This is our reaction and review for Megamind (2010)!! Anthony has seen this movie once before several years ago but he doesn't remember too much of it and this is Kacee's first time watching it! Megamind (Will Ferrell), although being the smartest supervillain ever, is the least successful. Megamind is more startled than anyone when he finally succeeds to vanquish his lifelong foe after being repeatedly thwarted by the heroic Metro Man (Brad Pitt). But without Metro Man, Megamind has no purpose in life, so he creates a new opponent, who quickly decides that it's more fun to be a bad guy than a hero.

There’s a cool theory that the reason Metroman decided to pursue music is because it’s something that his powers won’t automatically make him good at, so he can actually work to improve on it and become successful on his own

Also, Metroman is very much color-coded as Elvis Presley, who spent his later years locked up in Graceland, a museum of himself. When you learn that Metroman faked his death, he's literally eating a sandwich, a reference to the king's insane peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich that was Elvis' favorite.

This movie is so underrated because it came out around the same time as the 1st Dispicable Me and got a bit overshadowed by the minions.

What i love about this movie is the theme of Nurture vs Nature. Megamind never had the chance to be anything else that a villain and Metro Man never had the choice to be anything else than a superhero. Also, the reason why Metro Man choose music is because he needs to learn and gain experience, put a real effort to be good at it. Which is something he never had to do before.

this movie covers Nature vs Nurture, but also Kind vs Nice, its such a shame that Despicable Me overshadowed this move because Megamind is the better movie in my opinion.

In the theaters, in 3D, that “presentation” part was an experience. Lot’s of interesting lessons here about good, bad and expectations. Metroman not being the villain was perfect.

21:20 That was actually deliberate. He was actually a parody of Superman's biological father in the 1978 Superman movie, who was played by Marlon Brando, who is perhaps most famous for playing Vito Corleone in The Godfather, which is where the stereotypical "gangster accent" comes from.

For me this movie is right up there with Road to El Dorado, Prince of Egypt and Spirit as most underated Dreamworks movies. It was 10 years ahead of it's time, the stuff with Snyder's Superman and the hero desconstructions we love so much today? Megamind did it all first but it all got swept under the Minions hype, I do think Despicable Me is a cute movie but I'll never get over the fact we have so many Minions movies and ONE Megamind movie.

They were the best Dreamworks gems there was back in the day, especially Shrek films, Kung Fu Panda trilogy, & even How To Train Your Dragon trilogy carried the stable.

So many details in that movie for an example everytime Megamind use his device to change into someone else, his eyes keeps the same green color. That's how you know if it's him or not even as metroman, it also happens when Minion uses it.

_"It's like it's from a gangster movie (referring to "space dad")"_ Well, Marlon Brando _was_ both the Godfather _and_ Superman's father Jor-El, and "space dad" is very specifically a riff on Brando's portrayal of the character, so... well spotted.

Filming with Brando was also... not great, according to the stories; "He horrified Salkind by proposing in their first meeting that Jor-El appear as a green suitcase or a bagel with Brando's voice, but Donner used flattery to persuade the actor to portray Jor-El himself." "Brando had it in his contract to complete all of his scenes in twelve days. He also refused to memorize his dialogue, so cue cards were compiled across the set." "Marlon Brando found out he could not film in Italy because of a warrant out for his arrest: a sexual-obscenity charge from Last Tango in Paris."

to this day i cant decide which is my favorite, megamind or spiderverse. and as i have rewatched both multiple times through reacts(and on my own as well), it just makes it all that much harder to decide.

Not a 100% sure, but I have the theory the space dad outfit and voice are a Marlon Brando's reference, Superman's biological dad in the original movies. I'm glad you like it! This is a great movie, each time I watch it I notice something different.

I think the sequels and Minions stuff really spoiled Despicable Me for me. I'm kinda glad Megamind didn't get milked so hard so it stayed just a good movie.

