Meditation is a great tool to help you out on taking over your feelings, emotions, attitudes… But, you gotta work at it and with it so you can actually achieve that level of self-control and discipline. I have one question to you, and you better be honest to yourself, do you want meditation to be effective in your life? Are you changing to make it effective in your life or are you using it as an escape route?
Meditation is proven by science to be effective, it works. It is a step-by-step process that will drive you to the bigger change, aka your self-improvement.
It is easy to be tricked by meditation concepts or perceptions but do not follow the flow. Work on the small processes around you and start with the realistic habits you can change.
