has anyone else noticed that the bravest and the greatest are also the most humble? thank you James

Yes of course, those who have seen the belly of the beast and the hell in it’s eyes are the most humble and genuine souls you will ever meet, when you meet a showboat or a boastful veteran they aren’t telling the truth about what they did.

If you were in the shit you saw all kinds of heroic acts nobody knows about. I was a door gunner in 70 in the La Drang Valley of Death for 9 months. Wounded twice dropping guys in hot spots and picking them up but never missed many missions. I stayed pissed at the enemy the whole tour. I did everything I could to starve, depress, piss off, and kill all charlie. Chief helped me get twin M60s mounted in my door. Brass didn't like these things, the extra 175 lbs. of ammo meant we flew heavy. But every time I opened up those babies and they pushed the bird a little sideways everybody appreciated the double fire power. Also meant they always wanted us to go in first. On my last operation a platoon of grunts was mixing it up with c and we loaded support and went in about 10 f high and I opened up across the pop smoke line and all the world opened up on us all. Shot off my boot heal and snatched a patch off my shoulder. Pilot hit, Chief killed, my friend, navigator killed. Hard last mission. My time is short now. I will go and see my friends from 70. Wonder what God has done with them. Peace.

Thank you for your service. My dad was drafted in sixty six. He was a medic in the twenty fifth inf division. He passed away from non Hodgkin lymphoma related to agent orange exposure. He’s always been and still is my hero.

This is why we should treat our veterans like kings. They should be at the head of the line and not the end as they are now. Thanks to all that served and especially those that gave all.

Back in 1969, I enlisted into the Army, and went to Vietnam as a common 11B Infantryman, and I volunteered to walk point in my platoon in January 1970. I was with A Co., 3rd/22nd/25th. We were sweeping along the base of Nui Ba Den, and were ambushed. I was shot going to assist a downed chopper. I was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Combat Infantry Medallion, and a Purple Heart after I was shot at Nui Ba Den on Operation Cliff Dweller IV. I am liberal democrat, and would do it again, even if I had bone spurs on my heel. I was an agnostic at the time and I still am.
