but does break 3 nurses for lunch breaks. 😮😊

I just need my 1 year then I want to settle into a nice specialty from med surg.
@yourfavnurseb9699
@yourfavnurseb9699 15 күн бұрын
That’s the old school way, they used to always push, “do a year of med surg first”. But nowadays nurses say go straight into your specialty of choice and get into a new grad residency. Idk which option is best. I think maybe doing medsurg first can burn you out and maybe instill some not so good habits (bc you have to stretch yourself so thin). But also medsurg helps you to learn time management or at least forces you too.

Is that your usual hospital? I just started as a cna at my hospitals medsurge respiratory unit, so far, so good. Any tips?
@yourfavnurseb9699
@yourfavnurseb9699 15 күн бұрын
Yes, just not usual floor. Biggest tip is, if you plan to become a nurse make sure they help you with school. Otherwise just keep doing your best, ask for help when you need it and don’t tell them folks all your personal business or get too overly friendly, people will use that against you.
