Meetings are a great alternative to real work

What I'd give to have the opportunity to work for you guys. I'll be honest and say I read Rework a long time ago and it was around the time I was really hoping to find remote employment. As a creative head, I hate meetings as I find it kills the notion of creativity and often when the meeting is about design, it becomes a design by committee drain on the product. I've introduced a few people to your book and way of thinking, but currently I'm stuck in an Agile environment where meetings are the default for daily activities. I at least can work from home, but I gotta admit, the meetings part of my day take the most effort to be attentive - which is a waste of energy. I find I can be more creative in 15 minutes in my garden, resolving complex issues in my head, than I am in 4 hours of combined meetings through out the day. Stay the course! Keep up the awesome work and building great products.

10:50 - The main reason I bought my Apple AirPods was so I could walk around my office and "walk & talk" during my meetings as sitting is slow, unproductive, and distractive. I love true "standups" and I've been able to cut my meeting time in half.

I tried to tell convey this to a former client of mine who always insisted on weekly "marketing meetings." He for some reason got it in his head that I was his "employee" and that I owed him an hour of my time for his silly meetings which, by the way, never amounted to anything other than everyone telling everyone else what they were working on. I don't care what Mary in bookkeeping is working on. That had no bearing on my job as a UX designer.

I honestly find audio only works better on the phone than on zoom, as the delay is much shorter on phone.

What's your take on pair/mob programming ?
@blakecirvin Жыл бұрын
Mobbing or pairing is like an anti-meeting. It’s more like a conversation, one that revolves entirely around getting something done or making important real-world choices. At least, that’s how I pair :)

Two people talking is not a meeting. Two people talking can be as productive as one person concentrating, but in different ways.

2:50 it's not 2 hours out of 8 hours, it's 2 out of 7 hours. 1 hr for lunch. That's my world of work anyway.
