Actually, he's doing more of an automatic release, which is a much more advanced release technique than the long crest release you've probably been doing in your lessons. Horses don't ACTUALLY need that massive release unless they have a green rider or are very green themselves - well-schooled jumping horses often go better if their rider has more contact over fences.

or maybe he is just keeping contact with the horses mouth like most eventers do. He isn't yanking or pulling on the horses mouth. The horse looks very comfortable with the way he jumps so there isn't a problem with his hands at all. Just because a rider doesn't do a dramatic, long, loopy release like hunters do, doesn't mean they aren't releasing. ;)

Actually it may look like that, but also it could be the horse's conformation. It doesn't seem true but I have a paint horse that acts more like a warmblood than she does a donkey and when coming up to fences it's required that you sit up more because they tend to be a little more on their forehand and you need to set them back a bit. And it's a good thing that he can keep his shoulders back instead of leaning forward and letting the horse run around on his forehand...

Dom is Australian I'm pretty sure :) You're right though, it's not correct to throw your contact away over the fence, you're supposed to give by tilting your hands, not reaching for the horses ears.

hello! im looking into horses for sale for the near future if I move. Would tex be good for some one younger? im 13, but I've been riding for 11 years, and I have lots of experience on the flat. I am looking into starting jumping again- as I has a few nasty events with the sport when I used to jump. I would need a horse that wouldn't rush, and would be patient with a beginner jumper. I completely dislike the rider jumping position he doesnt give his hang on the jump the horse doesnt rush but he have to back up his shoulder infront of each jump he is a very good dressage rider that know how to handle the movement of the horse but he meed to learn how to jump ! If he would give his hand the horse would be even rounder on the obstacle !!! & good training tho but not a lot a people would know how the ride this horse
