It's obvious they were aiming for cheap TV spinoff slop animation since kids don't question that kind of thing normally. What they failed to understand was that the majority of people who liked Megamind aren't children anymore but rather grew up with the original movie which had something to say about superhero media

I feel like animation in general is being treated as a joke! The big production studios' executives just think: *"This is just for kids, no one actually takes this stuff seriously. We don't need to put much effort in it, because the kids who watch this are stupid and have bad taste."* Edit: Okay, this comment might have been a bit harsh.