Well, it makes sense that that didn't happen regarding Megamind because (unlike Illumination Studios, a.k.a. the people behind Despicable Me) the people in Dreamworks Studios aren't the kinds of people to "milk the cow dry" but rather actually continue something because doing so would actually be something good; the one exception being Shrek 3 but atleast they redeemed themselves with Shrek 4.

when I was a kid, I hated metroman for his reasons, but now I'm grown, I completely understand metroman Metro Man was tired of always being a hero. It's not that he dislikes saving people, but rather felt like that he never really had a choice. He decided to MAKE a choice, and chose to give up crime-fighting and go into retirement. He away be of what the city love him to be, there savior. But now he realized that he should have become someone that he love to be instead. Metroman's message is often overlooked, it's alright to help others and all, but you are not responsible for anyone's happiness, you should come first on your list of priorities, and no matter how much better the world would be with your help, if you are not happy, then what's the point? Do what you love to do and be who you want to be, and don't let anyone or anything stop you or make you feel wrong for doing so.

Metroman is smart too. He hatched a plan for Megamind to change. He knew Megamind would have no choice but to develop when taking himself out of the equation...he even said it at the end "I knew you had it in you."

@@Mr2200 absolutely a misunderstood character, and he expected to be. Ironically his most heroic act had been retiring. He could tell he lived in such a false utopia, and couldn’t stand it. It needed to be destroyed and rebuilt by more qualified hands. Certainly he didn’t plan it all. He just did the right thing out of sheer faith, and stepped back from his position of perpetuating expectations.

Fun fact: When they were awkwardly for the Death Ray to boot up at the start of the movie, you could see Metro Man appear behind Megamind for a split second and reappear on his screen. Shows the attention to detail the filmmakers went through.

The only issue was that in the flashback, he did that while Megamind was yelling fire, but in the beginning it was when Megamind was just awkwardly staring at the camera afterward. Other than that, it's pretty great.

Good news! Megamind IS getting a sequel in the form of a series on Peacock! It was announced this year actually, on Feb 11th! I think the memes DID in fact get Dreamworks to acknowledge how good this movie always was! :D

There is actually a short film sequel for this movie called Megamind and the Button of Doom and there is currently in the works a Megamind sequel series of him as hero and the writers of the og movie are coming back for it! so excited for it!!

The space step dad intro scene was a reference to Marlon Brando who played the father of the Superman (Christopher Reeves) in the original Superman movies. Marlon Brando also played the Godfather...that's why you mentioned he sounded like a gangster.

(When I was little, my grandma let me stay home from school and took me to see Megamind when I struggling with a bad cold. It's one of my fondest memories and the movie has been close to my heart ever since, plus it was the first time I saw the bad guy turned good plotline and it rocked my world.)

will farrel is one of those actors who is very hit or miss with me as well. but i gotta say, i love his animated work, both megamind and lego movie are perfect. and i genuinely do not think there could be an actor to better portray megamind than him.

In the '70s Superman movies Marlon Brando played Superman's Kryptonian father. He also played Vito Corleone in 'The Godfather.' For that role he stuffed wads of cotton in his cheeks to change his facial structure causing him to talk like Megamind does in his "Space Dad" act. The subtitles in this version suck. Megamind gives Super Hal the name 'Titan' which is later used in a gag to show Hal misheard. But the subtitles ruined the gag by saying it was always 'Tighten.'

Megamind is top drawer. I'm not as sure it needed a sequel as other people are though, Megamind has done his character growth at this point, he has survived long enough to see himself become the hero.

"ITS SO FLUFFY!!" is basically why this movie was overshadowed. Despicable Me came out and all the trailers had the Cute-Kids factor - so Megamind was just sorta sidelined.

This is a What If scenario where Tony Stark's life was played in reverse; he first develop advance technology before gaining the heart of a hero instead of undergoing trauma and being enlightened, developing his tech in the process.

They're working on an animated series for Peacock, "Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City". It was first announced in February and they just announced a few days ago that the writing is done and production is moving forward.

