I mean, I haven’t seen the movie, but she did find them. Did they at least dedicate 15 minutes or so showing her going through the work of finding MIB? A montage of her actually doing the hacking they mention, going through newspaper clippings and fringe publications, badgering people claiming to be witnesses, steadily putting the pieces together and moving from clear crackpots to more legit sources until it culminates with her looking up at the big doors? If they show her doing the work to track them down, then that would be suitably impressive. If all we get is this though, that is kind of a let down

What I love about the original MIB is that J had to go through exams, training, even having to make a rough decision to join the MIB because it would mean he would have to live as a ghost from his regular life and remove contact from anyone he ever knew, and takes J a sequel to become the best MIB agent, in this movie there is no emotional impact, or protagonist struggle, she discovers, joins, already professional in knowing everything when she barely just joined in the span of a day. (she knew how to use the guns, knew every alien race, knew every piece of technology etc)
@blake1974
@blake1974 4 жыл бұрын
Kinda agree and it's good and all that she was the one looking for the MIB and wants to join in since it's defers to what J did to join the MIB organization but it would rather be nice to show like a new system on recruiting an agent by educating on things to do and training them to be able to use the tech. they have and have it as a montage showing how it's hard to be an agent and improving rather than her knowing everything just like you said, and after she passed that test she is still inexperienced on how to deal with the real thing she is assigned to partnered with an older J which by then he is taking the mantle of K showing the experience he has, talking about the time that he was still partnered up with K and acting like an old man just like K and when they start doing the mission she becomes scared of an alien doubting herself or something and K helping her out and progress and at the end of the movie and shows a confident side of her that she is truly truly meant to be one of the agent on MIB or something around those lines. This is just my thoughts though I haven't watch the movid since some say it's bad others say it's good so kinda don't know what happened on the movie.
@ranaghast
@ranaghast 3 жыл бұрын
yeah, the problem is that there's a timeskip somewhere as they skip a whole 2 weeks of training. If they had slowed down the pace and showed the the new training sequences and made a villain which was more memorable and less cliched, it would have worked better.

The writing in the original movie is underrated. The scene you referenced is a great example. I especially love the little backstory for the MIB that K gives to J. "There were nine of us the first night. Seven agents, one astronomer... and one dumb kid who got lost on the wrong back road." Which sounds like its own movie that we didn't get to see.
@dude12394
@dude12394 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, another example is the suit up scene. in the original you see K deleting J's birth certificate, social # and everything that shows he existed while J had his finger prints removed (showing that they are serious that he leaves no trace) and showing that despite dealing with aliens and things beyond human comprehension, its just another day in the office for them (shown when he just gets a regular locker that you would see at the gym) while here all her life is just 'boop' gone while she gets this mini montage of getting a suit (thats standard but apparently needs a tailor to measure her the moment they can) and then immediately getting issued a gun like it was nothing (in the original it was shown more as a precursor to not thinking everything is at it seems)
@GamerNerd69
@GamerNerd69 3 жыл бұрын
@@dude12394 Have you ever bought a suit? Ive never bought one and NOT been measured by a staff member. Its just a normal part of the normal process. Why would MIB be any different? This is not Star Trek. They can't just replicate one. And wearing a suit that doesnt properly fit would stand out more in a formal setting (IF the need arose) than a properly fitted suit would on the streets (In as much as that would fail to stand out in some settings.)
@SynneDennis
@SynneDennis 3 жыл бұрын
@@dude12394 The difference is perspective. She sought out MIB and wanted to become them, so she sees it in an exciting way and glamorizes it like anyone who gets into whatever they've been wanting. For K and J, they saw it as work. They were recruited, they fit in. That's it.
@ginn1902
@ginn1902 3 жыл бұрын
@Chris Jacocks The thing is, measuring a suit is never an important step, or have any significant meaning like those steps in the 1st movie. When you deliver a story, CUT ALL MEANINGLESS MOMENTS, or your story will be suck, boring, and meaningless like those actions. I can even tell the meaning of the lack of tailoring the suit for new members: the government, as throughoutly as they are described, must already knew about your everything, even your measurements. This script is inferior in every way possible.

She's basically a Mary Sue character: She's automatically talented, professional, and knowledgeable about everything. There's no need for struggle or training because everything she's ever 'struggles' happens off screen or is explained through one-note dialogue. There's no connection. Jay actually had a life, previous ambitions, and a predetermined idea about life. You watch him fall down a rabbit hole, have his world view twisted, and then watch him go through the steps to understand and grow in this new reality. It takes time. That's why her character fails. Because all she ever does is succeed.

She was a damn good decoy, agent L left the door open for Agent M to come through, blessed with the gift of intelligence, the gift of gab (babble).. hence how she’s easily able to save herself from having her memory erased. She good at coding any language to her fitting. Agent M is Agent Mankind (MK). No name, no origin, but somehow knows all, like a “God”.. that’s why our memories are erased after we get immunization shots, the languages we knew to communicate the truth is now what sounds like baby gibberish to us when babies are trying to speak. Nature and all that pertains to nature knows what the “baby” is “babbling” about. But we don’t because our system (Mind) was compromised by an “Agent” (Evil entity, the “L”ucifer” Virus).

