The Philippines were claimed in the name of Spain in 1521 by Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer sailing for Spain, who named the islands after King Philip II of Spain. They were then called Las Felipinas.

If the coconut tree is duwarf it would be nice to plant that in your own front yard it will add more beauty to your house plus you let some dig it deeper and wider so it can grow nicely and plant it away from the any electrical wiring and not to close to the fence

GM Mj. 8:02 am in NY. Happy Independence Day🇵🇭. Great flag symbolism. Your outfit is very cute and looks comfortable. Happy birthday to Razzle’s mum 🎁🎉🎈🎊🎂❤️🙏🏼. WOW. So someone has to sit and turn the lechon for hours. At least his device had a wheel to turn. Glad everyone enjoyed the food and party. Congrats to Razzle on her promotion to manager. Didn’t realize Razzle lived so close to you. Mums smile 😊🥹when you have her the take a way plate. Papa is a good camera man. Nothing like fresh baked bread 🥖 🍞 with 🧈 & 🧀. Congrats on papa getting the PWD discount. Grateful to your friend that assisted in the process. 🙏🏼. Thanks for sharing. See you tomorrow 🤗

Happy Independence Day 🇵🇭 And happy 70th birthday to Razel's mother. Razel, Grizel and Jeanette look like triplets with the same big smiles. And MJ, look up videos of cooking banana bread(your fave) in a rice cooker since you have no oven. Other bread can be made this way too apparently. And congratulations to Papa for finally getting his PWD card.

@@markeuringer8106Razel and MJ are cousins - others also say that Razel is MJ’s aunt since Razel’s dad and MJ’s paternal grandfather are brothers. They also live close to each other (provincial standard - walking distance) and close friends since they were very young. Razel is a little older than MJ; hence, MJ calls her “Manang” and Razel calls MJ “Inday” - terms of endearment and respect for an older and younger person. In the past vlogs, MJ showed Razel’s GF which has not been shown lately.

You seem to know a lot about Meljean, they say here you’re on vacation and currently in the Philippines, are you going to visit Meljean and see her. You seem to be so invested and always take the time to comment in everything about her.

@@leischaefer1086 started when she hit that more than a million views in her hotel vid in KL. She is smart, pretty, charming and endearing, a Bisdak and her personality is awesome. Plus … a poor government scholar graduated cum laude in college and her verbal English is really good! Her earlier vlogs in travel was superb and I thought, it was professionally done so I started to subscribe. I watched all of her vids and one thing - she has been very consistent in her life story, meaning she’s honest! She seldom responds to queries from subscribers and same questions pop out so that’s why I respond to what I know … that is frustrating as a subscriber. I do understand that she has addressed the same questions before. Lately, her vlogs need more pep and content. Sorry, MJ … not digging your musical scoring now. I only follow 3 people in u-tube so I have all the time. I am a Twitter person and political! No, I do not plan on visiting her. My schedule in the Philippines is hectic even though I visit once or twice a year. We usually passed by near her place in Transcentral Hwy coz my sis loves to buy plants and flowers in that highway all the time and stop by their trendy cafés in the mountains. It’s breathtaking!

Her weight is 40 kg and her eye color is dark brown. Now, don’t start me again on this Filipino eye color. Most Pinoys say that their eye color is black … it is not, unless that person has a strong Indian lineage. Most Pinoys have brown eyes, variation depends on light, medium or dark.