First, movie is one of the best superhero movies of all time, live action OR animated. Second, regarding sub v dub, I like to have both playing if I can. I follow the subtitles for the original connotation, while also noting differences in the story. But it's handy if there's a lot of complex action to follow, so I can watch that while following the paragraphs of dialogue characters can spout in mid jump.

When Metro Man explains how he used his super speed to think things over, at one point he's in the fake observatory with Megamind.... if you go back in the movie to that scene, there's a brief flash of Metro Man behind him :D

Interesting fact: Hal Stewart is actually an amalgamation of the two main Green Lanterns in DC - Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart... both of whom got their powers by being the most worthy person nearby - kinda ironic that Hal was probably the least worthy to have powers of the four people within range of the power gun.

Metroman had superpowers, but you can tell by his outfits and stage presence, that he really wanted to be like Elvis.

Here’s the best way to look at Megamind, Metro Man and their effect on the world around them. They aren’t heroes OR villains. They are taking part in a school play and were assigned their roles. And they took both roles into being professional actors. It’s ALWAYS about the show, the presentation. Megamind’s methods never hurt anyone. It’s clear from how Roxanne treats his early threats. He wanted her to play her part, but like a show, it just LOOKS like she’s in danger. It’s all property damage, trolling…terrorism. But no one dies in this method. (You can’t possibly tell me he pronounces all those words wrong genuinely, and he just enjoys ticking people off by trolling them) He realizes he wants the other role, but he’s ASSIGNED his role, he can’t be another role unless he’s someone else. So he plays the director. And he made the WRONG cast choice but was too proud to choose someone else. He wants to escape not the show, but the tropes. He acts slightly entitled for Roxanne, but he is more saying I’m not ALLOWED to have these things because I’m the bad guy. You won’t LET me change. Metro Man straight up didn’t want this show anymore. He wanted another show. And one HE has to earn. Hence why he chose music. No physical training he always has done, no super power helping him do it, he has to actively learn how to play. And currently he’s awful and has to learn. Which is what he wants. Minion is more the backstage manager handling the costumes and helping the theatrics hit the perfect adrenaline. (Intentionally making those RIDICULOUS warm up times.) And when Megamind says he doesn’t want the role, Minion basically is saying the show may as well be canceled. Which it more or less was since all the cracks of the show WITHOUT Minion fell apart. Hal, was never in the show. He’s the camera guy. He WATCHES the show. He never played the role. He could only take what he assumed happened from watching. Metro Man got Roxanne because he saved her. Metro Man would never have died if he just put down Megamind. (There are MILLIONS of viewers that say that the hero should just kill the villain.) Not only was that untrue, but Hal never even fit in the roles in the first place. And showed exactly why someone LIKE Hal can’t have those powers. Because it’s not the power, it’s their control. And he has NONE. Because he never caught on this was a performance. He could act as he pleased because he wasn’t a character in the show. Roxanne realized as time went on how these guys saw their role and she decided to snap these people out with REALITY and not playing into their show. And it just kept getting her stuck in various versions until Hal was powerless, and she understood Megamind really was just as human as the rest of them.

Mispronouncing words is fairly common for people who read a lot (be it books, the internet, or whatever) but don't regularly socialize with actual people to hear the words spoken or be judged for how they say it.

The "space dad" is supposed to be an impersonation of actor Marlon Brando, who played Vitto Corleone in "The Godfather" , but was also Jor-El, Superman's father, in the 1978 "Superman" with Christopher Reeves. The flying with Titan is a spoof of the flying date with Lois Lane in "Superman". You did pick up that the origin story of both Megamind and Metro Man is the same as Superman, right?

Hal Stewart, gets his powers from a glowing yellow substance, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, Green Lanterns whose only weakness is the color yellow. Their rings won't work on yellow due to the yellow contaminant in the Green Lantern Battery on Oa.

“Space dad” is based on Marlon Brando in the 70s Superman movie lol. Also, Hal Stewart’s name is based on 2 Green Lanterns (John Stewart and Hal Jordan)
