As somebody who's stuttered their whole life it helps hearing other people with success who fight the good fight, inspiration is truly missed....
@chrismcallister7050 Жыл бұрын
It really is a struggle. I fight it everyday. Some days are better than others, some are not. If I get really nervous, I can't get a word out at all. It'll take me about 20 seconds to get one out. And I'll always end up saying the wrong thing most times or not making any sense at all.

@@chrismcallister7050 I'm sorry, I'm sure it is a struggle. Mel is a great inspiration.

Mel actually did have therapy and improved his speech quite a lot. I heard him when he was older and I almost wished for the stutter back, except that he was so much happier to speak freely. But he made the stutter such a positive thing. Have you watched _The King's Speech?_ I put off watching it but I saw it recently and I feel like they did justice to Bertie's struggles and his determination.

Mel didn't care if people laughed when he stuttered. It is what helped make him famous.

Gung-Ho Bigfoot Adventures He sure didn’t. His Dad stuttered and his brothers, so he was raised to pretty much stutter due to environment. On his first day of school, he came home and asked his mom if he stuttered.. she said “yes, son”. He told her that the kids were laughing at him. She told him “well give them something to laugh at..” So he said “That was my first day in entertainment.”

Hog wash you don't know what kind of hell it is to stutter!! Stupid people laugh at those who stutter but the facts are people who stutter have to listen more and talk less so they are smarter and have a higher IQ.

I remember seeing him in concert and saying, "I have stuttered all my life and for the last 25 years, professionally, and making a good living at it." He did embrace it and made it work.

I met Pam Tillis at a concert in Salt lake City, I was her security guard. I stutter and Pam thought I was messing with her because of her father. People laugh at people who stutter but they don't know how hard it is to deal with and the pain it causes. I admire Pam and her father for making the best of a problem that has followed them for a long time.

I used to watch him on talk shows back in the 70s and I really appreciated how he incorporated the stutter into his act. When I went to college, I had a friend who stuttered and he told the most fabulous stories about his real life experiences. I think watching Mel as a teen gave me the understanding and grace to respect his speech. If not for Mel I probably wouldn't have heard all the stories my friend had to tell.

Mel Tillis will always be an inspiration to every stutterer that's ever lived. And I know he came to terms with it and could joke about it but that first laugh he gets when they think he is doing the stutter for comedic affect just kinda hits hard. Stutterers learn they can get a laugh because of their stutter even if they weren't trying to but that first laugh just always hurts. You're not laughing with me but at me

The best story I heard Mel tell was the one where he was at a party and he saw Tom T. Hall. He walked up to him and said, "Tom, I just got done writing a new song and want your opinion". So they walk up to the piano and Mel starts singing the song to Tom whereby Tom stops him mid-way and says, "Mel that song ain't goin' nowhere, won't be a hit so I recommend you sell it if you can". Mel takes his advice and sells the song whereby it is sung by another artist and it goes on to sell 5 million copies and makes the artist a household name! You see the song was Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, the artist Kenny Rogers and that's how they say is music history!!

Mel stuttered because he had malaria as a kid; he was a bit self-conscious about it when he was younger, and lots of people made fun of him for it. Minnie Pearl showed him he could use his stutter to his comedic advantage, and I suppose he got over it (the self-consciousness). She was kind and understanding like that for a lot of people.
