Part 3 of our journey to St Kilda features trams between Clarendon St Junction and St Kilda Station, commonly referred to as the St Kilda Light Rail following conversion of the former Broad Gauge railway line to a Standard Gauge tramway in 1987. During special events, notably the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the annual St Kilda Festival, this section of track sees intense services and trams from other depots are borrowed to assist in running services.
In this video we see B1 2001 arriving at the junction on its very last day in use, along with A, B2, C, C2 and E class trams. Trams are also seen making their way from the junction, en route to Southbank Depot when services were suspended for four hours due to industrial action. The former station building at Middle Park is also seen, shortly before it burned down in 2018.