Do you know what would have made this scene significantly better and even subverted audience expectations a bit? Immediately erasing her memory and sending her off. Then, our main hero reveals her critical thinking skills by showing she had a contingency plan in case this happened. So, the next day, she shows up outside their doors yet again. She gets turned down repeatedly, each attempt getting more thorough. They erase her hard drives, her backup drives, and get rid of any notes she may have just to make sure she doesn't come back. Yet somehow she manages to get back to their door every single time. If she was really as obsessed about joining as she said she was, she would have devoted her entire life to finding this place and would take every last caution and every last possible opportunity to fool them. Then, once everything's said and done, she'd reveal how she managed to remember each time. Maybe she drew marks on her arms to keep track of how many times she succeeded. Might not work but it's at least a little creative. A character like this could work. Someone whose sole mission and only purpose is to join the mysterious organization that haunts every waking moment of her memories. Instead, we got a paper-thin character with little to no depth.

The way Rip Torn did the monologue for the Men in Black he completely nailed it down to the letter. The man spoke with such passion that made me wish that MIB was real and made me want to be recruited by them but the way Emma Thompson does it, she's so flat, not impactful
@kabobawsome
@kabobawsome Жыл бұрын
Honestly? Seems more like writing and direction is the problem there to me. Emma Thompson is a great actress, and they rewrote the monologue and had a totally different tone to it. Most notably, they cut out the actually entertaining and funny bits. "Deleting fingerprints" and then cutting to a machine clearly just burning them off. This has the "deleting fingerprints" thing on a screen, but it clearly didn't even catch that there was a joke, let alone trying to make it themselves.

Good lord, you can clearly see Tessa Thompson radiate entitlement and arrogance in this entire scene, especially when she's dressing down in the suit and getting her gear. Remember, J was given only the Noisy Cricket to start as the new guy, but Tessa Thompson takes one look at the small pistol she's given and promptly rejects it because she feels entitled to a larger gun (and she actually gets it). This movie lost complete sight of what made the original great.

@larrypoppins6273
@larrypoppins6273 3 жыл бұрын
@Conrad Ferrus they made perfect sense. An mib agent has to look at things beyond what they see at face value. The other applicants just shot any alien that they saw. But j analyzed the situation first, that's how he realized that little Tiffany was an alien in disguise. Why do you think zed said "you're everything we're looking for in government training." J showed qualities of a real mib agent, AND he actually proved his skill when he ran down that cephalopoid on foot. What did this chick do? Avoid getting neuralyzed and basically stumbled upon the mib agency? Yeah, she's not a real mib agent, j is. And there is nothing you can say that can convince me otherwise.
@larrypoppins6273
@larrypoppins6273 3 жыл бұрын
@Conrad Ferrus you clearly have never seen the original movie. J listed the reasons for shooting Tiffany instead of the aliens are that all of the aliens shown in the training course weren't a threat, they were doing basic human stuff, but little Tiffany is a 3 year old with quantum physics books in the middle of the night alone, with none of her parents around; clearly an alien in disguise. And he didn't "run fast" that's a massive oversimplification. He ran down a CEPHALOPOID on foot. Something that isn't easy to do. K brings this up multiple times in the movie. Like I said before, an mib agent has to look at things beyond what they see at face value. The only thing those soldiers Know is to shoot things, but that isn't gonna cut it in the men in Black. Their job isn't to kill every alien they see; it's to detain any alien threat. The aliens in the training course weren't threatening anyone, they were just chilling at night where there were no humans around. But, little Tiffany was holding QUANTITY PHYSICS books. What 6 year old that you've seen has any quantum physics books? She isn't a little girl, she's an alien disguised as a little girl. So I reccomend you actually see the movie before you start spouting bullshit.
@larrypoppins6273
@larrypoppins6273 3 жыл бұрын
@Conrad Ferrus all that may be true, but it was just a simulation, the point of it is to demonstrate that an mib agent has to look beyond what they actually see, read the situation before they just go blasting Willy nilly. You shouldn't be applying this must logic to it, what are you, a Vulcan? It's just a test. It wasn't an actual event. Good God, you smart people frustrate the hell out of me! Just try to throw logic out the window band look at it from J's perspective. All the other applicants only Know to shoot, and that may help on the battlefield, but not on mib. An mib agent's job is to detain any alien threat, Not shoot every alien they see. It'd be like if after I saw the Mexican drug cartels, I go and shoot every Mexican I see. No, not all aliens are mean and Vicious, some just want to live lives on earth. That's the lesson every mib agent has to learn. J shooting little Tiffany demonstrates that. Everyone else just saw aliens, but j looked closer, analyzed the situation. That's why he was recruited in the first place. look, it's about 1:00 AM right now, we're done talking. Goodbye.

J proved he was a worthy candidate for MIB because while he is a bit cocky and slow on the uptake, he was also determined, intuitive, payed attention to details- sometimes a bit too much like in MIB 2's pizza parlor scene, but most of all, was capable of treating aliens like people, and not as monsters with a black and white viewpoint. M just assumes because she found MIB after 20 years of spying and applying to random government jobs with little experience, simply because she wasn't neuralized and has no life to leave behind, that she deserves a job at MIB. Talk about entitlement.

Whoever wrote this garbage of a film never saw the 3 MIB films. What I love about the original MIB is that J had to go through exams, training, even having to make a tough decision to join the MIB because it would mean he would have to live as a ghost from his regular life and remove contact with anyone he ever knew, and takes J a sequel to become the best MIB agent, in this movie, there is no emotional impact or protagonist struggle, she discovers, joins, already professional in knowing everything when she barely just joined in the span of a day, just plain dumb 😂(she knew how to use the guns, knew every alien race, knew every piece of technology etc)
