I just saw your halo removal video. I dislocated my Neck at C1/C2 in 2000 when I was a kid and had fusion surgery 13 months later (undiagnosed for 13 months). I had a halo for several months and then a light neck brace for 6 months after. They actually took some of my left hip and put it into my neck with a lot of wires (since I was a kid). It's been over 17 years now since that happened, but my neck mobility is great and I have no pain and the scars from the halo have pretty much subsided. I hope you are feeling better and thanks for making your videos.

Hey Megan!! My name is Megan too! You are a pretty amazing person! I have no idea how I found your videos but I’m super glad I did. I have a rod and several screws in my right arm and an intrathecal pain pump & spinal stimulator. I too have many “odd” things happening in my situation! I just wanted to say hey and let you know you aren’t alone! 💕

I hope this doesn't sound rude, but I have known of other people with Halos, and have always wondered how they were able to sleep, shower, and even eat? It seems so difficult to do! But You're a very strong person, with an amazing heart! 😁

I don't have a halo, but I know you have to wash your hair around them in a sink, usually, since you can't get the halo itself wet. You clean your body around it, too, so sponge baths, and the oh so amazing bath that doesn't really go up that high. (That I am familiar with due to IV placements, having needles in my port, etc. You can't get any of that wet either, though it's far more of a challenge when you have a brace on for an extended period of time.)

Don't want to seem rude but how did you dress, shower or sleep with the halo on and did the halo feel heavy when you had it on (sort if it seems rude)
@MeganKing196 жыл бұрын
It's not rude; many ask. The halo feels heavy at first. I got used to it within a few days. It weighs about 8 pounds. You don't feel the weight on your head. You feel the weight more in your legs and on your core muscles. For dressing I would either wear stretchy shirts that I could slip under the brace (like stepping into a pair of pants), or I would wear large shirts that fit over the brace. Showering, I would lay on a kitchen counter with my head over the kitchen sink, or I'd lay on this thing my dad built so my head was over the bathtub. Then we'd wrap my neck & brace in a bunch of towels since the lining can't get wet. From there my mom or sister would wash my hair, & usually braid it. For sleeping, I used a lot of pillows. Since the head suspends in the halo I would roll a small blanket up and put it between the bars so it felt like my head was laying on something. I'd lay in a reclined position or on my side. Sometimes I would sleep in a chair that went back.

I was watching chiropractic videos cause it sounds so good when they adjust people's backs. But came across your video and I wish you all the best and I surely do hope your doing swell and everything is going for you. I was watching mean girls earlier when Regina had that brace thing as well. I think her name was Regina. Haha I'm not sure. But anyways I wish you all the best.

haha yep it's Regina. Day before I had the halo removed family and I dressed me up as her :) Thank you for the well wishes!

just came across your brace removal video, was interested in what your story is, born with a neck problem or were you in an accident or something? (hope that didnt sound rude cause not how i meant it) just never knew what those braces were for, and youre beautiful ! sending prayers your way 🙏

Justice no worries. It didn't come across rude or anything. So I have a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It's genetic. I wasn't diagnosed until 2015. EDS causes the body to produce faulty collagen which is like the glue that holds your body together. It typically causes joint dislocations, subluxations, prone to muscle/tendon/ligament tears & host of many other issues that can cause problems with the entire body. No 2 cases are alike. My joints are affected the most. I started having spine issues in 2012. I was then diagnosed with severe neck instability so that's all fused. Then I became unstable below my fusion & developed scoliosis as well. Last fall I was fused down to middle of my low back. That's the really vague, short condensed version :)

Having issues with my spine so there's a lot of pain but I'm plugging along. Trying to get as strong as possible before a revision surgery.
