A note from the host, Rip Esselstyn:
Before meeting Doug Evans, I have never given sprouts much thought. To me, they were just a fancy sandwich topper and a pricey package in the produce department.
But as Doug shared with me, these tiny plants are wildly nutritious and growing them at home is worth the counter space. I was truly surprised to learn that sprouting is not only quick, easy, and inexpensive, it can also be a fun and rewarding family experience. Tune in to learn about the benefits of sprouting broccoli, lentils, chickpeas, chia, mung beans and more!

It's wild how ONLY A HANDFUL of us lucky people (out of the total population) somehow gained the awareness AND felt a compulsion to make the commitment to a fully plant-based diet along with certain necessary supplements. I feel so fortunate that my wife and I somehow discovered WFPB eating about 12 years ago. What a complete change in our lives and a tremendous improvement in the QUALITY of our lives! I wish we could get everyone else in the world on board! I got into sprouting for about a year and slowly drifted away from it. But after watching this video, I am going to get back into sprouting!

Oh my gosh! I listen to the first minute or two and I thought here’s some wacky hippie dude living in a yurt and I rolled my eyes a little bit. But man he’s a cool guy! I learned a ton and although I tried sprouting a couple years ago I had no idea how much nutrition you can get in those so this was fantastic. Once again don’t judge a book by its cover. Thanks for having him on!

Just wanted to tell you how awesome I think you are! We have the Engine 2 Cookbook, I enrolled in Rouxbe Plant base pro course after your interview with Ken Ruben. We have a NutraMilk machine ( my hubby loves the almond milk we make) after attending your kitchen rescue, and just ordered Doug Evans book and some sprouting lids. Also my pantry has a stack of plantstrong pizza crust and sauce. We have spent a lot of money because of you and we couldn’t me more happy about it after seeing and feeling the amazing things happening to our bodies because of it. Keep up the great work.

I looooove persimmons :) hearing him describe them makes me miss them so much! And I've been thinking of starting to sprout for quite a while - and I think it's finally time, I moved recently, and it seems like the perfect opportunity to do it ^^ thank you for sharing, what a wonderful conversation :)

This was an amazing interview! I am going to start sprouting again too. I grew sprouts back in the 70s and 80s, but never routinely. I'm getting Doug's book and some seeds, and going to grow more sprouts! Thanks Rip!

back in the 70's I use to grow sprouts when I lived on my sailboat. It was fun to have fresh sprouts when I went sailing & anchored out. I got out of sprouting but still have some jars. Going to start again. Thanks for the inspiration. I sure miss persimmons. Love them.

we love this. thank you, Doug! sprouted years ago as kids, but mainly alfalfa and wheat grass. now doing many more thanks to your reminder to everyone. also just fyi to all... was reading that an average daily serving of broccoli (sprouts) should be at least 3oz. to be beneficial as shown in tests. Has anyone heard different? Thank you. Good health blessings to you all.

Rip, wish your dad would look into the benefits of sprouts and microgreens and do they trump the greens he suggests for healthy endothelial function. Really hard to find info on this as a general lay person.

Glass trays are better than jars. Less chance of mold developing because of better air circulation. 🙂🌱

I’ve been sprouting multiple seeds for over few years. I was unsuccessful with sprouting arugula in jars as well as mustard seeds. No info on KZfaq on how to sprout arugula. Many tried but like me were not successful sprouting it in jars. Any advice, please? Thank you for your dedication to sprouting!!! 🙏👍🌱🌱🌱🌱

Hmm. The sprout method is missing the simpler and more nutritious way to do it. Eat the source of the sprout when it is germinated. That is the best whole raw food. Don't just eat the sprout bit - eat what is sprouted. Mung beans are probably best for this - specifically the small mung beans ( there are a few typess they look similar) and brown chickpeas. Those sprout seed packs are such a ripoff. You can literally sprout the big bags of beans at the store... costs 5 or 10 times less than the sprouting seed packs... For an idea - you can eat regular chickpeas which have been soaked for just 16 hours in water. That is soo cheap, so full of protein and so full of fiber while being low fat. An amazing combo AND it is RAW. Raw is important pat of our diet. Potential 'biophoton' pathways have been found which we get from raw foods. I didn't believe it till I saw it on pubmed... We should be eating germinated foods not just the sprout. i realize I am criticizing a fairly popular author here but... hey. Never know who is watching your youtube videos. Incorporate eating the whole germinated legume or seed in the next book ;)
