Intuition, according to the japanese, is built by repetitive behavior. Repetition over and over again, until you get to the point of noticing subtleties from the norm.

Intuitive eating is a great tool for maintaining but less so for specific goals imo. The thing a lot of IE advocates forget to mention though is that it requires a reasonable amount of nutritional education and awareness. For me, I would not be able to eat intuitively and maintain my weight if I had not spent some time counting calories/macros (learning what serving sizes look like) and paying attention to my micro/fiber intake. I think this is impossible to pull off unless you also choose to limit your access to hyper palatable foods. The bottom line is it takes a bit more work than some people in the fitness space like to discuss
@Abc-cp8me
@Abc-cp8me 3 жыл бұрын
Yah when I was learning to eat intuitively I used myfitnesspal as a guide. I logged food but didnt pay much attention to the calories i consumed. Over time I started seeing the pattern between satiety/food portions etc... and how it affected my weight, so i got more confident in relying less on mfp and my food scale over time.

Another thing that most intuitive eating advocates forget to say is that every person who is morbidly obese is an intuitive eater. They did not use any fancy apps or macro counting to get that way.
@lisenormann4102
@lisenormann4102 3 жыл бұрын
@@gantoniopatriarca9520 I would disagree with you that every morbidly obese person is an intuitive eater, most of them probably suffer from eating disorder such as overeating, and eat way past satiety. As someone who's suffered with bingeing/overeating I can tell you that I felt that I was full, but I continued eating anyway..

I did calorie tracking for maybe like 2 years and now I'm at a point where I feel like a scale should not decide what I eat. I eyeball everything on my plate and it's more relaxing. When I used to count macros, I used to get anxiety, stress and truly said by meg 'life revolving around food' .

Omg! Listening to my body is a joke considering how I’ve been dieting for about the past 20 years. Thank you for finally hitting the nail on the head. Your girl needs parameters but too much tracking leads me to obsessive behaviors and no parameter leads me to bingeing …once I’m miserable and have gained 15lbs I repeat the cycle. THANK YOU!!!!!❤️

I love macros because they make me feel consistent. I don’t binge haven’t for years . I’m a distance runner/ endurance athlete and a power lifter . I feel like all the miles I do make me so hungry on certain days if I completely gave into to it . I would binge . I feel very satisfied counting macros I do have a few days that I eye ball a meal like dinner .. I’ve gotten really good at knowing portion and calories but I like eating the occasional treat with zero guilt , macros just help me do that .

This is the video I didn’t know I needed right now! I’ve been tracking my food with my fitness pal off and on for about 5 years now. I just started tracking again about a month ago and I’ve noticed myself, as usual, getting obsessive over it again. I think that knowing what is in your food and portion sizes is very important, but as you said, counting macros shouldn’t be a lifelong thing. After this video, I think I’m gonna stop tracking for a while again and see how it goes.

The one thing I taught myself to help me with intuitive eating is asking this question when I'm heading to grab something: "Am I actually feeling hungry?" If I'm not 100% sure, I drink some water and ask myself the same question again. *It works every time!* Before, I would eat out of boredom. That realization was eye-opening!

I saw an RD for a bit, and she said the myplate is a good starting place, but the “dairy” portion should really be replaced with “calcium.” Because dairy isn’t actually necessary for a diet, but calcium is a necessary nutrient, and you can get that through fortified non-dairy milks or other calcium-rich foods. That definitely helped me a lot!!

I'm realizing that intuitive eating is also something you should temporarily do and alternate between macro counting/calorie counting because I pretty much stopped counting macros after I got into the military and I ballooned up to my original starting weight on my journey 10 years ago however I'm not just sitting around 20-24% BF but also much more muscular. I think I should track my macros again for 3 months to reinforce the habit of knowing what certain portions look like and feel like in your stomach to push compliance. Then you can relax and be more sociable since macros takes away the normalcy factor living freely.

