Hi Mike, small correction if you will allow me, there were other Megaman releases for sega Saturn, so it didn't remain exclusive to Megadrive and game gear. Megaman x3 for sega Saturn exclusive to PAL market and Japan, x4 exclusive to the us market and Japan and Megaman 8 exclusive to us and Japan. Sadly those were the last Megaman ever released on a sega console. Great content, mate!

I thought this was supposed to be a remake of 4,5 & 6, not just 4. Like Wily Wars is a remake of 1,2 & 3, I think I read Sequel Wars will be a remake of the next 3 games.

Hopefully we'll see Mega Man 5 and 6 in the future even if they are stand alone remakes. Maybe Mega Man 4 took more time than they realized and they decided to just do one game at a time? But then that defeats the purpose of the post game content where you combine powers from different games to play a new game. 🤔

this specific demo is called episode red, the full sequel wars will have 4, 5 and 6 robot masters. Look for an old demo and you can play some 4, 5 and 6 levels.

Some quick info for those wanting to play some genesis games on your pal megadrive. Just picked up a complete copy of thunder force 3 for the genesis and it works on my pal megadrive 2 without a converter, I was surprised as I've always used a mega key converter in the past. Seems as though alot of other genesis games will run without a converter from reading online - at only 50hz of coarse.

A recreation based on the Sega Genesis version for MegaMan IV - VI. Interesting indeed because Wily Wars is the first trilogy part of the series so why not Sequel Wars as well. Also the box art looks like that other Capcom collection of MegaMan.

Thank you Mike once again for a fabulous episode of retro goodness. Definitely looking forward to the release of the ROM if a physical cart violates certain legislations of IP of the original. The co-op is the most attractive part although it has a fair bit of lagging as you pointed out.

Whoa! This is the type of projects on the SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive I ❤ to see! The indie development scene on SEGA's 16-bit wonder is killing it! Now, here's hoping we see ports of other games we never saw on SEGA's consoles get remastered - such as Dracula X & Metal Gear Solid.

Thanks for this mike, I’ve been keeping an eye on this one for some time. Hopefully from this demo to the full game, they can do 100%. What I mean is this demo is only half of MM4, that only 1/6 of the full idea. Fingers crossed for this one

Wow, that looks really great! When I think of great IPs that were exclusive on the NES that could be brought to new life on the Mega Drive, I can only dream of seeing great devs bringing those classics to Sega's 16-bit powerhouse! Oh, and I was very glad to see some love for Shining Force II rolling on the TV behind you during this episode! That's such and underrated gem!

I was expecting Roll to use a sword or broom for her attacks and use a standard dash (left or right twice) instead, but oh well.

Yeah, her attacks should've been with her broom. Also one of her weapons should've been getting walked in by Mega Man while taking a shower and then throwing stuff to his head (which will bounce off of him and kill enemies).

Thanks for the interesting video! I am glad that there are people who either make new games or transfer them from one platform to another - today. I didn't have Sega conosole as a child, so I don't have a huge love for the console, but I am sincerely glad for the people for whom such good games continue to come out.

@@RetroGamerBoy Panasonic 3DO at the end of it's life) I was 5 or 6, my father went on a business trip to St. Petersburg. Consoles were sold there on the market, the PS1 was already being sold in full, because it was very popular. And 3DO was already given away for cheap. Well, Dad brought it to me) It was 1995-1996. Then, of course, in the year 2001 I sold the 3DO, or rather my parents sold it, to buy the PS1. Then in the year 2003 I sold the PS1, and bought a PS2, played on it for a long time. And then, somehow I got hooked on a PC and that's it, now PC gaming is my priority, although of course, I stream games on my channel on 100% from different platforms, even console projects. But in order not to discard my console past, I became a collector) I have 10 or a little more consoles in my collection, I bought something in a collection of games on disks or cartridges, but now I have stopped, money needs to be spent on other, more important things) But maybe someday...)

I say merge the two games (Wily Wars and Sequel Wars) together; then recreate the Wily's Tower game based on mixing everything from the classic games included. Likewise, why is "Sequel Wars" JUST "Megaman 4"? Why not Megaman 4, 5 and 6 combined, like the "Wily Wars"?

Whoa, this was a surprise. Looks incredible. Picked up the Collector's Edition of Wily Wars by Retro-Bit a while back, but I also got a fan repro cart and box for the Genesis. Definitely gonna check out this title. Also, I think I prefer the name Flip Flop to Eddie now. :D

Ya missed the footage in editing. Essentially you can swap between Mega Man and Roll, the female character you play as in 2 player.

How are they going to be able to license this without a lawsuit from Capcom tho? I love this idea. This makes me hold out hope that there will be more sequels on the genesis. Maybe a vectorman 3? How bout a port of Sonic Mania? ☺

Capcom aren't actively protecting their old IP like nintendo. I suspect the legal cost are greater than the outcome. If the old Mega Man games were making them millions then they would, but I suspect it makes them nothing, so way loose money.

