I know that buying in bulk saves money and my husband is a big fan of "stocking up" but it sends my anxiety into overdrive. Unless it's something that we truly love and I know we will use, I only purchase a minimal amount. I'd rather spend a little extra than have to throw it away. Everything looks so good! Your hard work really paid off. Keeping a list of what you already have will help a lot. Organizing is so satisfying!

Saving crystallized honey….either warm it gently in the container in the microwave in short spurts and stir until it looks normal…OR even better, take the crystallized honey and put in your mixer and whip it for about 20minutes, it’s amazing!!!!!

Re: your comment that keeping all the glass containers is not "declutterry" - it is. Decluttering is getting rid of CLUTTER. If you use something, it's not clutter.

My house was built in the 50's. This is absolutely how my pantry looks too, and please don't feel alone. I love your labels- I need to get a label maker! Also, re: honey, because it's crystallized you could make it into creamed honey- using stand mixer. No buy list! As someone who got dx with ADHD last week, that sounds SO helpful. Love this vlog!

Good job decluttering! It’s like an onion- you peel off one layer then you start to notice other stuff that you don’t really need that you can declutter and you eventually chip away. Having young kids and a highly simplified house has been life giving! I recommend the Minimal Mom - although I live a very different lifestyle from her, she has great tips of efficiency to help make time for what really matters!

Contact paper to cover shelves. Clear plastic labelled boxes to put stuff in, in your deep shelf cupboards. Then you can pull them out like draws. I did this.. total game changer.. shelves stay clean, you see what you have, so no out of date stuff and easy to take out.

I do this regularly for my parents. Thankfully, their pantry is tiny, so they can't overfill it, but they do tend to forget what they have. I check all the best-by dates and put everything that is soon to expire right at the front so that they can see it. I also make a list of things they have too much of, and stick it to their fridge next to the pad they use for their grocery lists 😂 My sister is a nurse and does the same thing with their medications.

One thing to remember about the baking mixes is that the active ingredients do break down. Like the baking soda or baking powder that's been added. I had an older box of Bisquick and I really wanted to make scones for some strawberries we brought home so I made them even though it was past the date, they didn't rise, I took a small bite they tasted really weird. So I realized yes it's sad that we didn't use them in the time frame that we bought them But they probably aren't going to work. I'm feeling really inspired by you right now cuz I know I have a brownie mix a lemon square mix the cake mix sitting in my pantry right now that I just need to throw away because they're old. Keep going I will too

First time visitor here! You're so relatable to my undiagnosed ADHD brain! My house is 100 years old, and every cupboard (of which there aren't many) was built-in decades ago so there's no standard sizes (or right angles for that matter.) For random-sized cupboards that things tend to get shoved to the back and die, I've been getting plastic tubs or other containers and use them like drawers. The local plastics outlet had some containers without lids so they were 90% off, and I was not going to use the lids anyway. LOL

Keep in mind, only baby formula has expiration dates that are regulated by the FDA. Companies put a date on items that are actually Best By Dates. Baking mixes would of course be beyond best date but canned goods are not expired. Give a call to your local food pantry, they are experts on "expiration dates". Love your channel! PS I'm in a house built in the 1890's. Uhg!

I buy plastic bins at dollar tree and fill them with like items. You can pull them out like drawers. I’m 78, so I set up a system where I do certain things on certain days. The first time is a deep clean and then is easier to maintain, for instance, Monday is laundry and bathrooms. Tuesday is living room and halls, etc.

I learned the hard way that baking mix that is over one year expired just straight up doesn't work. The baking powder goes bad and it won't rise. You can add more baking powder though if you need to use old mix. The other thing that can happen is bugs hatching in the flour 😬

I laughed out loud at you saying ‘can we normalize older homes being imperfect’ and then saying your house was built in the 90s. My house was built in the 80s… the 1880s! Obviously it’s been renovated since then, but it made me laugh to realize that wow, yes, the 90s were 30 years ago, and that actually IS old. So my house is positively ANCIENT by comparison… crazy!!

Please don’t get rid of the honey. Honey is so precious. Just run the jar under hot tap water and it will melt again. Also solidified honey is when you know it’s the best quality. So I just eat it as is in my tea and use a metallic honey scoop to get it out. Works great. But if you need it runny, then warm it up under hot tap water.

I think i tried to let the closed lid honey jar in a warm to slightly hot water to help melt the honey better and this has helped the honey stay sort of soft again until i am done consuming the whole jar . Plastic bottle honey i dont bother i just throw them out 😑😑😑

While the rest of our home is uber minimal....the kitchen is a working kitchen, we prep, we have ducks, chickens, goats and assorted other 4 legged creatures that depend upon us . We can, dehydrate and freeze dry. we vaccume seal a LOT. We make our own pasta, butter etc..at 63 the kitchen aid must live on the counter now. It is possible to have all of that (if your kitchen storage space is good) and not even look a bit cluttered. It is a regular task, rotating, labeling and moving into the other pantry (a huge cedar lined walk in closet in my office)..I know a lot of people think there is no reason to have a pressure canner or a dehydrator or even a kitchen aid. If you do not cook daily...even monthly..maybe not. But if you use it a few times a week...it IS essential. A coffee pot is not essential to us, we use a french press...

Random passerby, but thought to leave a comment since a family member raises bees. If your honey is natural (no additives, I mention that because you add 3000 chemical ingredients to stuff in the US, which will alter the properties), you don't need to "save" it, it will survive the apocalypse & still be eatable. Depending on how cold it is, natural honey will become paste like in a couple months max after being collected from the beehives. That preserves it actually. What companies do to make it liquid is usually to heat it at high temps, which sadly makes it loose most of its benefits. If you want to make it liquid again, put it in warm (no too hot) water if you have to. Otherwise, I recommend collecting it in a jar you can dip a small wooden spoon in (yes wood, metal affects the properties of honey & alters taste) & spreading it on warm bread if you want to eat it & dislike the thicker consistency.

You can find more detail by just googling but my dad, a bee keeper, gets his honey back into a liquid by warming the jar in hot water. The key is to warm it slowly to not kill the good properties in the honey. Enjoy!

oh don't be embarrassed, I threw away last week a box of spices mix for some chicken meal that expired in 2004! and yes It followed me when I moved in 2014! 😱🤯 Anyway, I do micro decluttering like the wonderful book of Shira Gill (minimalista) suggested, decluttering one drawer at a time so that way you'll avoid overwhelming and I'm almost through decluttering my entire kitchen. just need to go through my spice drawer. Yes, pull-out drawers are a blast ( we have an IKEA kitchen). Being able to see immediately what you have when you pull out the drawer is key for me. I also have some plastic map ( VARIERA) on every bottom of my drawers, to easily keep them clean and to avoid the pots and stuff from slipping. I would strongly recommend some pull-out drawers for your baking cabinet, since you have products behind some others, it seems difficult to know what you have which makes it extra difficult to reach them and put it back when you're tired from all the baking. Also a good advice from the book, own ONE of each type of stuff. Did I spot 3 silicon claws tongs? ( may be you declutter some of them). Decluttering and finding a system that works for you is difficult and it is a journey... 'own less it's easier to maintain' has become my new mojo :-) If you can read French I also recommend the book 'l'ecologie d'interieur' from @larrangeuse. After reading it I don't feel the need to buy anything that is not essential anymore!!! Tomorrow I'm going through my seeds drawer because yes, they expired too and it's a hot mess where I have no good idea of what I have!

I don’t know if this was mentioned but turn your shelves round . Front to back and bottom to top. Fresh edges and unused surface