I've started tracking my food now that I'm making more of an effort in the gym (actually going in with a plan and recording progress etc) and I wanted to make sure I was getting enough protein. I don't eat meat (except fish) so even with tracking and making an effort I still struggle to hit my protein goals. But I'm getting better at it, tracking is showing me what meals work for my macros and which ones need adjusting. The plan is to use tracking to get a better feel for how to get enough protein, I don't intend to use it forever.

Really interesting about those studies and linking tracking aps with disordered eating. I'm curious if they've accounted for other variables such as nutrition/calorie knowledge, addictive personalities, past discorded habits, if they created their own calorie goal vs dietician provided, where the participants researched macros and calories etc, support networks, are they involved in online communities such as reddit's lose it where people eating 1200 calories is not blinked at.

Something that really helped me (might be obvious to some, but anyways): If you're currently tracking, try to not only watch the scale, but take a really good look at your plate aswell. After weighing and tracking for a couple of months i now have a good understanding of what my portions sizes should look like (at least for the foods i eat regularly). I'm now trying to slowly shift towards more intuitive eating, where i just weigh/track certrain foods i'm not so sure about. This process has been a huge game changer for me :)

As did I. It takes a long time to break away from that type of programming. Once your brain is rewired, you will be able to eat when hungry and stop when full. Remind yourself that you don't have to finish the entire thing, and can save it for later or another day. It's helped me alot.

Thanks for this video. I started my recomposition journey about 5 weeks ago and have tried tracking but still find it doesn't work for me. I find it out frustrating tracking every ingredient for every meal. It makes me obsess over what I am eating which I'm sure causes stress which in turn raises cortisol and that can cause weight gain. I was wondering if a person can recomp without tracking? I feel like this kinda answers that question. I have no problem controlling portions and increasing proteins and trying to be more mindful of what I am eating. I have tried counting calories multiple times in my life and it never works, if you don't like doing something you're less likey to stick with it. I am worried that since I'm not tracking I may not see results and get frustrated. I feel like I am getting stronger so that is a plus. Anyway, thanks for the video. Oh and I'm fairly new to your channel, really enjoying the videos.

I started lifting weights and documenting myself) I noticed some disordered thoughts. Like... I can't eat sugar because Imma completely frick up my progress, I need to feel destroyed after every single workout so it counts, I need to hit my macros to the T and fill every single number. I get frustrated bc my scale broke and I can't afford a new one now so my totally fckd and I won't see progress. I feel like I need to be PERFECT, otherwise I won't see changes. And, oh boi... I don't like it. I want to be free and healthy, not obsessed over what I eat and what I do.

So relatable. I've had eating disorders in the past and sometimes it feels like I escaped from one vicious cycle to another

I do count calories but i just try to watch getting in enought protein and have an overall eye over the calories I eat!, the only thing is, I’m running out of cooling ideas 😂, I don’t know why but I have the need to change it up every time even tho I really like the things I’ve been cooling so far

Eating when your hungry from experience can work when your intermittent fasting and doing a healthy version of keto. Carbs interfere with craving to much for me to stick with a healthy lifestyle. I'm in no way knocking how you feel or how others feel just giving this a little context. I lost 200 pounds just learning as much as I could about nutrition and how to apply it to my body personal needs. I'm at a point now where I can finally join a gym and start strength training. I used to be 587 two years ago. Just found your channel giving a face to a brand new subscriber!

I think if you're not making gains (and you're not in the top 10% of gymnuts or an athlete) then micromanaging your macro ratios is probably not the thing slowing your progress. Are you; changing up your workout plan, getting enough sleep, overworking muscle groups, eating a generally balanced diet, eating enough meals each day, etc, etc, etc. Surprised none of these were mentioned (except diet balancing) until the every end of the video. Would expect it in the intro, to quickly summarise WHY people might be overanalysing their macros, and then to address the diet piece if people have ruled out the other things (not the other way round - like in this video).