@@adayinforever that's because they were a commercial product and if you do that you must licence an IP, and this is where Capcom asks for millions. So rather than give Capcom millions for the licence they make a new IP and save the money themselves.

Wow, glad I caught this one. 8:17 I'm a SNES fanboy but this case that Genesis FM chip is really carrying the MM4 soundtrack into the 16bit era while still being deliciously retro. Almost like a late 80s arcade machine, a style the console was fantastic at recreating. And as silly as it might sound I'm thrilled that you can choose to play as Roll :P

Oh my- I need to play this demo asap. Juding by the name one would think this is MegaMan 4-6 but having the fourth game alone being reimagend in the sense of Wily Wars is an impressive feat by itself already. As for MegaMan on SEGA however, there was still the Saturn version of MegaMan 8 which even includes Cutman and Woodman as additional bosses 👀 The version on PlayStation was an afterthought after Sony talked to Capcom or something.

I agree; "Sequel Wars" should BE 4-6; then I'd take it further by merging 'Wily Wars" and "Sequel Wars" together in order to recreate "Wily's Tower" using the 6 Megaman games' elements, as well as including the sequels' add ons for the first games as well.

I am all in on this, especially with the improvements over Wily Wars. Here's hoping it won't have all the slowdown of Wily Wars, even the improved Retro-Bit version still is quite laggy.

Ehhh. Maybe I'm in the minority here: this is a very ambitious project, but the "Sequel Wars" name would've been a bit more justified if it'd been Megaman 4, 5, & 6, with some sort of additional bonus content...y'know...like what Wily Wars did with 1-3. And I wonder what the Japanese version would've been called? (The Japanese version of Megaman: The Wily Wars was called Rockman: Wily Tower)

A sequel doesn't necessary need to follow the formula of the previous game. But some people closer to the project have said that 5 and 6 will also be included, which if true would be amazing.

kinda curious why referencing the charging attack to a shmup when it's also exist on their own library, namely Megaman X series... :?

Because at the time the charge was not in another Megaman game, and one of the biggest games that pioneered and mainstreamed the charge mechanic was R-Type. So the team inspiration for this mechanic likely came from another game.

I also like how the later nes games were more creative in the robot master boss fights, you had a robot skeleton, a train, a gravity master, a knight, a centaur, all cool bosses

I'd rather play these games on the NES to be honest. It just isn't the same without the sprite flickering and edge scrolling issues.... I'd probably take the Legacy collection on PC if this is going to be stupidly overpriced due to "nostalgia tax"

Whilst this is very nice and Capcom should take notice it is their IP at the end of the day. I wouldn't want to release this physically without their permission. I'd also be very careful digitally. Two options I guess. One would be a similar agreement as Pinball Dreams on Amstrad. Rebellion were spoken with and permission was given for a zero profit release along with a disclaimer upon loading the game. The second is a reskin and drop the Mega Man IP. If Capcom wants they can come down hard. Hopefully they will do a Sega and not a Nintendo

Capcom generally do a Sega. They do not case up Roms of their games at all, which are a bigger risk to them than fan made games.

@@RetroGamerBoy I wish there was a way for the smaller guys and the bigger IP holders to work together. I completely understand the company point of view. It's their IP. Their work and whilst talented people are working with it they are also potentially making money from something which does not belong to them. Which is theft. Then there are those projects that could lack quality or even raise money for something dodgy. In an ideal world this would somehow become official and have Capcom's blessing

Mike always has the box cart for a game that hasn't even been released yet 😂 I missed my chance to get in on the Wily Wars Retro-bit re-release last year 😕 I'd hate to look on aftermarket sites to see what they're going for now. I am glad however, to see more megaman fangames being made for the genesis. We would have also gotten an enhanced port of Megaman X, but there has been problems with that development. Seek out Footage on YT. Speaking of R-type, the only one of Sega's consoles to get an official game, which happens to be one of the very good ones, is for the Master System. Developed by Compile back when they had a huge pedigree in the genre of shooters, the first R-type got it's port there with exclusive extras. It also _might_have_been_ JP only. It would be cool to see a classic R-type made for the Genesis in this current generation.

Do they "only" pla. to include 4? I know it's a fan probect so I won't complain but I can't help but wanting to have some kind of "true" sequel with 4, 5 and 6 (maybe even 9 and 10 could be remade as a genesis port someday). But anyway, this looks great, I wonder, in the case where this is a hack of wily wars, if they were able to fix the bad performances of the engine. I see that the co-op makes the game slowing down but the solo seems to run great, so I guess it's possible.

A sequel Two The wildly wars Would be nice if they did the other 3 megaman games And then with Capcom Help they can put it on the 2nd Genesis online service on the switch and then capcom could put Mega man 7 on the super nintendo online service on the switch And this company could also for the switch give us a superintendent like version of Mega man 8 Which would be cool Cause technically in a way Mega man the wildy wars Was technically using a Mega man's 7 engine So if they can make the rest of the series that way and nintendo can put them on their online services We could have a second Genesis superintendent like Mega man wonderful experience Instead of all the games having odd graphics jumping around between styles which is really annoying