This isnt aimed at you MJ, but is aimed at all schools everywhere, that Ferdinand Magellan didnt discover the Phillipines. People had already discovered and migreated to the area long before the Spanish existed as a people. Just like Columbus did nto discover the Americas. Asians migrated to the Americas long before Spain or Portugal existed. Second, Spain created the Phillipines. I think this is often mistaught in schools too in that peopel act like PH was already a country. Spain, after Ferdinand was dead, came back and conquered part of the PH and declared it the Philippines. So suddenly one day, 100+ ethnic groups, none of which were called Filipino, suddenly because Filipino beacase Spain said so. I often wonder how the PH would have eveolved if Spain had not arrived. Maybe it would be 3 or 4 countries or maybe it would even be a part of Malaysia. Who knows. I dont fault you for being proud to be Filipino. Just want the audience to know the correct history. Third, unfortuantely the American era of the PH is also not taught well in school. The US bought the PH from Spain and then put down the PH independence movement and even conquered more territory to expand the PH to it’s current size. It was smaller when ruled by Spain. Unfortunaely the brutality of the American occupation is not taught in school in the US and it is veiewed as a “beneficient” period (very colonial mindset) of how we freed the PH from Spain (overlooking we then crushed the local govt too) and then ‘brought the PH freedom and liberty’. So as an American I have mixed feelings about how my country treated the PH. But overall I think we helped more than hurt the PH. So, happy independence PH!

True! I'm a Filipina and these facts are so accurate that most Filipinos don't know about the real history of the Philippines during Spanish colonization. At school, we were brainwashed that Spaniards were bad people while Americans were good. Without knowing the real truth, the Philippines was the first country in Asia to build a university called 'The University of Santo Tomas' and introduce their religion to our country. Way back then, the Philippines was a rich country. We had amazing infrastructure like what they have in Spain: beautiful churches, hospitals, schools, bridges, and natural parks. I agree, if Spain hadn't arrived in the Philippines and declared it as the Philippines with 7,000+ islands, it would have been impossible to unite it. We (Filipinos) should be fair and at least grateful that the Spaniards came to our land despite the distance. I'm a little surprised that among all the countries that were colonized by Spain, only Filipinos don't know the language.

@KingRat71
@KingRat71 Ай бұрын
@@Chummy.1313 i think that was intentional by the Spanish. They had conquered the Americas first and they forced everyone to learn spanish. But this mean then that the local tribes could unite to fight back since now they could speak to each other. So i suspect they purposefully didnt teach spanish in the PH so that the people would stay divided. Then also, they really just stayed in the trading ports and major settlements and didnt filter out to the whole countryside as well.
@KingRat71
@KingRat71 Ай бұрын
@@neilgunns8391 well, you had the Iroquois confederacy (if i recall right) in the NY area which likely would have grown. Then the Mississippi mound building culture likely would have continued to develop. So i think most of N America would have grown into regional confederacies of like minded tribes. While not formal countries, I think I could envision N America would have been say 5 or 6 major regional groups controlling most of the continent.

@@milanice5730 that is where I did my meditations way back home. We had a huge tree with a throne-like branch. I sit there “muni-muni” dreaming of my Prince Charming. Well, well … actually the fruit of the manzanita tree is like an aphrodisiac to me. Watch Scarlet always looking for one, jumping, hitting with a stick just to get one. Hahahaha! For those who are not familiar with that tree, go to Transcentral Hwy and stop by Charley’s Cup and they have a big tree there with fruits dropping on the ground. Try them!

Why the Filipinos don't speak spanish?
@deetl
@deetl Ай бұрын
Most of the Filipino root words are Spanish. Generally speaking, Filipinos can understand Spanish words (the real Spanish language and not the conversational one used in Mexico or other Latin American countries). Most of the Filipinos (mestizo/as) a century ago speak Spanish. The Spanish language was a required subject in HS and colleges about 50 years ago or so. Then, a movement to have the Filipino language as the medium of instruction messed up everything in the 80s. Now, we have millennials onward on who are not exposed to it.

There are some areas, like Zambales, where Spanish is spoken. There is also a dialect called chavacano which is Spanish based. It was a way for Mexican workers to communicate with other nationalities that came to help build the railroads.

Stop using "being" when its already in the past. Just say "philippines was colonized for 330 years". Use only "being" when its an on-going action. If its past tense then dont use it.

MJ was correct. You can use “WAS being plus verb/ed” if the action was in PROGRESS in the past and has stopped. 333 years was a work in progress by Spain in colonizing every aspect of the Philippine culture - such a long, long time!
