A preppy style guide for men's fashion! In this video I run through the basics of preppy dressing for men and some wardrobe staples to build a preppy wardrobe from. Of course I had to include some iconic pieces like the navy blazer, nantucket reds and more.
There are numerous subcultures that come under the umbrella of classic dressing for men, including preppy style, Ivy League style and trad Style. I am sure there are many more nuances in these subcultures than I discussed in this video, but this is meant to be a basic overview and introduction to the style.

Very informative and fun video. Agree, I do adore a navy blazer or two. Specially a double breasted blazer with gold or pearl buttons. A pocket square with it can go a long way as well.

So basically, I discovered preppy style in 2015, but I have worn it since I was a child, led by my father who has always worn preppy brands like Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers and other Italian luxurious brand like Tod's, Trussardi and Gucci. By the way I love this style and I really like girls who wear like that, they are really awesome and fine!

Yes show us well dressed men 😍 love preppy style for men especially casual preppy is so much nicer as the modern sweater comfy style. Escpeially middle aged men profit a lot from a beautiful poloshirt instead of the normal t-shirt. While colours are fun I am always surprised how extrem colourful preppy can be in the US even for men. For me some examples are a bitt too much. I am surprised you like pink and green so much. For me pink and blue is the ultimate colour combination 💖 Thank you for listining the reddit groups and insta accounts.

I think I like the pink and green so much because it is not a combo we see often anymore! I've noticed a lot of people don't wear much colour full stop... sometimes I look around on the street and it is a sea of black and grey clothing 😭 But that is just my personal preference lol 💕✨

I love the preppy style. But I mix it with a little urban street. No boat shoes, only sliders or white on white Adidas, and a designer sling bag.

The blazer with some sort of pin or embroidery is essential. If you really want to push it, wear a reverso.

Preppy style is great for summer! I think sometimes there's an expectation to find one style or aesthetic and only ever dress in that way, which certainly doesn't have to be the case. That's awesome that you change your style up for different seasons 😄

@@FabSakker definitely, growing up and in my early 20s I had such anxiety about fitting to certain styles but now I manage to figure out a style where most things can mix / match but I can have different styles. My summer wardrobe is 90% preppy though

To be quite frank, I am not a fan of bow ties and never will be. I think its a very feminine look, I'd bet you if you wore it in my city people would take the piss out of you. I think if you're in Central London you could get away with the look or if you're in a really posh area, but again we do not choose where we are born. I think it's a step closer to looking very costuemy; likewise with hats. Knitted ties are very preppy and fun, grenadine ties are perfect for formal outfits and casual outfits. Bright cotton chinos again are very good too and have the added benefit of not having to be dry cleaned. I think the preppy look is the most modern take on classic style since it pretty much encourages smart but casual outfits and allows for creative looks. Trad style is very similar but a bit stuffy for the weekend look, but again it depends on your colours and environment and weather. I love Ralph Lauren as a brand, but god their items can be so expensive. I did get myself one of their Fair Isle vest sweaters which is super preppy and cool looking. Fair Isle sweaters are a quintessential preppy item, they can have lots of colours giving you the ability to co-ordinate it with the rest of your outfit. You can layer it with a jacket, long sleeve shirt and tie; don't forget the trousers too. Another brand that's great is called John Smedley (for the preppy look), they do polo shirts and sweaters. They do outlet sales and have a lot of preppy colours and neutral tones sometimes. I got myself this sweater of them for £88 which I love: www.johnsmedleyoutlet.com/mens/mens-pullovers/allwood-in-soft-fawn-wool-roll-neck-pullover For sweaters, only pick V-necks or Turtlenecks. The crew neck sweater is not versatile and can't be layered really.

Trousers are all too tight. Jackets too short. All too shiny and new. This style needs to be inherited passed down. It is something you are born into. You can't buy it
